I'm sure if you calmly explain how important it is to await confirmation about the resolution that next-gen games are running at, she'll understand. Unless of course she's a bad wife. If so, maybe consider that you had a good run, and that divorce is nothing to be ashamed of in this day and age.

fucking lol.....

But the thing is if this is going to happen on this game ( and lets be honest, COD: G is probably the least next gen looking game AND a massive part of the XBOX brand) what does that say of other titles in the future...
If there was one third party title that was going to be similar despite the PS 4's power advantage, I thought it would be COD. Now, all bets are off. Good news for those picking up a PS4, now not having to worry about their ports not being handicapped. Huge news if true.

Hey, hey, hey, I take offense at being called a "dork".

In all seriousness, the reason I brought up the outside world is because I find this who thing rather jading. I wonder, how many among gaffers, would have noticed any difference between upscaled and native 1080p without being foretold of this discrepancy, or w/o side by analysis on DF (which will happen) or pixel peeping?

:)

A lot of people would. Why do we have to start questioning HD when Microsoft's console can't do it? *possibly* Bluray is out, HD content is out, people enjoy HD material. And for gaming nerds, well its not as if PC's are running Crysis on MAX at 320i because 'well resolution is hard to see anyway!" Its a lame excuse. Its 2013, we are heading into a new generation of gaming. And other devices can run the engine at 1080p. (in the world the rumor is true). Casual's opinions stop at the door when I type in neogaf.com, ya know? Sure, people can have a myriad of responses to this, and maybe, just maybe, someone didn't notice. It still doesn't change the fact of this possible rumor!(lol) And what it means for the hardware specifically, since its already been thrown under the bus as being hampered in the power department.

Its not just resolution, and resolution alone, its the narrative. If 1080p doesn't matter, and 900p/720p is what casuals were dying for, Sony and MS.. er.. Sony wouldn't bother trying to hit the Entertainment Standards of Film/PCgaming/etc. Hell, no one would invest in it. Its just such a strange knee-jerk reaction to do, condemning others for possibly not even noticing the gimp. I kinda blame the guy that brought the gimp.

Has anyone brought up in this thread, scott Lowe from IGN who tweeted about the video they put up today and all this week is running on PS4 1080p?

Just asking as this thread is moving to fast for me to catch up. It's like it's the Neogaf Megaton Train....choo choo...ALL ABOARD MELTDOWN CENTRAL!!!

That game at only 720p? wow, i find that hard to believe. I guess it could happen given what must be a rushed launch game, the spec gap in the systems and IW isn't what they used to be but still. Of all the games to be 720 i wouldn't think its the game that hardly looks next-gen

Ryse = 900p ( aka 1600x900 )
Battlefield = 720p
Titanfall = can't guarantee 1080p
Killer Instinct = 720p
Assassins Creed = ??? ( is 480p acceptable? )
Call of Duty = possibly 720p
Dead Rising 3 = " variable " ( between what and what though? 900 and 720? )

Playstation 4

The Order: 1886 = 1920×800
KillZone: Shadow Fall = 1920×1080 (MP=60fps, SP=30fps)
Infamous: Second Son = 1920×1080
DriveClub = 1920×1080 (Targeting 60fps)
Resogun = 1920×1080 (60fps)
Knack = 1920×1080
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag = 1920×1080
Thief = 1920×1080
Blacklight: Retribution = 1920×1080
Warframe = 1920×1080
Call of Duty: GHOSTS = 1920×1080
Flower = 1920×1080 (60fps)
FIFA = 1920×1080
DC: Universe Online = 1920×1080 (60fps)

Dat PS4

Battlefield 4 up in the air for PS4 but something tells me 1080p will be a go.

Here's a 1080p vs 720p upscaled to 1080p example using COD:BO2 on PC:

KGiODTF.gif

HUD elements should maintain their crispness however since they're rendered at 1080p on top of the game.
That is actually a really good comparison. Probably the best representation of the actual difference I have seen.

if this is how next gen goes down, casual gamers won't care about the difference between 720p and 1080p and PS4's graphical advantage will only apply to 1st party or good 3rd party devs. Naught Dawg gotta come up big.

I agree with you here, but I think the reason this is blowing up is that it's indicative of future problems as we get deeper into next gen. If we're seeing these problems creep up at launch, for a game that no one really expects to be a technological wonder, what's going to happen a year or two down the line when these systems really have their limits tested?

We saw this at the tail of this generation. Alot of games on the 360 just couldn't keep up and internally a good number of studios started switching to PS3 as their lead platform. If this rumor holds true, and its indicative of a more measurable power discrepancy between the two platforms, the Xbox One could find itself running out steam really quickly.

It will still have some great looking games, mainly on the exclusive side. It just sucks to see them trying to justify the $500 price because they had to design the system around Kinect. Many multiplats are going to be inferior as a result and that is just plain unfortunate.

Stop being ridiculous. All indications so far point to the PS4 being pretty much exactly this much more powerful: In fact, many predicted this exact resolution split months ago.

Killer Instinct is not a graphical powerhouse by any means, them only achieving 720p60 on that game should worry you as well.

I'm not doubting that a significant power difference is there. My point is just that I don't think it's quite to this degree.

I mean, it's probably general consensus that Ghosts is the worst looking game on next gen platforms right? As far as I'm aware it's not doing anything overly impressive in any regard. It's a very, very average looking game. That's the reason why I have a hard time believing this rumor. Especially when you consider there are other games out there that look much more graphically impressive and are being presented at a higher resolution.

If this is true though, there's no doubt Microsoft is in for a PR nightmare regardless of whether it's the hardware itself or some kind of disconnection between Microsoft and Infinity Ward in terms of proper product support. I'm just very much skeptical at this point.

As much as this is true, the other games we're getting a basis from there are all XB1 exclusives.

For multiplatform games it may set another precedent, as I said previously NFS Rivals was noticably absent recently when the game was shown off on PC/PS4 and DICE refuse to comment on resolutions for BF4 on any of the next gen systems.

At this point I'd say what Forza 5 is there showcase game graphically then? It's the only one I can think of we know is 1080p60

That's a fair point. I suppose it's a time will tell type of thing. First party games will generally look and run better, that's a given. I just think if some of the development teams on these games are able to churn out fantastic looking games at 720p/60 FPS, 900p or, in come cases, 1080p and/or 60 FPS I just have a hard time believing it's incapable of handling a mediocre looking game like Ghosts.

I mean, it's quite possible that we may see this kind of resolution gaps between Xbox One and PS4. As more news keeps coming out I'm generally coming to expect it as we get farther into these consoles life cycles and developers are tapping into all the power that these consoles are capable of. If this was a case of a game like BF4 running at 1080p on PS4 and 720p on Xbox One then I wouldn't have much trouble believing that. But Ghosts? I just don't know. Just seems too implausible to me.

I keep asking this, because I genuinely don't know, but isn't Ryse 30 fps vs COD's 60? And Killer Instinct is doing what exactly that makes you think it's more impressive at 720p compared to COD? I haven't seen much footage of the game, but what I did see was a 1 vs 1 fighter with lots of particle effects.

Have they shown off something more impressive? COD is doing way more players at once in larger spaces that need to be visible from just about any perspective, rather than a fixed camera stage like KI has which just needs to be seen from essentially one.

I'm not sure on Ryse's FPS but I would assume 30, yes. I just making the point that Ryse's visuals blow Ghosts out of the water which makes me skeptical that the Xbox One can't handle Ghosts at 1080p. But then again, I'm not particularly well read in terms of hardware specs and what these consoles are doing under the hood. Just, from the outside looking in, I have a hard time believing that Infinity Ward has truly hit a brick wall with Ghosts on the hardware.

And yes, your point on Killer Instinct is well taken. I was just pointing out that the game is incredible looking and, really, Double Helix is doing some pretty awesome things with it. But the point remains, fighting games are generally less hardware taxing. I still just get the impression though that KI is doing so much more in terms of graphics and effects than Ghosts is. If Double Helix can get their game running great at 720p with the kind of visual fidelity they have then I just have a hard time believing that Infinity Ward is incapable of doing more with a worse looking game.

As I said though, I'm not exactly a hardware guru and will never claim to be. So in truth I could be dead wrong when comparing those two games. Regardless, I'm still skeptical about this rumor. There's no doubt the Xbox One is lagging behind the PS4 in terms of hardware but to this degree just seems unfathomable.

When do the meltdowns start? And yeah, it's been mentioned. But really, I need this to wrap up so I can get on with my night.

If titanfall is at or close to 1080p, shouldnt we be questioning IWs ability here?? If Respawn can make the same base engine run more shit better...this cant all be on the xb1? eh?

Gets me real excited to pay 100 dollars more for the inferior product.

Anyone wanna place bets on the next bad Xbox One news/rumor. My bet is on that the OS won't be ready at launch and will have to updated shortly after.
