RUMOUR: Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts is 720p, PS4 version is 1080p?

if true. its sad that ceilings are hit and things are scaled back already at this point.

ps360 being so damn old held back gaming imo lasting so damn long. and now we might not even get to go much further because multiplats will have to scale.

Uhm, so it wasn't confirmed to be 1080p on PS4 except for this IGN tweet? Oh lord, I have a feeling it won't be 1080p either then...

It looks nothing like 1080p. Of course it could be only the player, but it really looks ugly in the gameplay-video.

Also, why the fuck not, Titanfall has been rumored to be targeting 720p on the xbox one as well. I'm sure that probably came up in this thread already by someone... but, yeah, that rumor seems more solid than this CoD one.

Ok this is bigger news than CoD lol

Unless you look at that as the answer.

If it was true 1080p, why would he not say so?

What if both the PS4 and XBox One run the game at 720p but he isn't allowed to comment on the PS4 or even knows what resolution it's running on? That would mean if he does confirm it the forums will explode even more than they are now.

We're going to find out one way or another and what impact will there actually be in preorders one way or another?

Ok.

Well, fuck being coy, obviously this is the rumor I heard. It's really thin, guys. Really thin. I want two sources on anything I post here or talk about on my podcast but this I really, really wanted two sources on. And there's a few wrinkles to it as well which are interesting (if they are true). I just cannot say whether it's true or not and this is obviously a huge fucking deal. Sales are at stake. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if MS put a goddamn hit out on me.

Anyway, this is the rumor. And it's thin. It's fucking thin. To be completely honest I don't believe it. I mean... it's just weird. Anyway - supposedly Activision is doing a controlled environment review process that only huge ass games can get away with. What I heard was you got to chose a version.... either xbox one or PS4 and you didn't get to see the other one. You then go in and play it at their setup for a certain number of hours and that's it. Someone who saw the Xbox one version claims it's 720p.

Did this person count pixels? Is this known info they are telling people? Is it upscaled? I don't know the answers to any of these questions. It doesn't even make sense to me... CoD is a pretty shitty looking game, why in the hell could it not run at 1080p? I feel like if they took the time they could get the 360 version at 1080p if they wanted to... the engine is older than me. But, that's what was said.

It's impossible to get a second source because everyone is, obviously, under NDA. No one wants to get blacklisted by Activision.

And now for my opinion....

Driveclub being delayed I was pretty damn certain on. It wasn't a flimsy rumor like this. But the one thing that I'm noticing here is that the non-responses are the same. I was nervous about the driveclub thing because I was out here by myself with some random ass site I never heard of (kudos to them for being right though) and if the info ended up being wrong I was going to look like a huge asshole. Each non-answer given made me feel better about being right.

If the game is running at 1080p there's no reason to give non-answers. That's not info you want to hide. So looking at it from this angle - the rumor exists and non answers are given - I feel like that gives credence to the rumor.

But... but... but...! I've been right about a lot of shit. I should have never teased this because this rumor is fucking flimsy. More flimsy than PS4 in October which the entire internet believed. I'm not saying it's true. I expect 900p to be honest. That's a guess. I don't know. I do know there is a lot of chatter about the xbox struggling to hit 1080p.

Also, why the fuck not, Titanfall has been rumored to be targeting 720p on the xbox one as well. I'm sure that probably came up in this thread already by someone... but, yeah, that rumor seems more solid than this CoD one.

Hm. Gonna be interesting to see how this turns out.

And that makes me, in your eyes, silly, uninformed, and a worshipper of Microsoft? Come on now. Hear me now, believe me later, the PS4 is a very attractive piece of hardware. I do not dispute that at all. I very may well get one somewhere down the road. I once owned a PS2 and played Killzone on it and loved it. I've been watching the franchise ever since and I saw the new K:SF campaign trailer today and got serious goosebumps from it. I'd love to play K:SF but that means that I would have to get a PS4 which at the moment, in the here and now, I have no desire to do that. I can't make myself want something that I don't want right now, you know what I mean?

Well, your money...your life. enjoy your purchase.

What story?

is it because this is squads mode/multiplayer that it doesn't look so good (on IGN)? campaign footage they've shown before was alright. nothing mind-blowing but good enough still.

it's like someone is offering you a new BMW for $400 and you ignore him and go to toyota dealer to buy a Corolla for $500

While it's your opinion and I respect that....but it seems somewhat silly and uninformed enough...seems like you worship MS to the point of accepting anything they throw at you..it's OK.
If the guy really loves Halo, what's the problem? At least he's basing his decision on games, and maybe that's what he plays with his friends.

Perfectly understandable.

And about the only legit reason to chose a XBox One, imo

Intersting, especially this part:

"Anyway - supposedly Activision is doing a controlled environment review process that only huge ass games can get away with. What I heard was you got to chose a version.... either xbox one or PS4 and you didn't get to see the other one. "

If that's true than there has to be a notable difference between the two version because it wouldn't make sense if this wasn't the case.

Oh boy, "judge for yourself" is such a terrible giveaway. Boy if he's backing away from an actual answer then it's damage control time. 720p is looking more and more plausible.

I'm of the opinion that the lack of denial is more telling than any other facet to this rumor, similar to how the Evolution Studio guy dodged questions on Twitter.

Not necessarily. Many consumers won't care. However, even casuals are aware of the Xbone's poor unveiling and some of the issues it has done 180s on. This will only feed into that existing narrative. That's why it might gain a little traction.

While it definitely will hurt Xbox One's track record (if this all turns out true). I'm guessing the average consumer probably cares more for game breaking glitches, performance, and lag rather then if it'll look better.

My buddy is the definition of casual. His Xbox360 is currently his "FIFA-Box". He basically talks to me for all his gaming information. The other day he came up to me mentioning how you couldn't sell your used games on the Xbone.

Casuals may not totally listen but they DO latch on to negative press which colours the narrative. The howling derision of the hardcore audience is not going to help the Xbone at all in terms of how that effects casual perception. Like it or not, at the start of a traditional console generation the hardcore leads the way. I think the original Wii was the only exception to this rule.

That's awesome then. Who cares what anyone else thinks. It's your money man. If you get enjoyment out of what you buy that's all that matters. For me personally, first party titles and exclusives aren't released enough for me to decide a system based on that. I go where third party titles perform the best. I happen to love both systems first party titles though, so there is that.

I imagine if someone hates Sony's first party titles it would be a different perspective. Anyways, much respect on your choice.

Thank you, Azula.
Never imagined myself writing that down before. I still think your crazy and evil! lol

It's a rumor but this would be the 3rd time I would have to corroborate the same. This info is something I have heard for a few months. Of course it could change but I'm not sure. That person who told me can come out and post since he's a gaffer.

Is this rumor still going strong? This thread has been at the top of GAF for a very long time now, I'm pretty sure Major Nelson would have come in here and denied this way long ago if it were false.

Hell I'm still expecting him to come in here and run damage control. Poor guy.

Na, most people are home from work now.

Anyways, after watching the footage from today for Ghosts on the PS4, I'm starting to wonder if it's upscaled to 1080p. I mean, it's utter shit. Maybe it's just IGN's player, or maybe Infinity Ward doesn't understand if you go 1080p you need the textures there to make it look good. This shit is crazy.

Funny that 99% of the people discussing this werent going to buy it anyway
I haven't posted in this thread until now, and you're right - I'm probably not going to buy Ghosts either way, but for me it's the implication of it all that has me taking notice. This could mean the start of a trend that might carry through the generation, so of course this has my attention.
