RUMOUR: Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts is 720p, PS4 version is 1080p?

Actually the math is solid.

It makes perfect sense...especially when combining things like how efficient the memory is with how much more powerful the GPU is. Previous benches based on the specs pretty much showed this.

Now add the extra resources taken for the multiple OS and Kinect...

Yup. Nobody would believe techgaf

Is there more to this story or is there really an 85 page thread because the PS4 version has a higher resolution?

I'm not thread whining, genuinely curious if there is more to this than what meets the eye.

Albert showed up and reassured us that Ghosts looks fantastic on his XB1. That's about it, though.

I just tried to talk to the xbox one reddit but the mods shut me down.

I think.

I don't know, the post is still there but I can't find it anywhere on the actual reddit. Maybe removed posts go the abyss?
From my short time at Reddit, mods seem to do whatever the fuck they feel like over there with pretty much no rhyme or reason. Perhaps they bash their keyboards until they feel like they've done enough for the day.

It's not surprising at all that your post was taken down.

Yikes, This thread got a bit too disturbing.

Yes, because these are the sort of mature decisions that are production and encourage open debate and conversation.

Not sure what's being said here, that Sony won't have the kind of exclusive support that Microsoft has?

no... if PS4 has clearly better looking games, like 720p vs 1080p suggests, then all big games will be big wins for PS4. Exclusives will be just icing on the cake.

However that doesnt mean that 360 and XB1 games will look the same just because of 720p resolution. COD on XB1 should look significantly better than 360 version.

i almost don't want to believe this rumor...im only getting a PS4 at launch, so it benefits me if multiplat titles are better on the PS4 (so im hoping that part is true so i dont have to buy an Xbone before a price drop)....but this one is a little much to swallow...

assuming all things are equal (textures, AA, shadows, yadda, yadda, yadda) the idea that one of these consoles will hit 1080/60 while the other is 720/60 is crazy....not sure i even have words for it...

I'm baffled. CoD Ghosts will run at 720p and 60fps on Xbox 360. So what exactly is going on if XB1 can also only run a game developed primarily for last-gen consoles at the exact same resolution and framerate?

1. the PS360 version will NOT be native 720p...just like all of the previous CoD games this generation

2. EVERYTHING about the visuals is going to be better (textures, particles, animations, shadows, you name it)

so its not like its simply taking the same game as the PS360 versions and running it on the new hardware...there will be significant improvements in ALL areas from the current gen versions...

that is where you could run into similar resolutions...

900p has 56% more pixel than 720p. The PS4 has 56% more raw programmable GPU power for games (1,84TF vs 1,18TF). As long as we assume a linear correlation between those two figures, a 720p/900p difference would be the best guess. However, that math is "naive" because it doesn't factor in other differences (e.g. PS4's 100% more ROPs, memory architecture, etc.).

Assuming that the difference is indeed 1080p/720p, it is hard to pin-point the possible bottleneck from the outside. It could be the raw processing power, but it could also be the eSRAMs size limitation, or simply the combination of a lack of time and a more complicated and possibly still less mature architecture.

Mortimer, do you know the resolution of the PS4's CoD:Ghosts version? It would help to put the xb1 situation in perspective.

I know we have that ign's guy twit, but:

1- he is the PS4 dev kit guy;
2- activision always advertises the upscaled resolution as being the true resolution of the game.

Who does remember the Wii U's COD:BOps2 situation?

link: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/368276/black-ops-2-on-wii-u-is-full-hd-60fps-triple-a-graphics/

A lot of people here thought the Wii U wasn't so underpowered because of declarations like these. I didn't forget this because I was in this situation.

Wait, is this still a rumour, or is it confirmed?

Or is it one of those rumours that has a 99% likelihood of being confirmed?

CBoat, Famousmortimer, other sources, no denial so far from MS, and Bish has gone into hiding ... I'd say it's pretty much confirmed.

I guess Major Nelson was right. The truth DID come out in the end.

Holy shit if true.

Indeed. Not the fact that Cod: Ghosts is the specific title in question but that this may be an example of what is to come for other software published on the XOne.

As for the PS4 version, I've read many comments today stating that it also does not look so great either. Any particular obvious reason that this specific game is looking so-so on next gen hardware?

Yeah, it appears the mods deleted your post. In Reddit when your post is deleted, it will only be deleted from the listing of new/active posts so you can't find the post unless you have the direct link.

The math is there... If you don't understand the math I can see where you'd be confused.

The other factor is just how much of the resources are being used for the Kinect and multiple Operating Systems.

All Microsoft fans were hoping that they'd focus on the weaker system...this isn't the current console generation with two totally different architectures. This is closer to two different PC's. Easy to port to the more powerful one and easy to upgrade without optimizing.

Well damn, that's pretty damn terrible for MS and the X1. I imagine this is the reason they've decided to demo the PS4 version? Put their best foot forward so to speak?

I expect this will be a running theme for the entire generation as it was with the 360 for this generation. Still boggles the mind that MS have screwed themselves as much as they have all because of Kinect and their 3 OS set up. (which, admittedly, is pretty cool in action)

Will be very interesting to see what Quantum Break looks like when it's finally re-revealed on X1 hardware.

Because the real talent from IW is off making Titanfall right now? (not to say IW doesn't have plenty of great talent, just that the big named dudes leading the way are gone.)

I think the immature tools are making it very difficult for developers to utilise the eSRAM. MS should have been on this.

Are you kidding me? It won't even be 720p let alone above it.

Black Ops 2 ran slower on Wii U than any other version as well. The framerate was awful at times.

Treyarch has some more time to come to grips with the hardware, I suspect the WiiU will perform better this time around than the previous version.

720p?… I’m sorry but I don’t want 720p – that’s not my business – I don’t want it to run at upscaled resolutions. I should like to see joy for everyone if possible, Xbox Fan, PS4 Fan, Nintendo or Ouya fan. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that.
We all want to live by each other’s happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this forum there is room for everyone and the industry is rich and can provide for everyone.

The way of life can be free to play and beautiful.

But we have lost the way.

Greed has poisoned men’s souls – has barricaded the Netflix with Gold; has goose-stepped us into misery and frustration.

Gamers – don’t give yourselves to PR men, men who despise you and enslave you – who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel, who drill you, lie to you, treat you as accounts, as bags of money.

Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men, machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts. You are not machines. You are not bags of money. You are Gamers.

I understand this thread has differing opinions but this post is pretty insane. This is one of of the most hilarious posts I have read. I nearly lost it with that last part. Thanks for the entertainment.

Never again will I make the mistake of being despised and enslaved by machine men with machine minds and machine hearts.

edit: Did not realize this was a Chaplin quote :)

My guess is that MS wanted to avoid this leak at all costs before launch. As famousmortimer said, it is pretty damaging. There is enough time for this news to spread now.

I want to know who the first major site is to report this is. Fear of an Activision or Microsoft blacklist is pretty goddamn huge.

We'll just have to wait and see but that seems rather optimistic. It should hopefully operate more smoothly than Black Ops 2 but will it better smoother than 360? That I don't expect.

The PC recommended specs were just ridiculous. And no not for 4K, just standard PC resolutions. I think they recommend a GTX 780 which is insane

Ahh, did not know that was the case in regards to the dev teams being assigned to Titalfall.
Also, Glam. That seems quite a plausible explanation in regards to resource distribution. Larger install base on current gen consoles, yet do not want to miss out on next gen train.

How many platforms is this game releasing on anyway?
