Let's wait until the new Wii U bundles are out before calling doom. This is always how it goes when a redesign, price cut etc. is imminent.

Looks like MH4 stock is finally able to keep pace with buyers. How does the pokemon drop compare historically?

All data from Famitsu:

Pokemon Black / White - 772,172
Pokemon X / Y - 591,025
Pokemon HeartGold / SoulSilver - 492,385
Pokemon Ruby / Sapphire - 471,538
Pokemon Diamond / Pearl - 433,793
Pokemon Black 2 / White 2 - 416,850
Pokemon Platinum - 319,052
Pokemon FireRed / LeafGreen - 286,626
Pokemon Emerald - 160,155

The problem with chalking up these terrible sales just to the announcement of new SKUs and pricing, is that the systems were already in decline/selling terribly prior to said announcements.

The Vita's rapid descent strikes as indicative of an underlying low baseline.

I stand corrected on WiiU then, one extra person just couldn't have bought a U smh. Other hardware numbers are par the course but Vita can probably stay above 15k if they manage to accrue some momentum with consistent releases. As I said last week, there is already a guaranteed bump with God Eater 2 down the pipeline but with some momentum they can increase numbers on for both Vita and GE2 and then tail that momentum into the Final Fantasy X HD games.

As far as WiiU goes, I don't think the bundles will see any significant spike or at least lasting effect. Their heavy hitter games hasn't been released yet so I don't want to speak too soon but it'd have to be one hell of a comeback at this juncture for them to turn the tide. Speaking as of now those sales are pathetic.

EDIT:
Saw the Vita's release schedule posted, so yeah Vita has a chance to do some relatively respectable numbers going forward into the 4th quarter.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
I'm sure a lot of the console buying Japanese public are pretty clued up on the WiiU bundles, but not to the point it doesn't feel like people are over-estimating what kind of possible effect theyre going to have and hand waving away just truly apocalyptic sales because "who would buy one now!".

MH4 has most likely already sold over 3.5 million if you count digital sales.

That would be a pretty high digital number compared to what it started with but I guess we haven't got any data through the last few weeks of shortages right?

Those bundles are also not cheap compared to some of the other gaming options out there even if they are a good deal.

Why are people using 591k in Pokemon second week comparisons, when the number in the op is 473.151? I feel like I'm missing something obvious...

Edit: D'oh. That's a big discrepancy though. *shrug*

Bomba of the week deservedly goes to FIFA 14 Vita. That's what you get if you just reskin last year's game.

2494 units sold according to Famitsu, 20-40% sellthrough.

Some people prefer using Famitsu.

On Famitsu (which includes Download Card sales), Pokemon's second week is 591K.

I wonder how big part eShop purchases play. Especially when comparing X/Y sales to PS2/DS games when there was no digital option available.

Actually vita is selling worse than it did in march the week after the price drop.

As I said, it is actually better than I expected. Me (and a few others in the last thread) didn't expected more than 20k, especially considering it had no notable releases whatsoever.

I doubt, but it's definitely over 3 million.

Famitsu: 2,915,273 (retail + cards)
Media Create: 100,000 (launch week directly off the eShop)

Seems crazy to think in the end it actually has a shot at beating MHP3rd

Well we'll know when we see the shipment data. Seems weird to think Nintendo only just started the whole digital full game thing last year.

The gap between Famitsu and Media Create for Pokemon is too big (sales for download card are only 55k first week according to Media Create).

Famitsu is tracking too high or Media Create is tracking too low, maybe both.

Ah, damn. For some reason I thought the Famitsu ltd was 3.2 million. Guess the total now is just shy of 3.5 million then if you include digital sales.

Does anyone have launch aligned YTD sales for nintendo/sony/sega home consoles?
I'm kind of trying to see what did worse than WiiU because it really looks like it's really cratering at this point.

I wont be worried for the Wii U until 3D World and the bundles come. I am worried about the Vita, though, unless the Vita TV is bigger than I think it will be.
Considering the Galaxies didn't have a huge impact on Wii sales (+30-40% hw sales on release week), that seems very optimistic.

I don't think Vita is in great shape but what does that tell about a console that takes 5 weeks to sell what Vita sold this week?

Well the Wii U will see a spike soon with the bundles, just like the Vita. And just like the Vita, drop down again (and again and again)

Nintendo has absolutely nothing to release in its place. The system still has 3 years left regardless of sales.

Vita numbers are not a good sign--I was expecting a much better hold.

An anime comes with a fanbase that's video-game ready. The same people who watch Dragon Ball or One Piece or Pokemon already want to play games based on them. It's a built-in audience of geeks (sorry for the way it sounds, but it's true). There's a whole well-established universe, art-style, story, memorable protagonists and antagonists, a tone etc. that people will want to follow.

There's (was?) no Tousouchuu fanbase. It's a fun TV game, but it has no universe, no mythology, no storyline, no art-style. People who watch it aren't "geeks" who are likely to buy a Tousouchuu game based on name alone, just like people who watch MasterChef probably aren't a big video game audience that just can't wait to play a video game version of some cooking show they watch for entertainment at the end of a long day of work. People aren't passionate about it the way people are passionate about Dragon Ball or any other popular anime series.

The game is something completely new, as Kotaku wrote, "perhaps the most apt description is to call it a mix between Pac-Man and Mario Kart." I consider it a new video game IP because it came out of nowhere with no mythology to back it up and surprisingly created something new and fun. It does bear a title that already exists, and there are guys in black suits wearing sunglasses in both the TV show and the game, but that's about as far as it goes. It was a completely unproven "IP" that came with no expectations before the 3DS game.
I know next to nothing about Tousouchuu's fanbase and such, so i cant really say much about that. If the game is very different compared to what we see in the TV show, maybe it would have a hard time selling on the name alone indeed. In general, that probably applies more or less to other franchises too (i see for example that some Dragonball games sells more than others, i have no idea why, but i would guess it has something to do with the gameplay in the different games). But i see your reasoning, thanks for the answer =)

Oh, in case anyone's interested, earnings release dates for Japanese publishers (in which I've included the Japanese platform holders).
Code:
Sony 31-Oct
Nintendo	31-Oct
Capcom 1-Nov
Sega Sammy	5-Nov
Namco Bandai	6-Nov
Square Enix	6-Nov
Konami 7-Nov

Might get some sales (shipment) data. Might even get a Vita LTD (lol).

Should get some nice info from Nintendo's investor briefing.

In significant part, it appears that Capcom has successfully migrated their Monster Hunter fanbase to the Nintendo platform. Still some ways to go, but it's mostly there now. This has worked out for them: very high sales with lower production costs than a Vita/PS4 version would require. This is something I don't think could be done as effectively in the West; I believe there would be significant sales repercussions for any longstanding franchise that chooses to back down from the tech arms race.

After MH and Pokemon on the same year, I'm not sure 2014 will be better for the 3DS than this year.

Probably not, also because of gamer as luigi, mario rpg, friend collection and dragon quest 7. Next year should have smash, dq monster, probably pokemon z, and few surpriser as the new capcom game. Plus the 2ds, at a lower price.

Solid, but not as stellar as 2013

Does anyone have launch aligned YTD sales for nintendo/sony/sega home consoles?
I'm kind of trying to see what did worse than WiiU because it really looks like it's really cratering at this point.

Considering the Galaxies didn't have a huge impact on Wii sales (+30-40% hw sales on release week), that seems very optimistic.

I don't think Vita is in great shape but what does that tell about a console that takes 5 weeks to sell what Vita sold this week?

3D Land had a massive impact on the 3DS, so I am more optimistic because of that. It'll certainly have a big impact for a couple of weeks. It's just a matter of how long its legs are.

The game was also released in the right time period also, the coming weeks with holidays like Xmas and the week after New Year will keep sales higher than on Monhun 3:rd

Good stuff, Nintendo usually always gives out EU sales which are hard to come by, so they are very useful.
