i dont believe this ,, there is no OS issues because you cant fucked up the hardware and

the software at the same time .

What does it mean.

Do we have any concrete evidence that PS4 will have said issues at launch? Or is it just conjecture at this point?

Trying to acheive that balance on a personal level so here you go

Not everything is rosy on Sony's side too.

Just saying...

2014 probably would have worked out better for both companies.

Sony has their own challenges and have been very coy about handing out machines with working online. Journalists are highly skeptical if PSN will work on Day 1 on PS4 since it has yet to go live.

I know it's cool to throw MS into the furnace, but Sony has their fair share of issues as well. They are just not as transparent at the moment.

The negativity for PS4 has to do with journalists blindly being told to believe the OS will work 100% on launch, PSN will work optimally, and things will go smooth as butter without any machine before hand to test out. Still, MS has a huge headache ahead of them with all the crashes, bugs, and broken features.

And then liquidmetals posts are worth reading to as he/she is a PS4 dev or insider or knows people etc.

Suddenly the low power/resume missing on the PS4 does not seem like as big a deal.

Seriously though. All of this is expected. I'd be surprised if the PS4 does not have network issues/OS issues. Every new OS that launches is going to have lots of bugs that will be resolved in the first 6~ months or so.

This is nothing new.

Can someone summarize what's going on?

Famousmortimer was hyping "something bigger than Xbox 720p" in the end it's nothing, at least nothing that can't be fixed with a software update, something to do with Xbox One VoIP API and it currently causing connectivity problems. Microsoft introduced whole party system in 2008 with NXE update, I am sure they will be able to fix everything that is currently buggy on One, maybe not on the release date, but few weeks after.

I'm waiting for the fake Kaz Hirai twitter account to go:

"At Sony we value the quality of our services, so we'll just remove them until they are good to go."

Honestly, I'm feeling a little worried about how either of the consoles are going on day one.

Wait, a buggy OS that is said to be months behind what it should be is less important than a Call of Duty game being 720p?

"D"

I'm extremely insecure with how much f2p mobile games are encroaching on Nintendo
Hey Mort, Don't let it get to you bro. It's not like your job is on the line or anything like that. Sure your rep will probably be bashed around a bit but the people that really know what you stand for, those are the ones that matter at the end of the day. I commend your dedication to gaming and dishing out the truth and justice, but man, spread some of the good fight to the rest of us....you can't and shouldn't do it alone. That what you have us (GAF) for...a bunch of insane gamers that would do nearly anything for our expensive "drug habit". Don't let this take you down when there's so many people out there that you can lean on and that will be in your corner.

If some random game journo in the know said in a podcast or forum, "Hey, MS having some issues with party chat, they're working on it, party may be wonky for a few months" this would have been non news. I've been on GAF for a while and I trust you as a source...but the "OMG I got a megaton, stay tuned!!!" intro was a bit much, no? You must have known this revelation, if it comes to fruition, is only important to the Gaf chapter of the Sonybot sharktank. Either way, I appreciate you breaking the story, and I hope you don't get any personal blowback.

Funny, this causes a huge Gif worthy meltdown for people who never had any intention of getting a X1, only mildly dissapointing to most* people looking forward to MS's console. I wonder how Sony sold a single unit since being overpriced with inferior multiplat ports and gimped online is such a horrendous position to be in. My how the tables have turned...

*Quite sure party chat is a system seller for some.

It depends on precisely what features are currently causing disconnects though doesn't it? It's a terrible problem for an online console, what are the major games? CoD and BF? those are some heavy hitting online games, if this means that you are unable to play online properly for 1 month or so then that's a big hit for that section of Xbox fans, which is quite substantial, especially when only looking at those who would be day one adopters.

The thing is, with games running at a lower resolution, you get used to it, that's how it is, however with disconnects it annoys the shit out of you because it is always reminding you there is a problem. We do not know the extent of the connectivity problems, Also I do not think XBL will appreciate 2 million consoles suddenly turning up and disconnecting and reconnecting constantly, if this will have wider XBL consequences we do not know.

Nintendo took a real hit with the OS being a piece of shit until recently. Microsoft main business is making and developing an Operating System. There's no reason why the XBox One shouldn't work as intended.

Creating an OS is MS's day job. That they still are going to fuck it up is amazing.

It's not... not a standard OS. From what I've gathered, it's pretty complex behind the scenes. Involves multiple virtualized sandboxes. It's obviously not going to go as peachy as running a copy of windows

Par for the course for a console launch

It's not just party chat though. It's OS crashes, connecting to Live, matchmaking, etc

I would say its a big deal

Edit: With that said, it's not like XB1 users can just return their consoles at launch and buy a PS4 cause there won't be any available

Can someone summarize what's going on?

Ass storms incoming, false equivalence galore, fake MSoft dev clones everywhere, Mort is getting drunk, Matt said that he hasn't said anything, Bish stuck in his bunker because someone locked it from the outside. Just another fine evening at NeoGaf :)

Oh dear. I'm at about the $700 pledge level for this.... between this and PS4 hopefully I'll get some next gen gaming done in November.

mortimer, i love you man, I really do, but take a step back and relax please. if you know anything about anything you know that we love your leaks and want you to continue.

that being said:

Right now Ben Kuchera is telling everyone to doubt me. Most who don't follow this forum probably are. People who do follow this forum know I had the ps4 reveal, the xb1 reveal, the xb1 e3 (12/15 games!), the ps4 reveal, the only person on this forum going against cboat/etc that the PS4 wasn't launching in October, the driveclub delay, cod 720p... any now this.

you're not really trying to take credit for all these things are you? I mean, everyone knew about the PS4 reveal, and multiple people called the X1 reveal coming in May...you weren't the only one going against CBOAT's ps4 october release (many people actually doubted that one). thuway called the CoD 720p (you hinted at it), and Proelite called the OS/XBL problems (you expanded on that).

also:

So was it a long con? Did I get inside info on all of that shit so I could screw everyone at the very last second? I would almost believe that if it wasn't sony. They aren't that competent. I actually offered myself, sexually(not sexually), to Adam Boyes early last summer and he said "You aren't qualified."

what does the bolded even mean?
(i'm gonna chalk up part of this stuff up to you maybe being drunk as you said)

and then on your blog:

As of now the Xbox One OS and XBL (the name for the XBL side of Azure is “Thunderhead”) are having major issues. Maybe it will be fixed in time, maybe it won’t. The obvious question to me was does this have to do with Microsoft reversing the DRM and having to strip it out (Pete note: That would partially make it my fault and I wouldn’t like that at all)?

it would be as partially your fault as it would be anyone else who didn't pre-order the system.

hope you don't take this the wrong way. I, and many others, do enjoy your leaks and we believe them. And we appreciate you working/putting in the effort to get these leaks.

You're right. I apologize. He may or may not have problems. I shouldn't have assumed he did.

He doesn't have "problems." What the fuck are problems anyways? And what does that matter? Guy has proven to be a legit source of info.

If he had six toes would it fucking matter, would it be a problem? NO. It's a gaming forum, he's giving out pre-launch fiasco details, everything else is irrelevant. You got a problem with that?

Jeez man, these people...

Everyone, quick! Get onto your roof and show your ass!

I laughed harder at this than anything else in this thread.

To weigh in on the OP: If XBL does wind up having major issues, if they move to a per-game VOIP instead of a system-wide cross-game VOIP the way the 360 does, if shit doesn't work right for "months" after launch, then yes this could be a very huge issue.

It's not as simple as "both consoles are going to have glitches at launch, get over it". This is something they had working, and working WELL, working like fucking gangbusters on 360. To have the ONE thing they really had going for them, the ONE thing that Sony was really going to have to step up and prove they did better (aka more like MS/the 360), get screwed up like this is a major blow.

If everything else had been smooth, if the system architecture/power hadn't been inferior, if the Kinect wasn't forced on people, if it weren't $100 freaking more, then this would've been a small hurdle to be overcome.

However, in light of all the other glaring mistakes MS had made with the XB1, then this (if true) could very well turn out to be the death knell for the system. Nobody wants to have to pay $100 more to get inferior hardware, inferior games, AND an inferior network service that is even inferior to what the SAME FREAKING COMPANY had LAST GEN. Come on now.

I hope for MS's sake Mort et al are wrong about this one, but somehow I doubt it.

So Sony and MS are both having problems right before new hardware launch?

Sure, it's a problem, but holy crap it's not the end of the world...

From his own blog post it comes as VoIP API and that you might have issues with players dropping in and out of Party when going from one App/Game to another. It's the only solid thing he explained, everything else was vague, including friend requests not going through. I wouldn't count on it, since you can accept friend requests on xbox.com, SmartGlass App and Xbox App, on Win8, Android or iOS. Why wouldn't it work on One? And yes, even if everything he said won't be fixed weeks after launch it's still fixable unlike the weak and complicated hardware. You can fix API and patch OS, but you can't get extra power from Hardware since they already overclocked it.

It's Heretic...enough said.
Closer and closer to launch these guys will keep losing their marbles.
