So only one console is being rushed? Heh, okay. How can I create equivalence when the equivalence is already (blatantly) there?
Anyway, I expected OS issues at launch on both systems before they were even revealed/announced. That's simply tech these days.
All I did was try to understand why this is more "controversial" than the typical issues at launch. That's all.
There was a false equivalence in your original statement. Day one patch is not the same as OS problems.
In this day and age we always expect a Day 1 patch - it means manufacturing can go ahead and you still have a further 6 months of more to sort out the software services side. Effectively the V1.0 OS on a console needs to be able to run a game, go online for patches and patch itself... nothing more. It will update itself from an on disc patch or the internet.
6 months of development time in this game is HUGE!
If these rumours are correct.. a BIG IF... then we are getting the impression that Sony's problems are around getting their online services commissioned and tested in time, but the OS in it's current day 1 patch state (v1.5) is pretty solid - the only major feature missing is instant resuming from standby. We know this from their patch notes.
MS have no patch notes form their V1.x All rumours seem to suggest they are in a state of disarray just trying to implement features that have been core to XBL for quite some time.
That IS concerning.
Every recent "connected console" Wii U, Vita, etc has benefited from a day one patch. It did not mean they were in big trouble - it just gave more dev time to hone the user experience.
