Deadly Premonition PC port locked to 720p, no gfx options (nm, Durante fixed it)

Stop with the jesus stuff, at least until I actually fix the game.

It might be that there really are issues with this one which prevent a higher rendering resolution from being implemented. You never know.

You fixed Dark Souls so, for me, you're already better than Jesus :p

You already earned it with the Dark Souls fix, anything else after that is gravy :p

So what's the deal with this and Dark Souls? Beyond "lol Japan", I mean.

I understand the framerate caps in games like Naruto, but in the cases of resolution in Dark Soul and Deadly Premonition is it most likely due to the devs not wanting to pay for minor menu updates and any extra QA that would go into testing different resolutions? That's sounds like the most likely guess to me.

The developers, or more likely the publishers.

Or they really are/were unaware that there is a demand on PC for such things as graphics settings. Again, you never know.

Deadly Premonitions ability to be technically incompetent across 3 different platforms, all released months apart is actually kind of impressive in a sad way.

I wonder who actually did the port work. I imagine Access Games (or majority of them at least) are hard at work on Swery's next game. If I remember right, Toybox did the grunt work on the Director's Cut PS3 version.

If you're playing Deadly Premonition and it looks like anything better than crap you're not really playing Deadly Premonition. I'm only half kidding...

You sound like you haven't actually played it so whatever.

In the Steam thread he asked if the game was actually good. And now he suddenly knows it's terrible?

You know who was always humble too? Jesus. You won't fail.

I know. Look, I'll take a fix if there can be one, but people expecting higher resolutions will make a difference in this game, just stop GAF.

thanks for the laugh
They also made DMC3.

Look, as annoying as these framerate-locked, resolution-locked PC ports are, at least they work. That's better than I can say for a lot of games from all over the globe. And I can't help but shake my head at people who say games like Deadly Premonition or Dark Souls are the worst PC ports of all time when they are perfectly functional on PC, don't have outrageous hardware requirements, faithful to the original game designs, and aren't missing any features from other versions of the game.

Hell, Dark Souls:ptD Edition is the definitive version of the game, even without DSFix, and that doesn't stop people from saying it's the worst PC port of all time, or a bad port of the game.

thanks for digging up your standards to show us all. you can sit down now.

I was planning to play this today, so it's good news for me. Now I won't have to waste hours disabling my keyboard driver and editing .inis. It is a console game, so I want a console-like experience out of it. Just install and play. Sadly, I will have to replace .dlls when durante's fix comes out.

Even the reviews admit it's terrible. 1 even gave it a 10/10 while admitting it was completely terrible. I couldn't figure out if I was being trolled or not.

How does a higher (i.e. native) resolution not tremendously affect IQ? Nobody is expecting the game to suddenly become a looker with the presumable DPfix.

I see what you did there

For a Japanese developer's first effort on the platform, i'm less bothered with that. Would you rather no game at all? And it's a learning experience for them. Look how good the PC version of Dark Souls 2 is shaping to be.
No, but it's pretty inexcusable. Pricing it $5 more in 2013 than they did in 2010 is an issue for me, too.

Higher resolutions do make a difference. Why else would people play Wii games on their computer?

Also, have you tried playing 4 player splitscreen games, formerly playable at 480p on a SD television, in glorious high definition? Suddenly, "I can't see shit" is no longer a legitimate issue, in Mario Kart.

I was interested in Deadly Premonition, but I'll pass unless Durante can do something about it. Why would anyone buy a horrible PC port when they could pick up the PS3 or 360 versions with the same specs for considerably cheaper?

Goodluck, Durante!

Because the 360 version runs at like 20 fps and the PS3 one at even lower. This one at least runs at 60 fps

Because even horrible PC ports these days are leagues better than their console counterparts.

I dunno. Sometimes it feels like GAF is full of people who expect just that. DP is a dirty, filthy whore. You can buy her Louis Vuittons if it makes you feel better, but part of her charm is just what a dirty filthy whore she is.

We're not talking about Battlefield 4 here.

In no universe would I want to spin a locked resolution in a modern (as in "GPU-powered") 3D game to be anything but bad, but if I'm going to play this game I'm going to play the best version, and the best version will be this seemingly minimal-effort PC port.

I've never even heard of this game. Gotta give Durante a lot of respect even for looking into it. PC gaming needs more folks like him.

I actually always thought it sounded somewhat interesting, ever since reading about the original console release on GAF. Also voted for it on Greenlight IIRC. I wasn't planning to get it until a sale, but it's really not all that expensive.

ATTN Japanese developers: stop being rubbish and hire Durante to help make your PC ports decent. Your customers will thank you for it and support your games more in the future.

Well, anyone can help if they want, it's open source after all. :p

What worries me is that the game actually got removed from GamersGate tho. I wonder if it'll even be the same version on Steam? Maybe the Steam version has a separate configuration program.

Also, a quick question Durante: did FROM software EVER message you to thank you for your work on the PC version, or ask for any kind of input for the sequel? It seems insane to me that you effectively saved this game for many people on the PC, yet receive no acknowledgement from the devs or the publisher for your efforts.

I don't think so. But I think he at least got a decent amount of donations out of it.

Oh, and thank you Durante for being our savior. No pressure.

That would be like openly admitting they screwed things up, which isn't something publishers usually do.

No, I would rather good version of game.

Dark Souls should have had those options. I'm not excusing that.

But that shouldn't be confused with a "bad" version of the game. Bad versions are games that crash, are buggy, unstable, poorly optimized, etc. Dark Souls PC was extremely solid in those regards. It didn't require a beast of a system to run well and it was generally very stable. It just needed a little love in the options area.

It's not cheaper where I live, I would have to pay around 25€ even for a used PS3 version, 360 isn't much below that.

The PS3 version still goes for $30 and the 360 version is still around $20 used, so really, the PC version is priced between those two versions, but has everything the PS3 version has and some more content as well

Seems well-priced and not everyone owns a console

I don't think the actual gameplay is terrible. Yes it's very much PS2 budget and not exactly technically accomplished but I never found it horrible or unenjoyable to play. But then different strokes and all that.
