I'm sure GameFreak will slow down a lot with Pokemon spinoffs. No Pokemon Ranger this time and it will be a long time before we see another Pokemon Dungeon after the sales of the last. They will focus on third entries and remakes.

Didn't they just announce that pikachu detective game? And I thought that they were making a pokemon fighting game too?

Looking at the Wii U, it really has no real future in Japan if it keeps this up. Not that it really matters, it has practically zero support from Japanese developers. None of this should be a surprise to anyone. At least the Vita has support (not sure why it did even through the dry times), so seeing it get resurrected also isn't really a surprise. Unless the Wii U starts getting support from other companies besides Nintendo, how can it really do anything in Japan?

I got FF Dimensions on Google Play. It was okay, but no way am I playing an RPG with touch controls again. Fucking digital buttons, my fingers hated me after that game.

Is that not controller compatible? I wouldn't be surprised given that SE does the bare minimum, but if it is then you shouldn't have that excuse.

What I don't get is why they just don't do a general dump across all platforms if that is their plan. The people who like games like Dragon Quest aren't really on mobiles.

I'm sure some basic coding is needed as there's no general legal emulation solution on either android or iOS. As far as dumping ROMs all around, I'm not sure; they have done it to some extent (dumping pretty much every FF prior to X on PSN, for example).

Sinobi shows the top 50 selling titles in 21st century in Japan. As expected, DS ruled Japan in last decade.
http://ameblo.jp/sinobi/entry-11658137027.html

Data from 2000/1/1 - 2013/9/29

Thanks! :) He excludes PS1 and GBOY software sales since 2000, for reference.

Well, yeah, still pretty farfetched--Wii U is about where X360 was after 4 years.

3DS numbers coming in November will not be pretty compared to last year. The 3DS had Animal Crossing in early November and the first party software is looking barren for the end of 2013. I hope Nintendo will be able to recoup that loss with Puzzle & Dragons release in early December as I sincerely believe it will be a success.

Lastly, I'm shocked that Nintendo did not announce the release date for Mario Party. It should be an early December release and could cross 500k by year-end if it releases during the holiday period.

I hope Nintendo achieves 5.5 million 3DS sales by year-end.

How good were the 3DS numbers last year in November? It'll still be the holiday season, and I could see a second wind for Pokemon and Monster Hunter during the holidays. There will also be that One Piece game (which looks like they've put quite a bit of effort into) and its special 3DS XLs in late November (Nov. 21?). December will then have Puzzles & Dragons along with Zelda (crosses fingers that Japan will like 2D Zelda a lot for some reason).

yet sega does not localize phantasy star, yakuza, shining, or valkyria chronicles games

Specifically regarding the franchises you listed where they skipped localizing the PSP games; there was virtually no market for PSP outside of Japan by the time those were released.

I would think that Square succeeds on mobile in part because their games are cheap, not entirely despite it.

Pikachu detective thing is apparently a large project. I'm a little confused as to how things are worded; either it took them two years already or it will take two years to make. Doesn't sound like something they'll be pumping out.

Fighting game is a rumour, sorta. We saw a fancy scene (that may not even be a game) and a trademark for "Pokken".

No he doesn't. It's a 21st century list, and it actually starts on 2001.01.01. enishi mistyped the start date.

Ah, it's a mistaken start date. That works, too. DQVII, Pokemon Crystal, etc. weren't there, but they were all 2000 releases. Thanks for the update!

Vita owners buy third party games, Wii U owners don't. Simple as that really.

Sinobi also mentions in the original post that, although he's only typed up the top 50, the top 100 games includes 1 PS game, 1 GB game and 1 GC game. The GC game is undoubtedly Smash Bros, the PS1 game Dragon Quest IV, and I'm guessing the GB game is Dragon Quest Monsters 2.

Oh man if Ninendo/Square could do the following for 2014

>RSE Remake
>FFVI remake
>DQXI

then I will agree with the peeps who are saying that the 3DS is a GOAT handheld.

Til then, that title belongs to the GBA and Vita

Uh, what? The Vita is nowhere near the GOAT handheld. To put it in the same sentence as the GBA is mind-boggling, unless the sentence is "I wish Vita was ten percent as good as GBA was."

Did you just put the Vita and the GBA in the same tier? What comparable pair will you draw up next, the Wii U and PS2?

I saw 3 ads for Wii U Party just yesterday and 4 the day before (in a total of about 6 hours of television)

This is the most ads I have ever seen for a Wii U release (including the hardware). Also the most for a Non-pokemon Nintendo game I have seen since New Super Mario Bros 2.

I don't think the ad is very good but at least it's getting the word out. I really feel they should have had ads with this frequency for the Hardware and early releases. Seems a bit too little too late, but if it is a taste of how they will push 3D World, Wii Fit and DK in the future then its a good thing. Or at least less bad.

I'm going to guess: No.

On the plus side, there are no more PS3+PS2 numbers.PS2 is not longer included.

PS4 forecast is 5M iirc.

You mean PS2+PS3+PS4 numbers to be 100,000,000,000 total shipped.

Edit: Jeez, those seems like some bad numbers for the gaming division. I know the PS4 will sell, but fuck, they seem to be in trouble.

so last year they shipped 6.8m ps2+ps3 in q3 and this year they are expecting shipping 15m ps2+ps3+ps4?

since its unlikely the ps2/3 number will be up yoy does that mean 8m ps4's

PS2 is no longer included since the beginning of FY13.

The forecast is for 10M PS3s and 5M PS4s.

I think 5 million PS4s is kinda a crazy forecast. I'm kinda thinking when all is said and done it will have like a 7 million LTD. At the end of the generation.

EDIT: Oh, now it makes sense. NB Sony doesn't break down shipments by region.

It's scary to think they might lump together ps3 and ps4 now that ps2 is gone
Investors are going to want to know what the new console is selling.

In the grand scheme, I don't think they really care about Vita. But the PS4 is the flagship home console.

If they lump them together they'll be questioned about it.

if the ps4 does do better than xbox and wiiu which it looks likely at least initially then there should be plenty of pr about it by scee and scea.

Japan we actually get good data so even if it bombs we get the details

If they could get away with combining PS2 and PS3 I don't see why they couldn't do it with the PS4.

Favorable Increase on Financial Results for ended September 30, 2013
16.9% increase in Net Sales, 15.2% increase in Operating Income
from Previous Term

- "Monster Hunter 4" and Capcom pachislo machine contributed to
the highest records at all levels for the first half of a fiscal year -

a. In the Digital Contents business, thanks to its solid fan base, Monster Hunter 4 (for Nintendo 3DS) was an immediate success shipping more than two million units as soon as it was released on September 14. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen" (for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) also enjoyed steady sales, while "Resident Evil Revelations" (for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC) and "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies" (for Nintendo 3DS) also basically achieved projected sales.

b. Sales of "Lost Planet 3" (for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC) were below expectations due in part to intensifying competition in the European and U.S. markets.

c. Meanwhile, in addition to the online game "Monster Hunter Frontier G" (for PC and Xbox 360) performing steadily, the browser game "Onimusha Soul" is garnering a great deal of attention in Taiwan, including being at the top of the charts, with the start of its distribution there. In order to expand Capcom's business field, this marked the beginning of the Company's base in Taiwan, which was established last year, in gaining a foothold.

I don't think Lost Planet 3 counts as high profile.

^They just updated their IR data too:

http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/million.html

Things I've noticed:

-RE5 now surpassed vanilla SF2 as Capcom best selling game of all time (6.5m+). SF2 is still their best game of all time by far though when counting all the different versions (14m+).

-RE6 now@5.2m

-MP3rd now@4.8m (doesn't include "the best" version sales I think)

-MH4 now@2.8m (15 days sales)

http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/salesdata.html

Dark Arisen must be 700k.

DD series at 2m.
Dragon's Dogma 1.3m

Lost Planet was 4.9m (google cache), now 5.4m

LP3 ~500k

Resident Evil Revelations HD is now 1m. another 100k.

Going to split this.
