it doesnt boot in standby mode, it is similar to sleep on your computer, so there is no booting at all.

.

PR nonsense. If it has a sleep mode, I'd assume it works like any modern PC, being available in seconds. This isn't new or revolutionary or anything.

Does Major still have an account here, or is he content to snipe from Reddit instead?

To be fair, that's not hard to do. My smart tv takes quite a few seconds to boot up.

In fact, I just tested it for the sake of science and it takes 14.12 seconds for my tv to boot.

My ps3 and 360 boot like a second faster until my tv turns on.

led tvs are slow as hell turning on, like 8-10 seconds.

If you turn your TV off, why would you leave the console on? That's like turning your monitor off but leaving your PC on. Do people do this?

So there is a universal boot time for TV's from stand by?

How can anyone make this categorical type of a claim?

What they aren't saying is that booting it is slowwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Doesn't really matter since most will use the standby feature. But I just felt the need to be part of the neogif Sony hivemind.

Major Nelson taking shots at gaf from the safety of the xbox one subreddit - classy...
Shouldn't he be expalaining what he meant by
"He’s also right: We have some of smartest programmers in the world working on Xbox One. I am very much looking forward to the next few months (and beyond) as the truth comes out."

Big deal, my new Sony TV turns pn in like one second, you can't change the input for like 10 seconds but it tirns on lightninghly fast.

Ummm.. yes. All the time. My PC has all the media on it. Networked. We watch stuff on the media players from the PC. I'm not going to leave my monitor on when I'm not actively using the computer.

Major taking that snipe at us. Seems like Reddit thinks we spin everything around, except every thread is supported by facts -- insanity I say!

will it turn your TV on via HDMI-CEC? Using the IR blaster would be too unreliable as it wouldn't know if my TV was already on

It will "LIKELY" boot faster than your TV.

He knows from experience how long TV boot times do as do many of us. For instance my Bravia boots in 2.8 seconds. If xbox wake is within that time frame then its good.

It is a bit of a silly way to word it, but the real point is that they have a 'standby' mode.

Plenty of people leave their PC's on 24/7, precisely so there's no constant having to wait around as it boots. This is pretty much just a console following in line.

Doesn't seem like a huge deal, but I can definitely see it being one of those things that you would be annoyed not to have in the future once you get used to it.

Most TVs have discrete "power on" and "power off" IR commands in addition to the "toggle power" command.

Using discrete commands, it doesn't have to know if your TV is on or off already.

Wake featurs on the Vita are really really great. I leave my PC on 24/7 and My TV is on every second i'm home so this is a good feature for me.

I'm not really happy leaving my electronics on. I prefer to turn them off, to save the electricity.

In any case, PS4 will have exactly the same thing sometime in the future, and I'll not use that either.

Will it upscale faster than the TV, too?

And lol @ Nelson. For someone who whined so much about getting a GAF account, he's sure staying away from it now that he can't sell the power parity fantasy anymore. Has he or Penello ever commented on that?
