WIRED: Mark Cerny - The American Who Designed the PlayStation 4 and Remade SONY

Out of all the games to remake, you would think Cerny's Marble Madness would get one. With today's physics you could really re-imagine the game and take it to new heights with some whacked out stuff.

What an excellent article. Really well written, expansive, and full of things I honestly never knew despite reading all the other Cerny articles and seeing all his other presentations. (Kutaragi reducing Cerny to tears in a 45-minute tirade against Crash Bandicoot? Good. Shit.)

It really does capture the culture change within Sony that has lead them to their favorable position now.

Outstanding article.
Those 3 really are the dream team, and its about damn time Cerny became a superstar considering all he's done for gaming.

RIP in peace Krazy Ken, you will not be missed.

Yes, Shu is adorable and hilarious, Cerny is super smart and soothing, and Andrew is the casual businessman.

They all go down easy for me, for some reason the other 'team' just does not have any likable characters for me. Beady eyed, fake smiles and diversionary tactics come to mind.

Check out his "Road to PlayStation" presentation on YouTube. he tells his life story at the start, coding at 10, attending university at 16, Atari at 17, Sega 19, president of Universal Games by 36.
Fucking legend.

Yep, the guy's a legit genius, regardless of what people might think of him personally.

Sony's decision to actually ask developers what they want (and to put one in charge of hardware) will pay off handsomely over the coming years. I guess the PS3's rocky start (to say the least) was a serious wake-up call.

I am just imaging trying to explain this to someone else. You see, there is this guy Mark Cerny and his voice....and this clip of Antonio Banderas....and ah fuck it.

The thought of trying to do that may very well be more amusing than the .gif

MAY be....this needs testing.

So there I was trying to work out why I should care who Mark Cerny is and then I find out via Wired of all places that he made one of my favourite arcade games of all time.

Someone need to make a gif of Banderas getting into the tub while watching the video of himself watching Cerny while getting into the tub!

Absolutely. The game STILL holds up all these years later. If they actually remade it with the possibilities of today, it could be truly bonkers.
Add in a level creator. Done deal.

I moderated a panel at GDC a few years ago that had Mark Cerny on it. I tried to impress him by showing him my custom Marble Madness ringtone. I don't think it worked.
