Yes, open world is the wrong term. My vision is more of an Arkham City style hub world with a nonlinear mission structure. Same as what you said basically. You can do a lot with Dante as a mercenary and private investigator simply by ditching the current mission structure.

Nobody is talking about launch. We're 2-3 years away from another DMC game if we get one at all which isn't a given. Devil May Cry 5 in 2016 on PS360 does not sound appealing to me at all.

Just got back to this thread, but yeah, if it comes in 2016, then it should come to PS4/720/whatever.

Also, this. No loading times, please, and it would be godlike. They do not even need to stick to one enviroment style as in Arkham, since they can just have portals to alternate places/dimensions/whatever.

So, i'm playing through the game right now and just got to Mission 12. I turned the game off and when I started again I wasn't able to select Eryx or Aquila. I've gone back to mission 6 to reclaim Eryx and it doesn't work. Am I just screwed? If so, then i'm just sending this back to Gamefly. This one of the most annoying glitches i've ever ran across in a game. Especially since you need those weapons to progress in the game.

Getting to play Virgil's Downfall after so many hours spent with Dante feels really weird :( Such a contrast of fighting style between the two.

Fuck, now I have to get back into DmC. Between Turbo mode and LDK mode for BP... it's essentially what DmC for PC should've been. It's too bad enemy step still looks ridiculous and colored enemies still exist but with thess two changes it is now much closer to a DMC game. Fans do what NT/Capcom don't.

WTF at that Co-op mod... super curious about that. It's a potential game changer, quite literally.

Thats just the first play through on normal too. The DLC chapters are great and adds some time along with playing it on higher difficulties which completely change the monster setups.
I'm renting it though so I only really have time for one play through so I can get my next game.

Maybe I misread it but doesn't it say that using overdrive on gold glowing enemies stops them?

About to play this about how long would you guys say it is?

On normal mode I ran through the campaign in I believe 6 or 7 hours? 7.5 if you wanna be generous. Your time on your first play through might be longer or shorter depending on how experienced you are with DMC games.

It has to be level 2 Overdrive.

Beat it. Liked it. Hope there is another one someday.

Only thing I didn't really like were those color coded enemies.

I liked those Drekavac/Dreamrunner guys. I'd just shoot at them to watch them twirl their swords around.

Great game, really enjoyed it. However, a few problems. I mapped my attack button to Square, because Triangle fealt strange. Well, that made the last gun you get completely useless (X+Tri to detonate).

Also, that ending. Lawl.

I really didn't like it, but once I got the axe and spinning blades I was finding my groove. Absolutely hated those dogs with the spikes on their backs.

Overall, I liked it a lot. I didn't like any previous Devil May Cry game at all.

I...don't? I don't know how to answer that. I don't like Bayonetta either.
Well usually when you don't like something there a reason. Like I (and no one else) likes DMC 2 because it was a shitty game that was mainly done by "Konami guys" since Capcom decided not to have the original team to work on DMC 2 (were they working on another game at the time?". The combo system/naming was terrible, enemies were recycled horribly, and the difficulty was lowered unless you got the special edition. It's a shame because the story wasn't bad per se.

Finally got myself a new controller and tested the Turbo Mod.

SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOD

I'm using the 20% setting, and Dante is so much more interesting now! Still didn't test it with Vergil though.

Welcome beautful toddler, Madison Elizabeth, to the horde!
Going through this now. This is a great fucking game. Definitely the best from this studio, by far.

So, I have no problem with this game or the character. It's actually one of my favorite games of the year, but I just saw this on tumblr and loved the design better on a female character. I wonder if the game would have gotten more or less shit if they went that route.

Why not just use a female OG Dante?

I can get behind a female demon slaying character.

BTW DmC on sale for $29.99 on Steam.

Unpopular opinion, I hate all Dante designs except for DMC 2/Nocturne's. New Dante's not my favorite thing in the world, but I still like him a lot better than Dante's aging rockstar getup.

Bought this and the DLC because of the sale. Really good so far. The conversation between Dante and the Succubus has to be one of the best ones in all of gaming. The stage morphing and destruction is pretty bonkers too. Glad I took a chance.

finally got a chance to play this. loved it!

i loved how outrageously vulgar this game was. so many hilarious curse words in there. all in all it was a super fun game but my biggest gripe with this game was the camera. holy shit was it bad. but the environments constantly changing and the tons of grappling around was great and a ton of fun.

another thing that i noticed was that this game felt visually dirty. i know graffiti was a big theme but the black stuff from limbos all over the walls and shit really made the graphics look too muddy and dirty. otherwise i thought it looked solid.

fun ass game.

Finally finished it, loved it. Really glad I got it. Was worried I wouldn't like it or it wouldn't be for me.

Ninja Theory deliver, yet again. I wish those guys could catch a break.
Level design was amazing, the club is off the chart, the style is snappy - I love how the mediocre writing is delivered with such flawlessly voiced acting, editing and timing in general to make such a smarmy character completely likeable.

I thought it was NT's best combat so far too, really enjoyed the game overall. A lot of effort went into this.

Really thinking of picking this up after going back and watching the GB quick look. I'd really like to buy it on psn but just not sure it's worth the $60.

How is the difficulty in normal mode compare to dmc3 normal difficulty?

Started this the other day and have finished up to level 6 now I think, I don't really get why this game got so much abuse. Was it that people just didn't like the way Dante looked? I'm having a lot of fun with it anyway, even though I'm pretty terrible, can't really get many good combos going. But I don't care. It's a good game.

So DmC 2 seems out of the question what with NT pitching their new console game and IoS game and DMC 5 is out of the question from a marketing stand point (DMC 4 was almost 5 1/2 years ago at this point. By the time they get it out it will have been almost 8 years since Nero's DMC 4 and over 11 years since OG Dante was last protagonist).

Is it just me being paranoid and a downer, or are these signs that DMC may be getting shelved for good?

I don't think it's shelved for good but it's probably going to be on a small hiatus for now.

Crossing my fingers for some DMC related news at TGS but it's a long shot.

Franchises have taken longer breaks than that and come back strong. But it'd need to be very fresh in a number of ways - not just with regard to combat mechanics, but also with regard to the basic game design. If and when DMC Fucking Returns, it almost certainly won't be a linear chapter-based structure anymore. Whether that means going full open-world and ditching the score-attack thing entirely or having a branching nonlinear mission-select system or something entirely different is unclear.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
After cancelling my order back in feb due to Gafs great opinions! I recently got DmC for 12 quid.......it's actually really good & NT best game so far
I actually want a sequel to this now.

I fight against
Dantes brother
at the moment and this kind of bossfights remind me at No more heroes, which is on oft he best games of all time.
So, do you know any other games with this kind of battles? Red Steel 2 or Dishonored for example (never played both).

DmC was pretty good, nice art-style, combo-system and level design: 8/10.

The lack of stuff being done in the community is depressing. 5 1/2 years later and I'm still finding a DMC 4 combo video here and there. DmC? Usually the same few people put out a few videos, but most are with less than 100 views and are few and far between. No exciting new tech, no exciting new combos, no exploration of mechanics, nothing. This game was pretty much dead 6 months out from launch. 8 1/2 months? Nary a whisper, really.

This wasn't a game that was designed to be played for years. The producer of DMC4 pretty much said that the combat would have depth lasting 2 years if not more (just last week I saw a video with new tech in DMC4 using Mustang). DmC's combat was never supposed to be at that level. While it's sad that the game didn't get much content from its community .. the skill cap wasn't high to begin with and the game is pretty much figured out at this point. Only thing left is to mod the game and change up mechanics, then try to push a modded version.

Finally finished the game. Better than DMC 4. Too bad not many people were willing to give this game a chance

Actually liked the humor; Mundus's spawn....ugly mofo. I was kind of stubborn on not using items all that often and paid for it by dying much more than I would have wanted. And I didn't end up using Devil Trigger all that much which was kind of a shame. Just tried Vergil's Downfall (only completed the first mission so far) and I kind of wish I had more sword attacks. I'll try to finish that late Monday night

Overall: 7.5/10

The Cryptarch's Bane
Just booted this up last night. Wasn't really sure where GAF landed on this one (dat OP, holy snark :D) but the combat feels really solid, and the presentation is really working for me. Love how many toys they give you to play with basically right off the bat. I found myself atypically compelled by the story and characterization- I've considered those aspects mostly intolerable in the DMC games so far- with the script even getting a couple laughs out of me, and the voice acting at a less-embarrassing-than-normal average. I'm sure the plot will fall apart soon enough though :D

I'm a little weird in that the "main game" for me is always really the Bloody Palace in these things, with the campaign basically serving as a pretty tutorial and practice mode. Was happy to see BP alive and well though apparently it was a separate download.

Am I understanding right that even if you buy the Vergil DLC, you can't use him in the Bloody Palace? That's a real bummer, would multiply the replay for me many times.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
So torn on this game. I love the Devil May Cry games but really don't like a lot of things about this reboot other than Kat. Dante seems like a stereotypical douchebag, "edgy" teenager. Mundus looks like a Kingpin reject. Everything in the game has that oh-so-gritty hip urban vibe going on. It doesn't even seem this reboot has the exploration, Metroidvania type qualities of its predecessors. There are other aspects that look nice, though.
