Thanks. Christmas shopping... done!

Is the 770 that good? Someone told me it would do next-gen i.e. TitanFall at only medium settings?

Titan fall will not be the most demanding game. It runs on modified source engine. Not much is needed for the engine to run well.
I also built my PC in 2007 and the motherboard and CPU are horribly out of date and would have to be completely replaced to play modern games. So would the RAM, OS and probably the hard drive which is on its last legs.
Hdd technology has not changed besides denser plates. If you have room on it that shit ain't gonna matter. Windows Vista might be out of date but 7 still owns like 50% of the market.

Saw a Video that was posted a while back on the X1 version, If anything the PS4 version looks blurrier. look at youtube I will find a link, of course youtube vids are compressed but it looks great to me in 1080. I watched vids for both versions to determine which one i should purchase.

I think it just because XB1 version have better uploader(i mean they guy who upload XB1/PS4 versions)

Dude, Titanfall is a Source Engine game. unless its crazily heavily modified, most mid range cards of the past few years should be fine.

And right now 770 is not worth the price.

get a 290 for $400. Or get a 780 at $500 if you wanna do nvidia.

The cloud will fix it

Don't play the resolution

All games will output at 1080p

You didn't gave us a chance to explain our vision of the future

Resolution doesn't matter for all games except for Forza 5 where its at glorious 1080p

Someone should make a bingo card of MS PR BS

Considering that it's using the source engine and the baseline is basically on the level of a 7770, that card of more than enough.

Is there confirmation that this will upscale to 1080p? If so this is a non-issue. It upscales, folks

Upscaling will always be fussier than native it is impossible to add details that are not it the source material. If upscaling would be enough, no need for a new console just buy a tv or amplifier with upscaling capabilities.

1080p vs 720p it is in the details....

Dead

well not really...yet

Microsoft may as well say the reason the Xbone cant do 3D is so customers can let their TVs convert the games themselves and they will get the same result

Leave us alone with your pc. No it won't destroy ps4 like it didn't destroy ps3. Nobody cares about pc. My pc doesn't play gta 5, red dead, the last of us, god of war, uncharted or any sony exclusive. You can't play next gen fifa or nba 2k either. So what's the point ?

I've got a gaming pc, games don't look that much better anyway. Too many hassles for nothing.

Sure. It will be a non issue for 99% of people who don't know shit anyway.

Yeah, good point. Sony can come out and say games X, Y and Z are 1080p on the PS4 but only 720p on the Xbox One. But then Microsoft would just say, yeah but those 720p games actually upscale to 1080p so it's a non-issue.

And the general public would be like, oh cool. Let's just get the Xbox then. It has that cool Kinect thing!

And also you should NEVER want a major platform to fail, not Sony, not Wii U, not Xbone. Why? because each one plays a vital role in the market you as a gamer should care about, and if any of them collapses it'll bring the entire thing to its knees.

This is bullshit. I despise the mandatory Kinect, the ridiculous pricing for the inferior hardware, the lies and deception on every step of the PR, the direction Microsoft wants to take gaming with their policies.

I absolutely do want them to fail and it's mostly because I don't want anyone to get behind what Microsoft stands for these days in the industry. If they fail, the market will be a bit more monopolized by Sony for a while, sure. It might even be a little bit smaller, some people might choose to get out of gaming instead of getting a PS4 or WiiU - but I don't think this would be much of an issue.

If they don't fail, everyone will see how much bullshit you can get away with, and Microsoft's vision of the future will be one step closer to becoming a reality. To me, that's a much worse outcome for the industry than a turbulence of a failure of Xbone.

Just a few of them right off the top of my head.

edit: you may want to go for the R9 290 for 399.

Yeah... of course. I want to see these handling games like PS4 in 5-6 years. Not to mention you cant play anytging with just a video card.

Welp, looking like this 'resolution gate' shit is going to be a theme that will be played out for the course of the generation. But hopefully the tools will improve and we will start to see better results as the system matures. My guess is that this will easily be the case. At least to a degree.

Personally, I can deal with it as I care more about the games than the resolution. But then seeing games like Ryse at launch is all the proof I need that there will also be plenty of eye candy on the system. Even at 900p, that game is arguably the best looking launch title out of the lot. So don't tell me that the system will not be capable of wowing us on the visual front. As it already is.
The tools will absolutely get better, and it will help to a degree, but better tools can't magically make the GPU better. The Xbox One will likely never see 1080p as a standard, not when developers are going to want to keep parity with the PS4 as much as they can.

The games over resolution argument doesn't work when you are comparing the same games. Also, you can be excited for MS's exclusives and also be pissed that they developed a horribly under powered system that can't handle rendering in 1080p with competitive visuals. You don't have to give MS a pass by dismissing resolution just because you like Halo or whatever. They fucked up and created a weak system, and they should hear about it, especially from their biggest fans. If they just get a pass on it with people defending 720p out of necessity, then they will just continue to build weak hardware in the future. There is a reason people are pissed that the games press are trying to push this "games over resolution" bullshit on gamers.

well according to Ars we should all be playing at least 8-10 feet from the TV.. so I fail to see the problem.

"you're playing too close"

wellt he original post was just asking for gpus.

with the gap between pc and next gen closer than ever before, I really can't see why a 290 won't be able to play ps4 quality games at medium- high at 1080p.

And by then people would be on there 2nd ps4 because the first one died... and i can't imagine what kind of monstrosity of a gpu you can buy with $400 in 5 years.

Is this really in question?

People actually think a PS4 is some day going to perform like a card that is 2x more powerful?

How, exactly? Magic? Does the PS4 feature nano technology that creates compute cores out fo the dust in your lvingroom?

'cause that would be killer.

I still have XP so I would need a new OS to take advantage of the new RAM, in addition to buying a new motherboard and CPU. My 768 MB GTX 460 GPU would also need upgrading to run modern games at 1080p. At that point, it would make sense to also get an SSD. The only thing worth keeping is the case.

You're right it's not only a video card, but if you're doing some real gaming on your PC, odds are you have a decent PSU, you have around 8 GB of RAM already and if you have any semi modern CPU your CPU can handle whatever next gen is throwing at you, especially if you goal is simply 1080P with stable frame rate on high, which would be better than the consoles.

Everyone acts like you need to completely rebuild your PC from scratch. Not the case at all. Generally you will need a GPU/memory upgrade first and it'll last you 3 to 4 years before you need to upgrade your CPU/motherboard.

You have to define "real" pc gaming. R9 290 that you linked needs a 500w psu alone. If that is "real" pc gaming to you than barely anyone is gaming on a pc. With that card alone I need to upgrade my mobo and psu. And why would anyone go through all that if they're goal is simply 1080p on high with stable framerates? Barely exceeding console settings defeats the whole purpose.

Your posts have been kind of douchey in this thread. You should probably step outside for a little while or something and see if you need to reorganize your priorities in your life.

Here's what I take away from all this 1080p 900p 720p bullshit that's going on. I think the X1 is more powerful than this. I just think this is more a reflection that devs don't really care about hitting a 1080p native render because they don't think most gamers care. Whether or not it's true is yet to be seen. People have to remember they started developing these games way before any of this shit started, and I don't think most of the resolution wars are extending beyond hardcore gaming communities.

But they have been hitting it on one console, and we do care.

Lazy devs!
