Call of Duty: Ghosts online multiplayer discussion thread

I haven't picked up Ghosts yet, but I also went back and played some MW2 recently and it was fantastic.

Air Killstreaks all over the place, but I still had fun. OG Infinity Ward were the kings of map design. CoD4 and MW2 had some of the greatest multiplayer maps ever designed. I can't wait for Titanfall. I didn't really like MW3's maps all that much. Some of Black Ops and BO2's maps were ok too.

All this talk of crappy Ghosts maps has basically turned me off from picking up the game.

The maps are fine. People cry about them because there aren't firefights every ten seconds and they get bored.

I've been playing much better in the last couple of days mainly because of the dedicated servers (are they finally up?, no more lag) and just randomly predicting the spawns of the enemies. In other CoD games, you can kind of guess where they will spawn but in Ghosts, they will spawn in the complete opposite where you would predict they would.

Dedi servers are only up for select people (most likely those closest to large metropolitan areas). They've gone on record as saying that it'd be too expensive to have dedi servers for everyone. Everyone not in those select markets are forced to play on P2P connections (surprise, surprise).

Despite all the hate I'm reading in this thread (and it sounds like more hate than usual for CoD), I have my PS4 copy and I'm really looking forward to playing it. Maybe I'll be sorry for saying that.

I've got both BF4 and Killzone also but for some dumb reason, I'm looking forward to CoD the most. It might actually be the first game I put in my PS4.

These same stupid issues come up every year. And I agree there are some real problems. What is so much worse this year?

Nothing.

People like to complain, no?

I'm having fun playing Ghosts, and when I die, it's 80% because I did something stupid.

This fucking game...

Admittedly, the game is fine in Domination. There are still spawn kills and whatnot, but it's not so bad. Unfortunately the strategy's changed though. It's actually beneficial to cap all three as opposed to before where you can control the other team by just capping two points. Capping all three forces pressure on the opposition splitting up the resources they have for capping one of your two points. I doubt this was intentional though. Spawns are still out of whack and ridiculous, but the game is controllable in this particular game type.

I'v been sticking with dom for a min as well because it's one of the few game modes where spawns are manageable.

Yea. Since the spawns in Dom are bit more consistent, as a new player, I have found that mode much easier to play for the purpose of learning the maps as well. As much as I love TDM, trying to learn the maps with random spawns and being shot in the back is very difficult for me.

Oh and playing squads against the AI helps learning the map as well. =P

CoD has always been a "set-up" game, where successful teams control power points on the map and dictate the flow of the game. Where I see most people struggling with this game, particularly on the larger maps, is that you simply cannot control the entire map with one setup.

Sure, on smaller maps like Warhawk and Strikezone you can probably get away with a relative static setup, but on something like Stormfront, the setups are dictated more by where you are on the map. I find that the setup needs to be constantly adjusting based on where me and my team is on the map and where the other team is.

I'm not saying it's better or worse, it's just slightly different than what most people have grown accustomed to in a CoD game. I will say that the more I learn the maps, the "smaller" they seem.

The reason people struggle controlling the maps is because your entire team can be in one quarter of the map and the opponent will still spawn in the middle of you guys...

Is that guy serious? He's running around aiming from the hip complaining about the game?... people play like that?
He's not complaining about that gun or anything related to firing from the hip with that gun...
That might even be the gun where you can't aim down the sights and it looks like that when you aim (not sure; haven't gotten through the LMGs yet). In any case, did you see how small the reticle is? Hipfiring that gun with his perks is fine because it'll still mow people down.

So did a Developer playlist just leaked on PC?

Don't know if it's part of the game.

But there is a lobby giving 4x XP.

There is also a playlist for Map Pack 1 and Map Pack 2.
Somebody done goofed.

Looks like Dome is coming back. People can make their comparisons then.

It's worse.

I was concerned about the maps at first, but I'm growing to really like them. It's a different feel, but I like the size and the slower pace. There may still be too many ways to get into any one location, but when you learn the maps, you get shot in the back significantly less.

Some of the maps are so vast that sometimes you don't know if you're at the back of the map or the middle, but once you understand the layout, it makes a lot more sense. The spawns do suck though.

If they just set standard spawn points people would have way less trouble.
at least then when you kill somebody you will know the general direction they are coming from and not popping in directly above, below, behind, beside and in front of you.

Its really bad when you have your back to a corner waiting on a care package and they spawn a inch behind you and stab you in the back.

I'm no game designer, but there has to be a better system than what they have in place. I mean, I see on killcams very often the scene of one player standing completely still then running forward a bit and stabbing me. It's clear they just spawned.

I'd think with the big maps, a good spawn system would be easier to implement. Oh well, not the first CoD that has these issues at launch.

As someone that hated MW3's maps with a passion, I'm just relieved that I'm enjoying these maps much more than those.

(and I meant to say in the post above that when you learn the maps, you get shot in the back less.)

I haven't found the spawns to be troubling in Dom or Blitz, but they do need to be adjusted in other game modes. Hopefully they get them fixed in the near future.

I'll randomly get extra points for getting X number of kills with a gun or using a certain attachment. Any place I can check my progress on these things?

I really do hope they fix the spawns soon.

You really do have to work as a team in these maps. You can't be a hero.

After playing for a bit more I think CoD just doesn't click with me anymore or something. At first I thought I was getting old, but I went back to MW3 in the last couple of weeks and still tore up, but for some reason BO2 then this just doesn't work out for me. Having the same problem here that I had in BO2, I just can't seem to find the loadout/setup that feels right for me, it sucks. I have pretty good situational awareness (it's been much more that then my reflexes getting me 2.0+k/d's in the previous games), but it seems like even when I get the drop on people I just can't pull it off (not lag-related). I'm having to roll Support now because I can't even get enough kills to get a UAV using Assault :/

As an aside, I'm wondering if they've turned on a dedicated server near me; I mentioned yesterday that I was having the best hit detection/no lag I've ever had in a CoD, but I'm thinking it was me being host. Literally all day today it's been a shitshow, usual lag and me putting half a clip into people and having them not die, etc. Same old CoD bullshit :(

Working fine for me.

Might be regional; seeing a bunch of people on Twitter and other boards saying it's down as well. Maybe a weird side-effect of having dedicated servers or something. The two people I was playing with didn't get booted (I was kicked mid-match) and are still on though. Weird.

Yea thats what rang for me too. Slowly since Black Ops 1 just had the nagging feeling that it ain't for me anymore. I can still do kind of decent in it but the love for it isn't as strong as it was years ago.

Still....gunplay is the best it's been for awhile. i like it alot.

Do dedicated servers make any difference ? Specially for those in countries with poor internet speed.
Does Ghosts have a hybrid ded. Server and PVP system ? Because some friends told me they still suffer from host migration on 360.

Huge difference when on dedicated servers. I haven't complained about lag in a CoD game for the first time ever which is huge.

Down for me as well.

I havn't had a single host migration happen in my game so Idk if it's pure ded servers but I don't think it's just p2p anymore. Maybe a Listen or a hybrid

The bigger maps sound fun to me. MW3 and Black ops 2 were too chaotic, and MW3 in particular didn't have much of an ebb an flow to the matches. I might pick this up at my local redbox and see if I like it.

Listen servers, no real dedicated servers.
so basically is the same crap, from a perspective of someone who usually has to play with people from other countries and its base ping 150.
Anyone know if XBO's alleged dedicated servers are actually dedicated server or just more listen servers ?

I finally realized that there is a way to disable camera lock. It was frustrating since it is by default bound to the same button as sprint. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't turn while running without letting up on the button first. Many deaths later, I disabled this and now I can actually look around.

I still suck.

One of the devs just confirmed the FOV fix isn't bannable so I just grabbed it, and what a difference. You can see everything, and it's just insane with oracle up.

So does PS3 MP really run on dedicated servers? I get way less connection issues than Blops II but it still seems like peer to peer.

So it turns out playing with a controller on PC is an enormous handicap.

I always assumed I would be better with a controller than with KB/M because I'm used to playing COD on console, but that isn't the case at all. My K/D is literally 7 times higher than it was with the 360 pad.

Getting fucking leaning kills for the camo is so fucking stupid....

Either way sitting at a 2.5 KD at lvl 20 in the first prestige.
