Digital Foundry vs. Dead Rising 3

Maybe they were,

it would have been better to do a gif or put a 2nd pic showing the loaded texture.

People are using that picture now as if that is what loaded textures look like.

It seems the person who originally posted that pic is trying to make the game seem worse then it actually is?

it was posted earlier
does it matter there's a better texture when it loads in seconds after it should have?
they should delay the game and finish it before they release it

omg 720p @ 20FPS with Jaggies everywhere...wtf

So much for Albert saying these games look and play great, clearly thats subjective here, it may look good for a current gen, but Next Gen...?

Just so there's no confusion, the texture does load.

Which is still bad for a next gen platfrom.

I don't see texture loading going anywhere, that said, this game visually looks like pure shit. I would have delayed it because 720p with framerate dips is just pathetic. I know this game doesn't have loading times, and there are a ton of zombies and destruction on screen but still....

DR3 on that GIF above looks and works far worse than current gen GTA V.....
If this is "future proof next gen" then i'm quit with console gaming.....

But no :) There still is WiiU and PS4 for God's sake!

I'm confused, wasn't there a bunch of "fps is solid" previews/impressions at TGS? Was that just a BS demo?

http://www.vg247.com/2013/09/25/dea...s-should-stop-freaking-out-about-frame-rates/

“People have noticed, I’ve seen articles hit the web just last week when we were at Tokyo Game Show, from our Gamescom build to our Tokyo Game Show build. It is similar content, and a similar area of the world so people who saw it at Gamescom and saw it at Tokyo Game Show were like ‘oh shit they weren’t lying, they actually did optimise everything, and the framerate is totally solid now’, and we’re like ‘See? We’re not done, we’re still working on it! Give us a break, there’s two more months till we come out! We’re human beings too! We have feelings too!’”

Will be interesting to see if the framerate affects the reviews. Dips into the 20's seems like it's going to really bother some reviewers.

Framerate are considered big part of fun.

Not really, or we'd be saying half of last gen's games weren't fun. I had fun with State of Decay and The Last of Us.

Did you not enjoy them?

SoD had a horrid framerate (granted it was an Indie game), and TLoU struggled to hold 30fps.

Both were zombie games that I enjoyed. Both dropped into the mid-20's or worse at times (especially SoD).

I don't equate framerate to fun unless it makes a game literally unplayable.

Note...no excuses here, just saying framerate does NOT = fun for everyone.

That whole area is fucked.

dat framerate.

Lets hope a healthy patch is incoming. I'm waiting to see if that happens. I'll pick the game up for $20 later if not.

On a side note, if the ultra sharpening filter really is a part of Microsoft's scaler, that's another awful blow for the console. It's perhaps one of the worst examples of scaling I've seen in a modern media device. Awful. As in, laughably awful. Literally just looks like someone stretched a 720p image to 1080p, and then added 1000% sharpness in Photoshop.

That because the clueless thought this was a good thing on the X360. They'll tell you how games *pop* on the X360.

Yikes, this one is in real rough shape. Looks fun, and that's what matters most, but man, you can't help but be disappointed with the visual performance. If the game dips into that 10-20fps range though, that'll kill gameplay, thus killing the fun. Crazy.

Definitely needed far more time in the oven. Certainly not giving the xb1 a good image at launch.

I don't get how you go from saying you have a locked 30 to having it get below 20. I could understand if it dipped just below 30 here and there but that's far from the case.

I'm good above 25 fps. Once something dips regularly below that, I am not good at all. This, at least in the outside areas, isn't 'struggling to hold 30 fps'. It's rarely ever reaching 30 fps in these videos.

Look at those two gifs. What in those gifs do you see that justifies < 25 fps. I don't see thousands of zombies. I do see the framerate go below 20 when the car hits a traffic barrel. I do see a texture and a bunch of pipes slowly fade into existence about the time the car starts reversing away from them.

It's a completely false equivalence.

Did they keep you guys in a certain area or certain level?

It was down-town, at night. While I didn't check, it didn't appear as though there were any restrictions on where you could go, but again, I didn't check nor did I really think to. I was enjoying the demo too much and was in a state of shock at how smooth it was...

Gotta get those launch window sales I guess.

What else can you be but negative when you get 16-20 fps, 720p for a game on an apparently 'next-gen' bit of expensive hardware.

They should have been harsher.

What else are they supposed to use, harsh language? I don't see how their article can go any further than it did. If you're wanting something directed at the Xbox One itself, they'll probably do some sort of comprehensive article around launch.

Apart from the texture and assets loading delay, how does it look ''far worse'' than GTA5?

I'm glad they didn't waste unnecessary balance cycles on achieving 30 fps. No need for that. 720p @ 20 fps is the pinnacle of gaming experiences that all games should strive for.

That because the clueless thought this was a good thing on the X360. They'll tell you how games *pop* on the X360.

Except the 360 scaler was never like this. Only the gamma curve was messed up. The sharpening filter is new on xbox one and i wish they would take it out.

I was actually jealous Xbox One had this as a launch title when I had no intention of buying one. Thanks Capcom this looks like the biggest technical turd at next gen launch, although Ryse's gameplay looks worse.

Well there were people here on neogaf who thought that looked good(in the bf 4 thread) together with the atrocious color balance/gamma. It pops, looks vibrant etc.

I find it much more awful that some people actually like it :)

See for me, the beauty of PS4's super easy development is that less technically talented teams will be able to more easily squeeze greater performance out of their games.

Bummed about this one thing about what it could have been.

I thought that Major Nelson or Penello or both said that Microsoft was able to help Capcom and now the frame rate was 30fps locked :P
