PS Vita TV JP Import Thread | There's still a life after OLED

IMPORTANT: As of now, you can't log in with a US/EU account.

With the arrival of the Vita TV on Nov. 14th in Japan, I figured that it'd be a good idea to make a thread where importers can share their impressions and curious people can ask about it.

Where can I get one? - If you have other sites to suggest, go ahead!

Importers - If you're getting one, post here so I'll add you to the list.

FAQ
  • Q: What's this?
A: The Vita TV is basically a normal Vita with a HDMI output and the screen stripped out. It plays retail Vita games, digital PS1, PSP and Vita games and PS4 games via Remote Play. It supports the DualShock 3 and 4 controllers (though DS4 support might only be patched in after launch).
  • Q: Do I need the overpriced memory cards for this or has it got some internal memory?
A: Like the Vita-2000, it's got 1 GB of internal memory, which is enough for your savestates if you're going full retail, but not really much if you're interested in downloading your games from the PS Store.
  • Q: What resolution does it output at?
    A: It supports 480p, 720p and 1080i.
  • Q: How do I use touchscreen functionality with a DualShock 3?
A: According to this article, pressing L3 or R3 brings up a pointer which can then be moved around.
  • Q: Which games are supported?
A: The japanese site has a list of supported games here. Unsupported games will not run on the system.
  • Q: Are retail games region-locked?
A: No. For example, you can play your US copy of Persona 4 Golden on your Vita TV.

I had one preordered from the day preorders went live, but cancelled it last week.
Maybe I'll buy it later for the Kiseki games.

Was really tempted to import one when Amazon.jp restocked but ended up passing after looking at what I'm already picking up this holiday. Hopefully when it comes out in NA it will have gotten support for the DS4.

I'm looking forward to impressions from those who do end up getting one.

Somebody please try Joysound with a US IP!

Hoping one of my friends are going to Japan this winter so I can just pay the real price...

I've been so off an on about getting one. On one hand, it seems really cool. I'd mainly use it for remote play with the PS4. Plus Soul Sacrifice on a TV sounds awesome.

On the other hand, a PS4 remote play doesn't look like it'll be supported until around February when it releases in Japan.

I'm thinking I should hold off.

While I won't be getting one at launch I'm tempted to pick one up down the line once certain games release for the Vita. I'm curious if the thing a) supports multi-region accounts, even in the broken fashion the regular Vita does and b) has HDCP encryption on the HDMI out.

All I need to know is whether or not the O and X swap can be altered. If it works the same as a Vita TV would anywhere else, I'll buy it.

I want to hit that order button but I only have a 16GB memory card. What should I do? I don't know if I feel like paying for a 32GB or 64GB card and I'm certainly not going full physical.

Let me tell you that being an owner of a 64GB card, that shit fills up FAST.

Getting one as an early birthday present. Not to confident on all my EU games working but I have a few imports so it wont be completely useless.

Granted its in Japanese you might want to include a link to the list of PS Vita games it does support.

I didn't include it yet because I wanted to wait for confirmation on what "supported" actually means. The list just shows some titles which don't use the touch controls much and will be perfectly playable without them, but I doubt that titles not in the list won't work.

This article here explains how you can use touch controls even with a DS3, even though it won't always be ideal and needs some tinkering. If other titles wouldn't work, this functionality would be quite useless.

jeez, the markup on some of those sites is a bit steep. I'd like one, but not for $200-250.
Yeah, Play-Asia is pretty expensive, nin-nin is reasonable though.

I have the Value Pack pre-ordered . The main question is when will I get it?

Supported means it will work out of the box without having to screw around with things most folks wont know about from the get go Id say.

Thankfully a lot of games these days have been ditching the unnecessary touch controls so future titles should not be as much of an issue with devs having to take the PSVTV into account now. Of course that all depends on how huge of an attach rate it gets, so will have to wait and see for the sales numbers on that, which will hopefully be reported by media create.

If anything larger devs would be patching in support for the PSVTV where now with the L2 / R2 shoulder buttons it can replace having to tap the left or right of the screen. Games that use the flick motions or tapping the middle of the screen etc Id see being more problematic. At least from that link seems like some sort of functionality is there, but how well it will work guess will have to find out when its released. D:

What games in particular are you guys looking forward to playing on your TV?

For me it's Uncharted Golden Abyss. I wanted to like it, but I just couldn't get used to aiming properly with the Vita's joysticks. I'm hoping using a DS3 will make it feel more like a console UC in terms of control. EDIT: Also Soul Sacrifice.

My real concern is the games that need a patch like Persona 4 Golden, i'm not sure they patch the western versions.

Uncharted isn't compatible.

Nippon-yasan don't seem to be marking up too much. Not available right now though. No idea if they are just waiting for release or out of stock or what but maybe worth checking back on the 14th.

Value Pack

Bought my Vita 2000 from them. Good site.

Nice, if they start carrying it I could see myself importing a standard one (assuming they ever get stock and the price doesn't magically jump, of course)

Looks like mine just shipped from Amazon! If I'm lucky and my forwarder handles it quick-like there is an outside chance I might get it on Saturday...crossing fingers.

Also, good exchange rate currently. Value Pack charged my card $141 (14,216 yen). I reckon another $40 for EMS and handling.

I ordered mine from NCSX.com It was $136 which seemed like a good deal since I was only seeing the value pack at Play Asia for $239. Hopefully they get it a day early and maybe I'll get it the same day as my PS4.

this thing is region free right?

Hope so, if I can change the language and by all means make it look and act exactly like my NA Vita, then I'll pick it up. I have a suspicion that if it's ever released here they'll only do it in black.
