With the poor reception of the launch lineup, and potentially some technological issues, I'm glad I didn't jump in at launch. This is really worrisome.
Yes.Did you read the OP?
It's a Taco Bell prize package...
Oh hurray we're all early BETA testers again!
God I hate launches -_-
This, people, is why you wait to buy new consoles if you do not feel the urge to get it on Day 1. Faulty units are always around but you will never know how widespread it is until after a few months.
Okay, okay, okaaaYY (Joe Pesci's Lethal weapons tone) I admit it was pulled by the hair. It's just that I can't understand people entering panic mode because of 3-4 faulty unit reports. that's all
Sorry to hear that bud make sure they give you some compo free game or somethingAfter playing a brief game of NBA 2k14 I quit and inserted my battlefield 4 disk. The system prompted for an update, so while watching the progress bar (Around 20%) my controller light turned from blue to white. Hasn't worked since...
Get those extended warranties ready! and SCEA on speed dial!
**UPDATE**
Went thru a number of "fixes" with customer service and none of them worked. They are shipping me a box to get the unit serviced.
Safe Mode on the console no longer works.
**UPDATE** 2
For shits and giggles, swapped the hard drive for a fresh one, that also didn't work.

I'm bad at stats but you're bad at assumptions : 3-4 faulty units are not a big enough number to raise a "legitimate" concern about a faulty batch
My point is that a software issue can potentially affect more people and at different times. A hardware issue is more likely to present itself immediately. You can't fix hardware either. Considering lots of people have downloaded and installed the software and upgraded their firmwares without issues I don't think it is a massive software issue.
However, it does seem that 2 (or 3?) of the ones with issues all came from the Taco Bell batch. Whether this is the same batch of consoles as retail, no one knows.

Wow, glad you cleared that up man. You ever think about getting into fortune telling professionally?

Then dont need the reason to freak out over launch , after a year warranty maybe but no need to freak out now

It seems like all of NeoGAF disagrees.
I'd say the clearest image will be on Monday, after people would've played continuously through the week-end.1-2 reports out of countless reviews and systems in the wild is pretty good I'd say. Friday we'll know for sure.
hehe anyone remember the first Pentium chips??Every product that launches is a beta test. The less complex, the less likely they are to break.
Should have seen how big a pain in the ass Ncomputing's M300 boxes were at launch. Took almost a year to get them to be properly stable.... not a good thing when the only solution is unplug and plug back in 6-12 times per day.
Nether buy an electronic product at launch then...
You really think Sony as a hardware company would let the failure rates even come close to that of the 360?

You really think Sony as a hardware company would let the failure rates even come close to that of the 360? Comn son' use your brain, Microsoft knew what they were doing releasing defective consoles out in the wild, it was strategic for timing, but no way in hell would Sony ever green light a decision like that.
The batteries in question, made by Sony Corp., are in notebooks shipped between April 1, 2004, and July 18 of this year.

PS1, 2, 3, Vita launch.
SNES, N64, GC, Wii launch.
360 Launch unit.
Never had any of these platforms break within a year minus the E74(?) error on my ELITE.
All launch day buyers are beta testers, smart buyers wait until the next year for a newer revised version.
Still free is free, Sony better send you a brand spanking new one with some extra freebies for your troubles.

Meanwhile, some gaming sites continue their marathon PS4 live streams, some for 12 hours straight, without any "technological issues."
