This stream is depressing as hell.

Someone is working overtime at Sony. Engineers surely have to have a way for this to be fixed by the user. Seems like the update is bricking the consoles somehow.

This is why I will never buy a launch console. Let them get the kinks out after a revision. Will have a price drop then, not to mention better games out.

Not really surprised - Microsoft went the ultra safe route with having the power brick outside it again this gen; Sony made it look more appealing by not doing that but also probably increasing the chances of it bricking at some point.

We already have 5 broken consoles and it hasn't even officially launched yet. I'm starting to panic because if this is too widespread it will put Playstation down for good.

There is also a big factor people have to take note of. In 2006 the internet was not as big. Facebook, twitter, reddit or other social media were in their infancy. In 2006 these 4 people would not be able to vent their rage to millions of people. These small cases can become front and centre nowadays where they wouldn't be before.

What happens if you try to boot without a hard drive?

Do they have any firmware bootstrap stuff going on? Maybe if someone popped a new drive in it would work.

Anyone who has been proclaiming 'SonyGAF' should read this thread.

Sony have a lot of goodwill, but they also have a lot of goodwill to lose. I think this thread has shown that people are quite willing to 'turn' on Sony. And having as many defective consoles from the type of people who visit NeoGAF, Reddit, or can operate a livestream (which is a small sample of the total amount of consoles in the wild), is worrying, particularly as the consoles haven't even gotten a day of usage yet.

We'll have to see more, but I don't know what this means for the 6-month viability of the hardware. Hopefully nothing. Hopefully it's mostly software.

Just wanna remind everyone that my taco bell ps4 is fine after over 5 hours of use.

Glad to hear some positive news.

The only really fucked up thing if you get a bad unit Friday is the fact that they will sell out and your are screwed getting a replacement from a retailer. While you can get it replaced via Sony, the sick feeling of waiting so long for your new console and now you have to wait for Sony to receive/ship a new one.

This is the one thing about launch consoles, aside from the Wii U since they never sold out and they were easy to get a replacement if needed.

You guys may think that I am insane for doing this, but I have 2 reserves at 2 different retailers for both the Xbox One and PS4 to cover my ass just in case. I am one of the older gaf members and been through receiving defective electronic devices in the past, so knowing that I had been waiting for a long time for both systems, I wanted to cover my ass "just in case". I mean, shit happens and I understand that as a consumer, but when shit happens on launch day and the items is hard to find, I learned to make back up plans just in case.

He couldn't turn it off so he pulled the power cable out.

(He was also downloading a F2P game at the point when he pulled it)
Interesting... OP was downloading a patch when it happened.

The guy in the stream kept saying "Standby Mode" over and over again. Do we have confirmation this is what the pulsing blue light represents?

There are people in this thread that are foaming at the mouth with excitement at the possibility of there being a problem with PS4, and that's fucking sad.

There is no way after RROD that either of the platform holders are putting out boxes that they haven't tested the shit out of.

If anything is causing problems it'll be 1.5fw. I simly wont believe that anyone would put out a box that dies after a few hours play in a post RROD console landscape.
