This is fucking ridiculous, Sony seems to have lost all the momentum gained since the reveal in such a short time.

Oh just wait. If Sony who seemed to be as ready as you can possibly be this gen is having these problems, I can't wait to see what's coming up next week.

Nintendo and Sony had launch hiccups. There's no way with all the news surrounding MS's rush to launch that they're going to have a flawless victory.

But this kind of shit definitely turns me off on console launches if this is how it's going to be from now on.

There is also a big factor people have to take note of. In 2006 the interent [sic] was not as big. There was no facebook, twitter, reddit or any social media. In 2006 these 4 people would not be able to vent their rage to millions of people. These small cases can become front and centre nowadays where they wouldn't be before.

LOL, this is literally the most misinformed post I've EVER read on GAF.

People, don't forget that a 1% failure rate is kinda industry standard, so unless this is going really big on the weekend, I wouldn't worry ... too much... for now.

So what was involved when the 5 consoles got bricked? was it all due to bf4 or whatever?
For reference all I have done so far

plugged in everything /setup
downloaded update 1.5 over wifi, installed, restarted console etc
Put in psn info/signed in
checked the ps store
played knack for about 2 hours
downloaded crunchyroll
watched some stuff
played more knack
tried vita remote play(it works ok, framerate was kinda ehh on knack)
in total I have turned off the console 3 times, and have yet to use the standby feature.

Maybe Sony gave Taco Bell all of the early PS4s that have issues, that's why they were given away.

I'm sure things will be fine. I only remember the 360 bricking, don't remember anything bad about the PS3 launch.

Except people getting mugged and shot.

What?

I think Sony should be praised for at least trying to make a sleek looking console, fwiw. We'll see how it performs. Don't think a few consoles bricking now is a huge cause for concern.

Banned?

I think if anything this guy should be praised.

On topic, though I find it funny because fanboys have made me hate everything about Sony and Microsoft, I sincerely hope this isn't indicative of a larger problem. I would hate for people who are honestly excited to have to deal with another rrod scenario. Additionally I'd like to buy both systems, once a few details have been sorted out, and not have to fear if I maybe got one of the whatever percent might rrod-analogue on me.

If safe mode does not work, I'm guessing there is nothing else to do ? I mean, what can you do except unplug it and call Sony, maybe someone tweet out Adam Boyes or something idk... but this is getting me bummed out for the launch, I really hope I don't have any of these problems (knock on wood)

Has anyone told him to go into safe mode and then reinstall FW 1.50 via Recovery Option ?

If you're talking about that Twitch.tv guy, he has the webcam at the worst possible angle, and seems to be incapable of following simple instruction. Also, the chat moves too fast and is filled with too many joke posts to really help.

It seems that BF4 is doing it, it's not totally confirmed yet.

Listen, if this failure rate starts blowing up within a week or so after launch when shit loads of people have one... then worry. Until then, it's just a few units.

The Twitch guy wasn't able to get any kind of picture to show up on his TV. So it may be a dead HDMI slot or some shit.

Actually, sorry if this was asked already, but do we know how many PS4s were given away? I feel like if this was a major issue, people who got an early PS4(ex: Francis) they would of said something by now.

This is the type of shit that dreams are made of.

Okay, the guy on Twitch basically admitted he pulled the power plug while downloading the game. He has it booting to safe mode, and still won't try and download the fucking patch to a USB to try and fix the problem.

It's basically his only hope and he's ruled it out. Infuriating.

Most people who bought consoles on launch day in 2006 were probably very active on the Internet

I believe the ps4 doesn't have a sleep mode.
Not yet, very true. I wonder if parts of the standby code are already in the system, and are somehow being triggered by whatever these guys are doing?

Assuming that's Standby mode (which makes sense, as the light is blue, which would seem to indicate everything is "okay"... it has red and other colors that you'd think would be more suitable to errors), this sounds like a firmware problem.. something is triggering a feature that shouldn't be there yet, and because it's not fully implemented, there's no way for the user to properly wake the system back up.

If Sony's able to figure out what this is based on the symptoms, it's possible there may be a 1.51 update available by Friday that will prevent it from occurring.

There's two confirmed instances of it occurring during a download, and one of them was a forced interruption by the user. Did the OP have a power flicker or anything that triggered this? If that's what's triggering it, I'm buying my ass a dedicated UPS for the system tomorrow.

I'm betting if you swap the drive it will work.

Something in the boot process seems to be getting corrupted.
