Also I wasn't clear either, the system didn't brick on the system update. That went very smooth, as far as I could tell.

It appeared to brick while the system was downloading a update for battlefield 4.
Ok, so it was the BF4 update that bricked your system...

This guy has been streaming for hours and hours.

If people can just remember that this is a new HW launch in 2013 with social media and GAF in sensitive mode then your expectations should be tempered.

Nothing in dev regarding consoles or controllers has come up. Don't expect a 0.00000000000 failure rate. Get some common sense and rationality here instead of the drive by trolling and passive aggressive defending and attacking of the situation.

man still can't believe that all that is coming straight from someone's PS4, and this is something that's available for everyone to do.

who's arguing? I'm just saying it's worrying to start hearing these things before the thing is even officially out when you have one pre-ordered.

No its not worrying for the exact reasons I mentioned in the first post you quoted. It would be statistically impossible for this not to happen sooner or later. People have started receiving them and people will report failures, that simple.

Well i'm sorry for your first time with the PS4 but at the same time i'm rather relieved to wait another two weeks to see the eventually launch bugs squashed for the european launch.

\And I'm not a warranty guy at all, all my apple products don't have apple care/+, nor my flat screens. But this left a bad taste in my mouth.

Get those extended warranties ready! and SCEA on speed dial!

Not trying to say having the system die on you doesn't suck, but starting out your thread with that kind of comment seems awfully trollish. Especially if it was the BF4 patch that caused the brick.

I don't know man. First the controller breaks down fast. Then some consoles have defective HDMI ports. And now the console is prone to brick during updates.

Sony better not eff this up

I was in the middle of the prologue for Killzone Shadow Fall when my PS4 decided to shut itself off. Couldn't even eject the disk and my Dualshock 4 started making beeps.

Then, my fantasy ended and I was awake. Now I'm mad that I don't even have a PS4 to begin with. Damnit Sony!

Why are you so defensive about whether or not people who haven't received PS4s yet get worried when they hear about failures? Get over yourself. I understand how statistics work and know there will be failures. I also know that not every time a failure is reported it will mean mine will fail.

Conversely, I have been through several situations where products I bought had vastly-greater-than-normal failure rates. It's human nature to worry. Stop running damage control about people being worried.

The amount of hysteria in here over one incident (or a few across the internet) seems crazy.

Obviously it's a concern, obviously if we have dozens of reports cropping up we have a bad situation on our hands. However, did anyone actually expect there to be ZERO faulty consoles?

If this thread is any indication, the first Xbox One "problem" thread is going to be....messy.

I've been pretty critical of xbox one even though I'm getting one but I know better than to pile on some isolated incidents like what's happening here. Some of the logic people are applying to this stuff is just mind blowing. That guy that said there's probably only 100 PS4's out in the wild and 3 of them are broken. Jesus.

My god if you're this much of a panic freak then just cancel your pre-order.

I should get over myself? I'm not the one spreading FUD saying that it "feels" like the 360 RROD because of a couple of defective units.

OK now I know you're either a joke character or an astroturfer. I'm not spreading FUD. I even specifically started that I understand that there's a good chance that it's perfectly normal.

People worry. Get the fuck over it.

I made a rational argument replying to overreactions and you replied with a "feeling" about what will happen. You specifically said that while you agree you have the sinking feeling that the same was said about the RROD fiasco. When I tried to explain that your feeling isn't above statistics you told me to get over myself.

I don't know what's the name of the fallacy you're using but there should be a name for it. "Look, I agree that Obama is probably not the devil but I have a sinking feeling that he secretly rules Hell from his White House lair, I've seen it before in the Bible" <--- This contributes nothing to a discussion and allows people to talk out of their asses ruining every discussion about any possible issue.

Some people just rely on truthiness for their arguments.

Will let you folks beta test PS4 hardware. While I hoard free PSN+ games, by the time I get a PS4 next year I'll have a backlog of PSN+ games which means I don't need to buy a game for a long time as well as hopefully have all the hardware and software issues resolved.

After playing a brief game of NBA 2k14 I quit and inserted my battlefield 4 disk. The system prompted for an update, so while watching the progress bar (Around 20%) my controller light turned from blue to white. Hasn't worked since...

Get those extended warranties ready! and SCEA on speed dial!

**UPDATE**
Went thru a number of "fixes" with customer service and none of them worked. They are shipping me a box to get the unit serviced.
Safe Mode on the console no longer works.

**UPDATE** 2

For shits and giggles, swapped the hard drive for a fresh one, that also didn't work.

Why would you even say that? Unnecessary spreading of the FUD.

There is a ton of hype happening right now; it is boiling over and this thread is the place to go apparently.

That's one way to look at it haha

I can't wait to get my hands on and get in on the hype train for Xbone next week.

Very impressed by the system so far based on the videos posted today.

This sucks for the original OP... but how many defective units are there? What, 4 in 4000 so far? What's that as a percentage?

Seriously, 20+ pages on this non-drama? At least wait 'til after the launch....

Didn't the news today say you have to have a PS4 to login to the PS4 PS+ store? Don't think you can hoard PS+ games early.

I used to work as a product design engineer. There are going to be failures in every product and trust me you want those failures close to the time of first use for the product. Because that points to an assembly line fault on a single unit. You do not want units dying month 4/5 or later because that points to a design issue.

This is the LAST fucking thing I want to hear. Oh hell no. My condolences, OP.

Oh shit. Please, Jesus, don't let this happen.

Reading this thread makes me unnecessarily paranoid.

Just so I can close this thread and never look at it again, the reported failures are all within well expected failure rates for new hardware, right? This isn't some 23% failure rate like the 360, yes?

What's the fucking worry anyway? All consoles come with free 1 year Sony guarantee.

People worry because they'd have to ship it away or return it and wait weeks for a new one.

Apple always has spare iPads and iPhones in case of an initial defect. This won't be the case with game consoles.

Thankfully Sony isn't Microsoft, the failure rates won't be remotely close to how shitty the XBOX 360 was at launch.

Let's not be hasty. We'll know by Friday how widespread any issues are with PS4. And a little over a week from now with Xbone. Right now it's just a few PS4's....that number may grow a lot or just a little.

I'll be the first to admit the 360 failures were pretty damn high. I think I went through 6 or 7 units before I finally got one that wouldn't shit itself.

I don't think we're going to see anything on that order though with the Xbone or PS4....but I could be wrong. I would like to think they both know that this time around that it's game over for either company if there's widespread hardware issues. People just won't be as forgiving this time around. Times are different in so many ways. Especially how stories spread with social media that wasn't there at the launch of last gen.

Hope it works out for everyone no matter what console you're getting.
