WHAT!?!?

But it Can't boot into recovery mode, did you even attempt to read the OP or any of the forum posts??
Last post I saw you were into safe mode or recovery mode or whatever it is called.

Forgive me since the forum is acting up. Also this would be better if you could upload some videos as well.

Hah, nice.

And apparently the guy on reddit won't even get an overnight box, instead they're going to call him in a "few days" about sending him a new one. That's a pretty weak contest prize.

LOL no because most people probably aren't all over social media posting about it. So you'd have no idea if it's larger.

Far as I can see, people feel it necessary to report wobbling.
I bet they would bloody splatter it all over facebook and say its the worst thing since WW2.

Im not getting a box overnight either, sucks too. I will get the box either saturday or monday.

then the time to send it back, then for them to send it back. Im selling it once it gets back verified working.

You would expect a failure rate of 5-10% to be honest. Not all day 1 failures obviously, but over the life of the console. Apparently the PS3 had a 10% failure rate within 2 years of purchase. Just food for thought. My credit card adds a year of warranty on to whatever Sony offers so I should be good to go.

Old article, but still covers the launch years of the consoles.

We should really make a next Gen hardware failure thread where everyone can report their miserable time experience and how to fix them if possible.

So, 4 units reportedly broken for more than 4000 thousands in the wild

So that's.... 0.1% failure rating...

Am I calculating this right ?

You must be bad at statistics. Just because 3,996 people aren't talking about it doesn't mean it's not happening to them.

It seems like a legitimate concern that the initial shipment is faulty. For everyone's sake, I hope the launch batch is good to go.

This why I'm not interested to being early adopter.

OP should just keep them boxed and flip it online for 800 bucks.

Are you taking note of model/revision numbers in case it is relevant?

Would hope that any problems are "batch" related vs a systemic issue with all systems.

That is a shame. I hope the failure rates for these systems don't come close to the previous gen.

No, not even close. It's 4 units you've heard of. You have no idea how many are failing.

Great job till now.
Now go contact the other 3996 people and report back to us.

Stuff like this is so stupid, we have no idea yet if this is a thing or not, but saying .1% failure rate is stupid. How many haven't been used? How many haven't been reported? How many have been reported, but not recognized yet. We'll find out in the next week or so if this is a problem.

Okay, okay, okaaaYY (Joe Pesci's Lethal weapons tone) I admit it was pulled by the hair. It's just that I can't understand people entering panic mode because of 3-4 faulty unit reports. that's all

Must remember not to push my PS4 constantly with my finger. It's almost as if Sony designed the product to be left alone on a surface.

As for the faulty units, let's hope the failure rate is low but hey, if you Google the word 'faulty' and the name of any electronic product, expect hits.

Yeah it really sucks for the OP and anyone else affected. Hope you get it sorted!

Hopefully isolated to a few people and not widespread. This sort of thing happens with all new hardware launches nowadays, unfortunately. Wonder what treats Xbone's bone's launch will hold?

Not sure why they took the link down on the reason it moves in a wobbling manor when pressed down. Its not that its a wobble its basically a tripod.

3 rubber feet placed in the position that makes it sit on 3 legs.

Cant find video that shows it clear. so dont press down on it and it will be fine.

Its a simple flat tripod.

Take note of the serial before you send it in - see if the same one gets returned or they give you a different console.

People keep talking about failure rate of hardware. But this sounds like a different problem. Software/firmware issues that can't be fixed by the end user. Which could be worse. Way too early to tell, but let's stop writing this off because of some failure rate stat.

Sorry to hear about that man, that truly sucks. If I had received a defective unit (and who knows, maybe I will), I'd be enraged. I wouldn't take it well at all.

I hope this isn't going to be a common problem among early PS4 models.

That really sucks OP. Hope you have better luck with the new one.

Btw, thanks for giving me something to worry about come the 29th
jk... kinda ;)

Sucks op hope things work out. Mine is working fine after 3 hours and 25 minutes of use, played knack and downloaded crunchyroll, for what its worth I immediately connected to wifi when asked and installed 1.5 update.

I'm bad at stats but you're bad at assumptions : 3-4 faulty units are not a big enough number to raise a "legitimate" concern about a faulty batch

After playing a brief game of NBA 2k14 I quit and inserted my battlefield 4 disk. The system prompted for an update, so while watching the progress bar (Around 20%) my controller light turned from blue to white. Hasn't worked since...

Get those extended warranties ready! and SCEA on speed dial!

**UPDATE**
Went thru a number of "fixes" with customer service and none of them worked. They are shipping me a box to get the unit serviced.
Safe Mode on the console no longer works.

**UPDATE** 2

For shits and giggles, swapped the hard drive for a fresh one, that also didn't work.

Thanks for the update! Hope you get taken care of man! Good luck!

From what i gather some people have reported hardware problems on their brand new PS4's?
FFS Sony you're a hardware company..

Excuse me if I missed something, I just popped up in this topic.

I was chuckling pretty hard to this. I assume those people who won don't find this funny.

At the same time I hope this is just an issue with Taco Smell mishandling them. Or just a small incident. This does tend to happen with new console launches. It's like being a foot soldier on the front lines of a battlefield. There's a good chance you're just gonna get shot by a stray bullet.

There were a lot of issues like this with the WiiU launch as well, so it just seems like growing pains each system has to go through. My WiiU did lock up a few times, but after probably the second OS update it hasn't hard locked since.

You can't fix hardware either. Considering lots of people have downloaded and installed the software and upgraded their firmwares without issues I don't think it is a massive software issue.

However, it does seem that 2 (or 3?) of the ones with issues all came from the Taco Bell batch. Whether this is the same batch of consoles as retail, no one knows.

Lots of people reporting that they are receiving their Taco Bell units. So far, no additional reports of problems beyond the four we have now.

Early life failures in complex electronics are unavoidable in reasonable numbers.

e.g a few in millions of shipped units is going to happen.

If we have a lot of gaffers reporting issues - different story, but doubt that will happen....
