IGN's on their defective PS4 [Up: Sony - less than 0.4% of shipped units affected]

Strangely enough, today my phat PS3 blu-ray drive starting having issues, games would get stuck on loading screens and movies would stop playing after 10 minutes or so. Gotta buy a slim or superslim now.
Sorry it's a little off-topic.

Now I'm all extra nervous about my PS4 having issues!

Damn this keeps getting worse. I feel sorry for the people who open it up thinking their gonna get hours of gaming in. I know them feels. Even though Sony will rectify it swiftly you still have to wait a couple of weeks.

Forbes shouldn't be reporting on any video game related material at all.

What do they know? I'd take what they say anything video game related with a grain of salt

seriously? So you have to be a video game expert now to know when your console is broken?

tell me you were being facetious

I doubt that this will be a full blown issue, but the failure rate will definitely be higher than .4%. Still nothing to go crazy about though because unfortunately this is normal with launch the recent generations of consoles.

So am I right in saying that it's getting worse? I didn't say "oh shit failure rate 99%", I said it's getting worse. Which it is.

To be technical in those hours multiple people have gotten home and received their brand new PS4s and connected them, updated them and found them not to be bricked do it can be said in some ways that since that with more people who open their PS4 and connect it and update it and have find no issue the percentage goes down that the situation actually in some ways gets better.

of course not for those having the issue, and hopefully there is a solution found and it is not widespread but this Chicken Little stuff is just mind numbing[/spoiler

not necessarily. More units have been shipped so it could be getting better.

See, I just blathered on too long.

I understand that the more consoles shipped that aren't defective brings down the failure rate. What I'm saying is that when I left, only 8 consoles went bad and now it's 11.

Some people are just too defensive.

So by your logic this problem can and will only get worse since the number of bricked consoles is not going to go down. only up. Nice

Not defensive, I assure you (well I can only speak for myself)
Just trying to do what this little voice in my head tells me.

Relax man. Give it a day or so and we will see if it's really a big issue or not.

Also, if you are getting a launch day PS4, I'd recommend waiting before updating the firmware. Sometime firmware updates can brick consoles if they aren't handled appropriately.

Like you? This is absolutely nowhere near 'bad' levels of malfunction. Anyone who expects electronics to have 0% failure rate is an idiot.

Futureshop replaced my brothers dead ps4 so minus one for the launch line.

Apparently an employee walked by during the returner and said something like "wow another one, we might have to do a launch return event". It's possible the employee that made the crack might simply be following online but if he/she based it on them getting a handful of defect returns the day before launch that's very troubling.

Kotaku fixed their PS4
Just a bent in in HDMI port, Sony reps put it back down.
Ya'll overreact too much.

Agh... beat me to it! :)

Seems like a simple fix... and this could be the error in most of the consoles that people are having problems with (maybe the problem even as simple as the supplied HDMI cable being shoved in and bending the pins and not with the console itself, perhaps?).

I cant comment on half of those, most of those have not been reported here ........ a pastebin file by someone random is not a definitive source.
Shrugs, whoever is maintaining the pastebin is providing links to each instance. But, if you prefer lalalalala nothing to read here.

well I can guarantee I will be requesting a replacement if I'm retired to bend metal to make my ps4 work. some things I expect to work right out of the box without repair by me.

Cool, I'd rather just play my games asap then have to wait but thats your right
