dat million preorders...
They said millions of preorders (ww) so I was expecting something like this as long as they could meet them.
dat million preorders...
1 million in US alone? Wow, good signs for next gen!
Yeah, they gotta be thinking "maybe we didn't get enough cash for Titanfall" though.
Oh definitely.Of course, but however it shows that there are more enthusiasts now than ever before to support an insane launch success. It shows that given the right product and marketing, the console market is healthy enough to support new platforms.
It also shows that incompetence, arrogance and complacency will absolutely kill a product in this market. And while Sony has done it's soul searching after the PS3 launch, and the PS4 really reflects that re-thinking, Nintendo would be wise to do the same. Can they turn the WiiU around? Probably not, but they should take the lesson Sony so impressively demonstrated and apply it to their future endeavours.
Also, as far as mass market acceptance goes, the PS4 is probably the only next gen console that is priced right for the market. Unlike WiiU and Xbone it hits the sweet spot of what people are willing to pay and feel like getting value out of it.
if Microsofts money covers the development of Titanfall, EA couldn't give two fucks
I think you missed the point. When Sony is culling off studios like Studio Liverpool, it sends a clear message of where they see the future of gaming. Whether it's a bad thing or not totally depends on whether you like that vision of the future.
My canary in the hole for this is whether they turn Shadow of the Beast into a God of War clone or produce something more like Shadow of the Colossus.
I don't think we have day one numbers for most of them, and not for US + Canada anyway.
I have launch months for everything since the PS2 (but not the PS2), to closest 5K.
GBA (Jun '01) - 880K

Sir, yes, sir!
It will be REALLY interesting to see how Microsoft does next week. ..
Best start in PlayStation history or the best start ever in console history?
if Microsofts money covers the development of Titanfall, EA couldn't give two fucks
Wow congrats Sony. Here in Australia all PS4 stock is sold out until Christmas/2014. It's crazy. I've never seen this much hype for a console.

Again. It's a new world record for day 1. Period.

Is it possible?
if Microsofts money covers the development of Titanfall, EA couldn't give two fucks
I thought I read that MS bought the IP outright and they own Titanfall now. Was that debunked?
Wow, 1 million in 24hrs. Consumers have spoken.
I've generally found that the Playstation consoles tend to have the largest and most diverse libraries. I'm a little puzzled at your critique. Are you only judging them by the top ten best sellers or something?I think you missed the point. And? It's not about the name on the box, it's about the type of game it is.

EA is a company that bleeds money. They care, if they didn't then they would had taken MS moneyhats.if Microsofts money covers the development of Titanfall, EA couldn't give two fucks

They're gonna outsell Wii U this year easy.

Yeah, I walked past an EB yesterday and they were still advertising day-one stock for XBOne too. Wonder what the supply is going to be though.
Yeah just went to my local Harvey Norman store and their allotment for the PS4 is sold out til next year and they don't even bother to have a demo unit set up for it, however I do see an Xbox One demo unit setup. LolWow congrats Sony. Here in Australia all PS4 stock is sold out until Christmas/2014. It's crazy. I've never seen this much hype for a console.
May as we'll be the same thing given the size of the other marketsIt says freakin NA not USA!!!

Your post started out strong.. but it ended in a less than intelligent conclusion.
Tablets, like consoles, are going to be here for quite a while
I thought I read that MS bought the IP outright and they own Titanfall now. Was that debunked?
MS deal would cover lost profits that would be had on PS4. Unless the game fails, development would be covered by X % of X1 sales alone.if Microsofts money covers the development of Titanfall, EA couldn't give two fucks
They're going to miss out a lot of revenue, though.
Thats what the money covers. MS pays for the projected sales the copies of the PS4 version would make.
Now that we know that a lot of PS4's are being sold, projections may have to increase and future moneyhatting for other games will get more expensive.

also i think EA etc will be breathing a sigh of relief that the console market still exists in this way.
Nintendo may have had them worried (and ipad etc)
righto, here's the BIG question
how much of this can be put down to the ultra fuckup by Microsoft with DRM?
Europe should be able match 1M
So Sony having to shut down a fundamentally unprofitable studio is "a clear message of where they see the future of gaming"?
What are you on about? Sony's first-party studio's have been upping the ante the entire generation and there's no sign of them slowing down. Compared to Microsoft, this comparison gets even more laughable, and Nintendo's vision of the future of gaming also seems to sink like a rock. I'm not sure if i'm reading your post correctly here.
Those are US numbers. Typically Canada's sales are about 10% those of the US sales apparently, so it may be more like 910K US, 90K Canada. Although, with limited supply I don't know whether the ratio would be more stacked in the favor of the US much more. And their phrasing is actually "over 1 million."So in a space of a day they sold 5 times as much as their previous console did during its launch month. Wow.
