if you need anything other than gaf for your gaming forum needs you are doing it wrong.

GAF is way too focused on AAA and the general console side of the industry for me to stay here exclusively, too much stuff I'm interested in is overlooked or ignored. The SA gaming forums are a better place for PC content, and less shitposting all around.

I don't see any reason to complain about more games getting on Steam.

Eh, I wasn't complaining about that.

What I meant is that I always assumed Early Access was something useful for small devs who actually needs fundings as soon as possible to keep on working on their projects.

When I saw the Ubisoft name, it felt somewhat weird and... bitter.

what?

Toma and many others here in the steam thread have shown me so many amazing games I wouldn't have otherwise known about.

I would steer clear of the console threads and AAA game threads if it bothers you.

Looks at Oblivion, Skyrim, and Fallout 3....Bethesda is thriving and better than ever.

Looks at Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, most of Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age Origins, and Star Wars The Old Republic....Bioware seems alive and well to me.

Its all a matter of taste. You would obviously love the direction those developers have went in, I desire a much different game.

I wouldnt say they are better than ever, the majority of the great developers and writers have actually left both studios.
Thriving? Yes, both studios are now actively catering to the lowest common denominator and finding success.

And no one can objectively say that The Old Republic is a good game. Engine was broken on release, game looks horrible, and mechanics copied from a game released in 2004. TOR was a failed cash-in pure and simple.

Will they ever let us hide games on Steam in the same way Origin lets us? It's one feature I wish they'd copied, as it means I could tidy up my library and get rid of the Mac versions of Civ IV and the GTA trilogy, as well as betas for Red Orchestra and Left 4 Dead and stuff like that.

TOR was the best MMO ever in my opinion. I play games for the story, and games like WOW and Everquest always were pointless to me. I loved TOR.

Newegg is such a pain in the ass that you can't have a Billing Address and a Delivery Address that are different.

So, basically, you can't ever buy things for other people.

That's not true, I've bought many things online and shipped them to my APT, and my billing address is still my old house.

Anyone else having problems with the Steam inventory tab? It doesn't load sometimes (it doesn't appear in the inventory tabs), and now two of the coupons I got from the Huge Seal site disappeared.

Maybe they have a problem with International Billing Adresses or they changed it in the last years. A couple years ago I wanted to buy some memory modules here in Brazil and ship it to a friend in the US and I couldn't do it. They would literally not take my money, saying my billing address was different from the shipping address.

Occasionally, when listing cards on the Market, I'll get an error and, upon refreshing the page, find that the Steam tab is missing, but another refresh brings it back.

It's the 2nd worst MMO I've played behind DC Online. I don't play games, especially Bioware games, for their saturday morning cartoon caliber writing and the gameplay it offered was horribly stale. It was like playing WoW again but in 2005 when it still was in its most basic form.

Anybody interested in a Steam version of M&M6 ought to purchase this as it could very well become another Rayman 2 situation.

nvm: i made the mistake of Heroes of M&M

Thanks for pointing that out, would have passed me by otherwise. Part of me hopes it's not a Rayman 2 situation and that it ushers in the rest of the M&M titles :p

Saturday morning cartoon caliber writing? You are crazy man. Mass Effect 1, and 2, KOTOR, and TOR are some of the best writing and stories in gaming. Now WoW is what you call terrible. Always has been always will be. Not only is it a terrible MMO, it also gutted one of the best RTS series in history.

What is always interesting to me is when people say they play modern Bioware games for the 'story.' Are we even playing the same games? When I experience these games I would relate them to teenage-angst drivel, your typical C-level romance novel writing.

Seriously, if you want to experience a good story, go read a book. Or at least tell me you have played KOTOR II, I think they took the Bioware/Starwars formula and crafted a great story on the humanizing aspect, rather than just Black/White. To The Moon is another game that consistently gets praise for its storytelling.

I love you. You are my new favorite poster.

He is essentially the bizarro world version of myself or maybe even Derrick. Very interesting to see his posts.

The interesting thing about this particular opinion is TOR literally took all of its mechanics from WOW.

Never a dull moment when you post hlbk.

I beg to differ lol. Mass Effect has a really bland setting, not one bit of which is original and the actual story is just standard Bioware fare they perfected over the years: a bunch of stereotyped good guys saving the universe in a series of very much patterned missions. As KotOR, well, the same thing could be said about the story, only it's slightly better realized (with a couple of good twists) and the setting itself compensates for a lot of its shortcomings.

Yep, things are back to normal. For a moment I freaked out a little thinking Steam had screwed me over my coupons.

there is so much cool stuff in early access right now but I don't want to take the plunge and get frustrated by half baked functionality.

kingdom rise
http://store.steampowered.com/app/248630/

the mighty quest for epic loot
http://store.steampowered.com/app/239220/

grim dawn
http://store.steampowered.com/app/219990/

aerena
http://store.steampowered.com/app/247830/

and many many more... exciting times when these actually get released.

For those who are interested in actually playing The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot and don't care about an immediate steam entry (it's gonna be f2p anyway), there is a beta key giveaway at alienware.

You need an account there and of course the game itself needs a Uplay account.

Expect the worst when it comes to Ubi and you'll never be disappointed... nor pleasantly surprised. :p

I'm just talking in general. And I'm not bothered by it, it's just nice to have a change of pace and perspective after a while. It's like having a discussion with a group of people who primarily grew up with a SNES and Genesis', and then a group of people who grew up with MS-DOS and i486 PCs. Different interests, different tastes in games.

For example if I wanted a discussion on Wargame Airland Battle and Dominions 4, or older PC stuff like Ultima Underworld, I would not get very far here. But talking about Earthbound will give an instant 5 pages of responses. Different audiences, different interests, with GAF being more skewed towards console and AAA content. In general of course.

Oh, come on you guys are being unfair. BioWare writing may not be high literature but it is far more solid than 95% of what makes up videogame storytelling. They have been and still are pushing the medium forwards and that is commendable.

edit: and I really did not WANT Star Wars to be anything other than simple black & white morality plays. That is what Star Wars has always been, and it is part of its charm. It is simple, easily digestible, action-packed popcorn cinema. That is the reason I do not like KOTOR 2, it really isn't a SW story at all.

He misquoted you. He was talking to me. :p

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
