EA's Star Wars deal is 10 years long

Great, looking forward to DICE's and Bioware's Star Wars games.. Let's just hope that EA doesn't fuck this up.

Ten years should end up covering the new trilogy. I wonder if EA will make the movie: the game for each of those.

Probably good for 2-3 battlefront games if it sells well.

Well, I'll just go a gen without Star Wars games.

Looking back a gen, Force Unleashed had potential with the physics engines and premise, but unfortunately fell far short of what it could've been due to knuckleheaded design and shallow combat.

Looking forward a gen, I don't trust anything by Bioware since EA assimilated them, and after the disappointment that was BF3 and mess that is BF4, I don't understand how anyone could still praise DICE or harbor excitement for their work. Maybe Visceral could pull off something of note, but I'll wait two additional years for the complete edition of whatever they inevitably riddle with BS DLC and microtransactions... for $15 used.

BF4 is good... when it decides to work properly. I would assume eventually it will get ironed out. DICE has a history of rocky launches

Eh, I have a hard time getting upset considering we're going to get a DICE made Battlefront out of this deal.

And a potential Bioware KOTOR3 running on Frostbite? Oh boy...

This was such a bad idea by Disney. I like to think part of why past Star Wars games (NES to PS2/Xbox/Cube and PC games over those years) were so good and why people look back fondly on them for the most part was because games were made by different studios. There was a good amount of variety between the games from space sims/arcade to platformers to rpgs to shooters to adventure to an mmo and to rts. You'll never get that amount of variety or even close to it with EA being the only publisher/developer touching Star Wars.

EA is not my cup of tea, but people who are arguing that we are somehow going to get WORSE Star Wars games than what we have been subjected to the past decade need pass what ever the fuck they are smoking.

The fact that crap was made and the Wii never got a lightsaber game still bothers me.

Poor Nintendo.

If Super Mario 3D World does what Nintendo wants it to do, same with Mario Kart and Smash, I do have to wonder how Disney allows EA to ignore both the Wii U and 3DS. Especially once the movies start coming out and the history of Star Wars games on Nintendo hardware.

How could you be upset by this? At least we know we will actually be getting quality Star Wars games which is more than you could say about last gen.

That would have happened even without the deal. Now we won't be getting other 3rd party games for the sake of EA

Because EA is anti-consumer and their games aren't worth having exclusives: Look at the SWTOR Ilum fiasco, Battlefield 4 launch, Madden, Fifa, etc.

Can you imagine if they had an exclusive NBA license? The comparisons between Live and 2k says it all

Sure as hell won't get any better with EA milking and rushing titles to make up for buying a 10 year license

Also fuck Origin. No more Steam sales

Giving EA exclusive rights means there will be quality? Since when?

There is a disturbance in the Force after reading the length of this contract. 10 freaking years! So many other companies could have licensed SW and made various different games in that time.

As long as they make good games I don't really care.

I just don't want to see another madden situation.

Ten more years of shitty star wars games.

In comparison to what major publisher holding the license?

There hasn't been a great star wars game in about 10 years. Bioware arguably made the most well recieved star wars game. I don't think I'd let ubisoft or activision have the license...

How would we have gotten a DICE-made Battlefront game if the exclusive rights had been granted to another publisher? Just like with the NFL rights, gamers focus the blame on EA, when it was the NFL who put the rights up for bid. Should EA have stood by in either case and let another publisher walk away with the rights?

If EA put nothing on the 3DS then they are leaving money on the table. Kids love star wars, even clone wars crap. Lego Star Wars games always sold well on Nintendo systems.

Welp, KotOR 1 & 2 were basically the last cry of quality from the IP in the game space for me anyway.

Yeah, they may be able to ignore Wii U but I don't think they an responsibly ignore 3DS entirely. Not with a license like this certainly.

GAF has a serious lack of optimism. It all souds good to me, 10 years is at least one Battlefront game.

Didn't EA say at E3 that they wanted Battlefront on the three year cycle along with Battlefield and Titanfall? I thought I remember them saying to expect a sequel to those titles once every 3 years.

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
