Playing Journey through with my wife after listening to the podcast. Got to the snowy lands with the blizzards now. Such a beautiful game.

Spot on with Journey. Game of the generation, no question. Fucking masterpiece. Possibly better than Team ICO games, it was that fucking good.

I thought Journey was good, but for me, that's just kooky talk. ICO/SOTC are two of my favorite games of all-time. Journey was merely a good experience, not great. I'm obviously in the minority here- don't kill me! :p

Doubt you're really in the minority. Most people are still biased (I don't mean that in a bad way) towards lengthier/meatier games.

I loved Journey, and I love Flower, but I just can't vote for one of those in favor of a truly great game-game. Maybe it's unfair... but length matters, as does replay value. Perhaps some other game will change that.

EDIT: Come to think of it, it's hard for me to see a film, no matter how great, an equal of a truly great game. I say that with the full understanding the the film art form is far, far ahead of games when it comes to all the traditional storytelling values. Plainly put... 2 hrs non-interactive vs. N hours interactive => the latter tends to be memorable.

Hearing him tearing up near the end was really sad. You can really tell Journey moved him. It's always nice to hear people's experiences with the game, and how it relates to their own lives.

I am going post my top 10 in no particular order, and I want to be brutally questioned and criticised, okay?

BioShock 1
Ace Attorney (series)
Mario Galaxy
Xenoblade/Lost Odyssey (or whatever JRPG you want to put pretty much)
Street Fighter IV (series)
Modern Warfare 1 (Campaign)
Demon's Souls (not Dark Souls by a mile)
Portal
Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (Portable 2nd)
Oblivion/New Vegas (Perfection of open-world RPG, choose your setting basically)

What didn't make my list for small reasons:

Mass Effect Trilogy (awful ending ruined years of hype)

Halo 3, ODST, Reach, 4 (Halo is awesome, but Halo is Halo)

Saints Row 2/GTA (fun as hell but really, these games do nothing better than others, just a lot of it well)

Phantasy Star Universe (western release massively ruined)

Condemned (sequel was terrible, and this game was underdeveloped, otherwise amazing)

Forza 3/GT5 (best of these games possible, but generation after generation it incrementally gets better, never feels like a big jump)

LittleBigPlanet 2 (not enough space in the top 10, lol!)

Sonic Generations (not enough space in the top 10 either ;[ )

Guild Wars 1 (what generation is this technically?)

Too late, I disagree with you, so I'm on my way to your house with a hammer. I assume by your avatar you are in the merseyside area, so I will just knock on a few doors until I find you.

(As a junior member I'm not sure if it's ok to joke about murdering a fellow gaffer, please don't ban me if I have crossed a line, it was only a joke..............although I really am gonna kill him/her)

Lost Odyssey

Die in hell for your opinion!

Lost Odyssey defines mediocrity.

I don't want my time back from that game. I will give it that. And the short stories were nice, and the battle system was competent.

THAT'S IT THOUGH. Doesn't belong anywhere near a top 10.

Damn something got in my eye towards the end of the podcast...:/

I was really surprised he put Demon's/Dark Souls so high and above games like Uncharted 2 and TLOU.I would hazzard a guess and say that he has deeply regreted that he didn't managed to see the quality of Demon's Souls when he first played it and now he's determined to correct his wrong and make Demon's Souls 2 happen for PS4.Maybe i'm assuming things but this is what i want to think right now especially since there have been many rumours of this game being in development.

But really i love his taste for his top 3.

Shuhei knows his games and I'm pretty sure he knows everyone is hankering for Demon Souls 2 since they read all the forums... MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

I put this in here for one reason I need to justify. Personally, I loved Lost Odyssey. One of my favourite JRPGs ever. But you know why it's there?

I did a survey as part of my Media Studies coursework once upon a time (must have been a whole year after it's release, so baout 2009). I asked in a survey around the internet if any game gave you an emotion and which emotion was it?

Lost Odyssey came up with crying, over and over again. It was pretty much only Lost Odyssey that came up for the same thing twice next to maybe NG2 coming up for pure rage.

Honestly, Lost Odyssey isn't top ten for most people, the same way Xenoblade isn't top ten for most people. Neither will FFXIII or Tales of... But most people will have at least one of these JRPGs in their top ten for some sort of emotional reason.

I can believe that... but it can only be as a result of the short stories. Nothing else story-related in that game works.

Honestly, Lost Odyssey isn't top ten for most people, the same way Xenoblade isn't top ten for most people.

Err... not in the same way. Xenoblade is a pretty damned epic and well-executed JRPG. I think most JRPG fans would agree with that having played it. LO is just a mediocre throwback.

What an enthusiastic gamer- so enthusiastic that all of his favorite games are Playstation titles. At least other talking heads like Reggie, Phil Spencer, etc can praise games made on other consoles.

There are those who would say Nier is the best JRPG of this generation, being in that if you look past it having horrible budget it is pretty well-rounded.

But you know, I should probably just edit my list again because thinking back, now even I agree with you. The problem is the emotionally, LO did far more for me than most games for many years. Should have probably kept LittleBigPlanet 2 there instead huh?

He probably has not finished any of them.

According to his trophies:

1. Journey - Finished the game

2. Demon’s Souls/Dark Souls (tie for #2 and #3) - Finished Dark Souls and killed 8 demons in Demon's Souls

3. Demon’s Souls/Dark Souls (tie for #2 and #3)

4. The Last of Us - Finished on normal

5. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

6. Sound Shapes (Favorite PS Vita game) - Finished the campaign and 2 death mode levels (which lives up to its name)

7. Persona 4: The Golden

8. LittleBigPlanet - Completed the story mode

9. Grand Theft Auto V - At least played it.

10. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

So, he did play these games.

If you love Lost Odyssey so much I don't see why you need others to prove you its place in your own list. Even if the game is seen by most others as mediocre or so, it doesn't really matter. If it was emotional to you and it impacted you more than other games, it deserves to be on your list.

Wow... I'm surprised, how his list is somehow very similar to mine, counting Demon's/Dark Souls, Uncharted 2 and The Last of Us. Also, Im still at the begining, but already loving Persona 4 Golden.

He indeed have a good taste for games!

And Ive never played journey. Everyone talks so much about this game, that I believe Ill have to give it a chance.

So, he did play these games.

And don't forget he said that he has two different accounts one in the office and one at his home.

No! He must pay for his wrong opinion!

(NB: I criticized his opinion.)

The list isn't really a personal list. What I did was made a list with what I liked the most, then edited it to make it more accurate to the average person. For example, I would definitely put Sonic Generations over Mario Galaxy, but oh well.

JRPGs of this generation haven't been fantastic for anyone. But out of my brothers and friends, they all have their strong reasons for loving one specific game over the others. If we were talking two gens ago we would have to say Final Fantasy VII, but we don't have something like this in this gen.

Anyone who puts The Last of Us needs to think back to how long we have had this gen for...

Didn't even play half of those. GTA V should be higher it's REALLY good. Uncharted 2 deserves kudos for having one of the best stories I ever saw in a video game.

He says in the audio that it's there because he's only 3-4 hours into it.

Also if you haven't played half the games how do you know it's better?

I see...So you are trying to find a sweet spot between personal opinion and other people's opinion. Fair enough, though I'm afraid you'll have far too many polarizing opinions here on gaf to make it work.

To all the fanboy, disingenuous comments pull you're heads of of you rear end and do a tad bit of research.

Typical tiny brain gamer mentality.

It's the PLAYSTATION blog cast. It's games only on PLAYSTATION platforms. That's been their whole deal for the weeks they've been talking about their lists.

Grow up.

Yoshida owns two Wii U's (US and Japanese) due to region locking. How many people actually go that far so that they don't miss out on games?

Even more proof that Sony is the best!

I mean, if he owns the system then he's obviously a real gamer and he's going to be fair with his opinion. It's just that there was nothing worthy of the top ten from MS, Nintendo, iOS, etc!

It's the playstation blog cast, bro. Their lists have kind of all been based around the PS platform.

Do you expect Microsoft to go and announce TLOU as the game of the year or something?
