I'd also like to know this. For some reason kinect sometimes has difficulties recognizing me.

If it ain't recognizing you, just go to the manual sign in screen and select didn't recognize me, had to do it once, and now it has no problem picking me out from everyone else in the room.

This is what I had to do as well and this morning, when I turned on the Xbox, it automatically signed me in, and just now it automatically signed my brother in as he wanted to play Forza. It is pretty amazing when you get it to work.

How do Gestures work?

I had a small hand on screen yesterday for a bit but now it's nowhere to be found and I have yet to do any commands with hand gesture?

I know kinect works as the camera is seeing everything and I can play Rivals
Hold your hand out in front of you for about one second and it will appear on-screen. From there you can grab a point by closing your hand and pulling it left or right to drag the UI over and open your hand to let go. You can hold your hand over a selection and then move it toward the camera/screen to push it or activate it. On the main tile on your home screen, you can hold both of your hands out in front and outstretched to the sides, like your trying to catch or hug something large in front of you, then close your hands and bring your arms together in the center to close a full screen app or do the opposite to open it up to full screen. You have to be a bit deliberate the way you have to clearly annunciate your speech for Kinect voice commands.

By the way, the new controller is FIRE. Better than the original in every way. The light that emits from the guide button is so clean, clear, and sexy.

Thanks!

But oh man mine is janky as hell....hand is fluttering all Over the place and won't register

Is there a calibration up for that somewhere?

Edit
Just realized it may ne too dark in my tv room. I opened blinds and it worked....thought there was night vision on this thing?

Yeah, I think the main UI with motion control isn't exactly refined, but it's better than Kinect v.1. You should go into the settings (XBOX, go to Settings), choose Kinect, and try adjusting the angle or look into the camera height/placement. I had to mess around a bit more than I would have liked before it became much more consistent. Really, though, I think voice/controller is the best way for the UI until they get things more smoothed out with coming updates.

I have problems with the Xbox On voice command. once its up and running it has no problem umdertanding most of what i am saying, but Xbox On often takes me 3-5 repeats. Any speed I should be saying it?

Anyone else having this problem and perhaps solved it?

Occasionally, when watching TV/cable (Comcast Xfinity) the screen will go black from anywhere between 10-30 seconds.

I've got Comcast directly plugged into the XB1.

Hm... Dead Rising 3 won't start any more for me... It just goes back to the dash after a few seconds on the splash screen. :-/
Any idea?

Edit: never mind - working now.

I have that problem too. I just bought a box yesterday with my X1, having trouble finding it and when it does it displays in purple. Im going to exchange it thought because my roommates works fine.

I'm very impressed with my XBone so far. It is much more responsive than I expected and it turns out I really wanted that TV app I made fun of mercilessly.

Anyone try their direct tv box into xbox with an hdmi spltter?

Wondering about feeding a split or switched signal from satellite to tv for when I want top picture quality for long term tv viewing

In Germany, System set to en-US.
Up to now, I have not found an app that would be Region restricted! Everything, espeially the Football stuff, works like a charm!
There is a veryy happy camper here! :D

Say whaaaat?

Football as in American?

And English voice commands work too?

First tragedy, then farce.
So my initial impressions:

1) The voice commands are working for me maybe 90% of the time. The rest is typically because I'm saying something the wrong way. MS needs to do some work here and have multiple ways to do the same thing and make it more conversational. Also, making me say the full name of things is stupid, I understand a problem exists (what happens when Forza 5 comes out.. you can't just say "Play Forza"), but there needs to be a better middle ground than as current.

2) I'm personally not seeing a big jump in visuals from 360. Everything so far looks like a really nice version of what I'm used to. Probably because both systems are less powerful than high end PCs and we've been seeing game media that looks this good for a while. That said, it's nice to get solid 30/60FPS in the games and overall better visuals.

3) Love the UI. Love Xbox On/Xbox Turn Off. Really like the TV interface a lot. Love the snap features for TV. Will make great use of that during sporting events.

Basically, I don't think either system was worth getting for the visual jump from PS360, maybe that will change, but the UI here is amazing and makes it feel like a real step up from the 360.

Very happy with the purchase overall... need to pick out a few more games to buy over the next few weeks. My wife is also in love with the system and she hates games. Once these things can be had for 250 bucks they are going to sell a ton as media boxes.

Also, All digitial future FTW. It is so nice not having to hunt for disks to play my games.

haha just say "xbox go to games and apps" no biggy.

But I get what you mean, something like the xbox guide could be more userfriendly.

My Kinect hasn't been out of the box and is now in the attic which means i, annoyingly, miss out on auto-sign too. It worked for years on the 360 - why strip it out now (other than to force Kinect)?

I had a problem similar to that but I fixed it by using the included HDMI cabled instead of the old cable I had been using with my 360.

For those who have accounts in regions that don't officially support voice commands yet. If you set your Xbox Location to one of the supported regions, e.g. English (UK) then you can use voice commands and still purchase things from your local Marketplace if you do it via Xbox.com instead of the dashboard.

Man, I was skeptical as fuck about how the voice control would work on the XB1 after Kinect 1, but it has been unbelievably impressive.

In the 12 hours I have had the console, I've probably given 200-250 commands and have only had to repeat a command once or twice (other than mistakes I made when first learning the syntax). It is so useful to be able to jump anywhere you want so quickly. Some truly next gen shit.

I'm not really using the TV features, so can understand folks using those might have had more difficulty, but hopefully they can improve that with future patches.

Makes me more hopeful that they will be able to really apply this to enhance gameplay for certain types of games this time around. They really needed to have a Kinect game out at launch. In my mind, that oversight is bigger than a lot of the other messups leading up to Nov 22.

So...I don't think this worked for me. I turned the system off with Forza downloading. I wake up this morning and it's at the same amount.

Weird. I ran to run some errands yesterday, queued up Crimson Dragon, KI, Powerstar Golf and Netflix before I left. Shut off the system (with default settings) and when I got home an hour and a half later, all were dled and installed when I turned on the system.

Just can't get over how cool this system is. I'm sounding like an xbox evangelist for the last few days.

Haven't messed with multiplayer/party yet, so I don't know anything about the issues there, but as for going through several menus to get to your friends list, "Xbox go to friends" takes you there immediately. I didn't think I'd use the voice commands much, but they work so well and so fast that I use them all the time.

So the power brick is not supposed to be louder than the console and audible when it is in standby (quick start standby) right?

Seriously it is loud.

My buddy had this, swapped to a newer/high speed HDMI and it worked perfect

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Look what the most amazing woman in this planet dropped by a little earlier...

HOLY FUCKING SHIT. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. My friend had pre-ordered me one some time ago knowing I'd give into the hype and want to buy one. I can't believe it, she's so goddamn amazing. I don't know how I'm going to repay this.

Fuck, I'm honestly in a state of shock. I had resigned myself to not getting one until 2014 and this happens.

I'm still blown away at how well the OS works. All the earlier complaints were frauds.

Oh, I forgot to do that gesture tutorial, but I see some bits I missed there in that link. Thanks for posting that. I really hope that MS looks into distinct two arm gestures for later UI interaction. I'd love to put one arm straight out in front of me while rotating the other arm as if I am pretending to be the face of a clock, with my arms in place of a clock's...a partial human radial menu that had custom placement for pins accessed by hours on a clock or a half-clock face, anyway. If accessible in most places under most scenarios, it would allow some seriously next-gen fast OS navigation.

MS needs to do a better job of exposing the help built into the system, among other things needed for a new update, just for newbies' sake. And, yes, I think the system is pretty amazingly consistent and freaking fast with voice and anything digital or options-related, in general. While there is some mild wonkiness that I hope is addressed quickly (via cloud rather than massive downloads and installations), it is so very far from the broken heap some made it out to be in pre-release, but maybe they've just got the worst luck and the Kinect doesn't like the parting of their hair. Or pre-release was just that bad in those test situations.

I haven't heard mine at all. Both the console and brick have been whisper quiet.
