Who would all import and save a lot of money instead of buying nationally.
Why on Earth are Sony charging $38235 for 'em? Why can't they just be the equivalent of the USA's exchange rate?
I went there earlier this year and did some gaming shopping as well. It wasn't that expensive but it seemed like they'd sell mostly US stuff. Thought they also sold Japanese games and collectors editions that were sold out everywhere else. Ended up buying only a laser pointer instead, though.I'll go to Brasil and purchase a PS4!
Brazil has a protectionist economy that taxes the hell out of imports. They're effectively blockading themselves. Why on Earth are Sony charging $38235 for 'em? Why can't they just be the equivalent of the USA's exchange rate?
Pretty much.
If you are rich enough to buy a $4000 reais electronic device, you are certainly rich enough to go on vacation to the US and bring one with you.
Also if you are that rich, it's because you or your family aren't dumb about how to save money.
Sony should have just left Brazil unstocked.
There is no reason whatsoever to buy a PS4 here, unless you have enough money to through it out the window. Its way easier and cheaper to go to the US or even Paraguay/Argentina/Chile and buy one there.
I thought Brazilian gamers were importing PS4s to get around the inflated taxation. They're probably playing PS4 by these means and ignoring the screwed up domestic priced units.
While the Wii U is US$ 100 cheaper than the PS4 in the US, Nintendo's console is US$ 900 cheaper in Brazil. Both are imported.
You tell me.
why is the price so high ?
educate me gaf

Thanks to Platy for posting this.
PS4's BRL price is R$ 858.00.
That's $394.85 in USD. (cheaper than NA)
Sony Brazil's profit margin on that is R$ 257.00 (118.27 USD)
They remove that profit margin as a "discount" to keep costs down.
But the tax adds on R$ 2,524.00 ($1161.53 USD) On top of the base price and retailer markup.
Holy fucking shit. This is nuts.
I agree, I think you quoted the wrong person.
In chile the PS4 is RS1500.
Is it to be believed that the reason for the price is Brazil's import taxes and fees? Not Sony's decision?

Insanely high taxes for foreign goods. Sony lowered the base price as much as they could, but tax on tax on tax added up....
That calculation is fake.
Sony Brazil never really explained the price.
Wii U is imported and still cheaper than PS4.
Brazil doesn't have their version of a whackjob who need to be the first to purchase a new version of an electronic in their respective country or the world?
Well there has to be some logical reason for the high price. They want to sell units.
People always buy in the gray market, because dont unofficial import dont pay the ridiculous taxes.
But the bad part of Sony putting a price so high is that that influences the gray market prices too. Being much more disproportionately higher for a $400 PS4 hardware than is for the $300 PS3.
Big part of oficial PS4 price is because of taxes. But Sony Brazil dont helped making the calculation in the worst possible way. For example, they put the markup in the beginning, and all the cascaded taxes multiply a higher initial price number.

In Brazil, a total of 0 PS4s have so far been sold
The PS4 was officially released there this Friday, and at a whopping $1,850
For PS4 people will get 4 jobs in Brazil.
Even rich people don't like to be so blatantly ripped offThat's strange. You'd think there are enough rich people in Brasil.

Ahh yes...why are Sony even bothering?
I think it costs 2999 reais in the grey market. Like, wtf. Awful.
The PS3 is locally manufactured or at least assembled, the PS4 isn't. It's the reason MS managed to price the X1 around $930 (R$ 2199), which is far from the $499 but still within the expected price after taxes and whatnot. But the bad part of Sony putting a price so high is that that influences the gray market prices too.
