Man if only it looked like FFVII SNES

Holy fucking shit this is gorgeous. Holy shit! There's seriously no more info on this?
Agree. Besides, I wasn't on these boards back then, so I sure hell wasn't one of those who hated the PSP style. I think the PSP style looks to be the perfect evolution of the classic sprite form, via stretched proportion and detailing.Man, I don't care what people posted in a thread from when I was in high school. The SNES style looked great. The PSP style looks great. The Phone style looks bad. Even playing Dimensions, where I have no prior image to shadow my opinion, it looks bad. The sprites in that game have this awkward pose while standing still that makes their arms jut out way behind them.
Some thread from 07 does not change how ugly this game looks.
If the people working on VI are the same as V (which most likely is the case), Kazuko Shibuya, the artist behind that rendition of Terra (and other characters in FFIV-VI) is the art director and sprite artist behind this.Agree. Hell, either that, or a closer artistic styling to this:
I would not settle for anything lesser that either those two. I do feel FFV and this, from what the PSP gave us, IS a step back. Though, then again, Square's been doing that a lot in the recent times.
How do you guys like touch controls for these games? I find them unusable for me. Carrying a bulky controller beats the purpose of "mobile" gaming. If I don't do that I might as well fire up the old SNES.

As I mentioned earlier, though, if the Mana series is anything to go by, its that the guy who makes something awesome early in his career is perfectly capable of making shit later in his career. Mana's drastic drop in art designs was one of the many reasons I stopped buying and playing those games.
I know this isn't the place to really ask, but if there's anything I'd want SE to bring over to mobile it's the Tactics Ogre series (or more SRPGs in general). Think it could happen?

But it actually displays at something like 1.1:1.
This is wrong. The image gets stretched out horizontally a bit so the aspect ratio of the image output by the SNES is wider than what the roughly 256 x 224 native resolution of most games would have you believe.
That is, the pixels are meant to be rectangular on SNES games: longer horizontally than they are tall.

Nomura was behind that rendition of Terra. Shibuya simply just did the sprites(Nomura was responsible for taking Amano's art and SD-ifying it).
And, don't forget, a lot of the people behind the original FFVI aren't even with Square anymore. Even regarding the original's four art directors, Tetsuya Takahashi... gone(founded Monolith Soft), Hideo Minaba.... gone(is rarely contracted by Square Enix nowadays). Other than Shibuya, Nomura's still there, but I doubt he'll have any big role in the art direction(he seems too busy to give any concern to a mobile game considering he's tackling two big console games).
The FF Wiki credits Shibuya for those pieces, as well as the ones done in a similar fashion for FFI-II, IV and V. And I was talking about the iOS version of V, not the original one:
Holy crap that image is even worse than the others I've seen of FFV for iOS..
FF Wiki states it's Nomura's art(it's even listed as Nomura's art in the address). The FF Wiki credits Shibuya for those pieces, as well as the ones done in a similar fashion for FFI-II, IV and V. And I was talking about the iOS version of V, not the original one:
It's no worse than carrying a 3DS or Vita around with you.
lol really?
Why are people so sensitive in bring their handhelds around
Why buy yet another handheld when the game is available on my phone which is always on me.lol really?

There's also the art of Darill(clearly Nomura's art):
No one wants to be a nerd.
No one wants to be a nerd.
If even the most cynical and shitty cash-grabs like All the Bravest can make a shitton of money for S-E, why would they?
Hell, either that, or a closer artistic styling to this:
Or maybe they'll port over FF spinoffs.
There's also the art of Darill(clearly Nomura's art):
Actually, the new sprites seem much closer to that artwork than the old ones.
Nomura's signature is on the SD art.
The FF wiki is wrong in this case.

That makes it sound like it's a PSX or N64 game, not SNES like people have been saying. There's just a couple lines of text with that picture.
It was a mockup for a 32-bit game. The poster who called it SNES was incorrect. That makes it sound like it's a PSX or N64 game, not SNES like people have been saying.
Honestly, what it reminds me most of is DQ7, just a little nicer looking.2D on 3D backgrounds? It looks like Xenogears. I imagine you'd be able to spin the camera around with shoulder buttons.

The image above has sprites on a polygonal environment. It says so underneath the image. That looks all sprite to me.
I don't think they really considered all-polygonal FF at the time. Too big of a paradigm shift. It wasn't until XI that they really gave up camera control to the user.
Yea, as much as I dislike this, I will still be buying it Day 1.
I guess it was Xenogears like then...The image above has sprites on a polygonal environment. It says so underneath the image.
The FF wiki should not be taken as a reliable source of FF information anyways.
Why would you buy something you dislike? Let alone on day 1 instead of waiting for a sale or something? They're not going to take note that you bought it begrudgingly or whatever.
Man if only it looked like FFVII SNES
I find them very easy and approachable for RPGs. I've played Tales of Phantasia and Tales of the Abyss a lot recently. Tales of the Abyss via Splashtop. On a 10 inch tablet. How do you guys like touch controls for these games?.
