Yes, and one of her first interactions with the community was lying to them, that's a really bad start. I don't see how you're supposed to be able to trust someone like that after that sort of first impression. I couldn't care less whether she's a feminist or whatever, that's her personal life.

I can't speak about that or whatever, since I don't really know what's going on on all sides.
However, I'm only pointing out the fact that you don't need to have played a Mega Man game to be an effective community manager for Mighty No. 9.
It just sounds like an elaborate title for the person that posts news to the KS account and forum/email blast.
I just listed some basic tasks that we know they do, I haven't had that sort of job before, so I dunno the ins and outs.

It's not childish, only because of the way she got in. I can see if they hired a designer with credentials and they never played a MM game, at least there someone who's in the industry and has experience. She got in through "connections." If you get in through "connections" I at least want to hear good things as to why they were put into the team through these "connections."

She's only the community manager so she doesn't really do much with the game. I just don't really like the designs she's showing off, they don't scream cartoonic robot to me.

This is the best pic I could find at the moment.

That is gross. She should be fired base solely on that horrible design. Why would a robot need a piercing?

II really doubt that anyone here talking about this is mad that a feminist got a job, but turns out that if someone is a feminist every criticism towards them has to be because of that.

But that seems to be most of the complaints. That and she may or may not have played Megaman games. How do either of those effect her job performance, exactly??

A large portion of 4chan is white, male, conservative and sheltered as all fuck. The only thing new about this is that developers will actually now have to listen to these people because they took their money to fund the game.

To be honest, the possibility of the community being a mirror of the bottomless pit of human indignity that anonymity facilitates is precisely what I personally feel like a fool right now for not even considering.

Concerns about how she was hired or her politics don't immediately matter to me, but certainly her experience and dubious artistic talent may concern me at some point, and I recognize that these are issues for people. But I feel really shitty right now, and I think it's because I'm wondering if a community that can go from "hooray, we're getting a new Mega Man game" to "I want my money back" without any idea yet how this somewhat minor hire will play out should really be giving input on anything.

She started off by admitting she had never played any of the Mega Man games, and then proceeded to delete the post later and state that "Mega Man X is best Mega Man." She seems unqualified for the position, but that's not even the main issue here really. It's the fact that she's supposed to be a community manager and she's being dishonest from the start.

How does not playing a mega man effect being a community manager for mighty no9?

The worst part of this situation is the fact that Dina has lied and erased the evidence of her lies... On her first day of the job...

Pretty sure I'd be locking my Twitter if a bunch of jerks were combing through every last tweet of mine to come up with a multitude of reasons to denounce me. I get that they're free to do so if her Twitter is open, but that doesn't make it any less of a douchey thing to do.

It's pretty disconcerting to be on the end of that kind of scrutiny. I don't really blame her for that. Deleting her tweets is dishonest, but I'd probably have done the same thing in her situation. It's scary, being scrutinized like that all of a sudden. One of the many problems with social media today.

You're willfully ignoring the main point of my post. The point which proves she lied to the community she's supposed to be managing and then tried to cover it up. If she hadn't done that in the first place I wouldn't really care as much.

Right, I heard that in the video.
Her word was that she never played any of the classic Mega Man games, and only played X (which is an absolute travesty).

That may be the case, that might not, I dunno, and it's not my business, nor do I care.

Being a community manager for Mighty No. 9 has nothing to do with Mega Man.
A community manager's responsibilities include interaction with the community, relaying input from the community to the development staff, all stuff pertaining to the project.

Absolutely none of that requires Mega Man knowledge.
Q: Community manager, can you explain to me how Mighty No. 9 is similar to and different from Megaman?

A: Uhhh...

No, that's not the problem with social media here. The problem here is that social media makes it very easy to call people out on their lies nowadays. If you're not dishonest, there won't be something to bite you back.

Right, because everyone here is absolutely, 100% honest about everything they say online. I'm pretty sure we all lie. We just aren't community managers in what has turned out to be a community of angry MRAs looking for any reason to discredit someone whose views they disagree with.

I agree that she's made some missteps. But I think this whole thing has just been blown out of proportion. It seems like she's barely gotten to do her job and she's already being labeled as unfit for it. Wasn't this post made only two days ago?

Here's the problem: there are people on this planet who think it is "a travesty" when someone they don't know has not played a game they love.

This is the exact mindset that's the problem here.

And she's the community leader, no less. What a freaking disgrace.
Pretty shameful.
I think a worse part about it is that this is going to turn into another "disgusting gamers against feminism" thing because of the loudest jackasses saying sexist things instead of any of the more legitimate concerns that people may have. Case in point;

I really doubt that anyone here talking about this is mad that a feminist got a job, but turns out that if someone is a feminist every criticism towards them has to be because of that.
Ya, I don't care that she is a feminist, but I do not want a feminist agenda pushed onto me. I'm not saying that will happen, but I'd be extraordinarily PISSED if the main character was that horrible Fembeck or anything similar. Personally, I love Beck's design as it is.

Well, she posted stuff and the lied about it. Should no one have called her out on it? People need to be called on their bullshit. She is the community manager, and on her first day of work she lied to the COMMUNITY and DELETED THE EVIDENCE! That does not inspire much faith.

Not sure about firing, but yeah it doesn't look great. The body's fine, it's just the face. It looks too realistic, and I can't say I care for the piercing either.

She's not just acting as a community manager apparently.

And once again, she lied. If your job is to interact with the community, its a real, REAL dumb move to lie about playing the games your game is based on. It means she will be unable to properly evaluate what information is important to convey to the development team.

I'm more appalled that she thinks Megaman X is the best Megaman game. Whethere she played it or not ain't my business nor does it matter
Hey, it wasn't that bad. Really. ....

ok maybe it wasn't great. It had a few problems.....

<sigh> It was actually pretty crappy. But it was Mega Man at least.

But that seems to be most of the complaints. That and she may or may not have played Megaman games. How do either of those effect her job performance, exactly??

Oh, so you mean to say it is between that highly inflammatory stance, or a legitimate one that you do not share the point of view of? Sure it isn't the biggest of deals, especially not as big as it is being made, but to many people who backed this game it seems to be, for reasons such as this one;
Because the No9 community are a rabid (and I mean that in mixed way) bunch of Mega Man fans.

That passion for a very specific series of games is what drove this kickstarter beginning to end.

She addressed the deleted tweets, claims she is aware they are being circulated and is fine with that. I would post proof but I am not a backer and can't access the forums.

But that seems to be most of the complaints. That and she may or may not have played Megaman games. How do either of those effect her job performance, exactly??

Agreed. I just read through some of the comment section and some of those responses are just so... No wonder gamers get a bad name.

Maybe some people have an issue with her allegedly being dishonest. I get that. But reading those comments, the overwhelming impression I get is that the real issue here is that she had the temerity to suggest that Beck's gender could be changed, or that Call could be made playable in order to make female fans feel a little less neglected. Everything else (her supposed dishonesty, nepotism, lack of mm experience) just seems like a pretext covering the real issue: her "agenda."

As for the drawing: it was clearly a bit of fan-art. Not only that, it was obviously modeled on herself...and people are shitting all over it. And none of them stop to think how their behavior could be making her feel right now. She's having her character, integrity, and talents impugned in the most public way imaginable. But who am I kidding, for some that may even be the entire point.

It's disgraceful.

The real thing we should be getting on Comcept for are the unfair distribution of Mighty numbers to PAX attendees.
I should be Mighty No. 13, darn it.

Community managers also manage the companies social media presence. I don't think she needs knowledge of game design and programming to relay back to the staff that the fans think controls need to be better or something especially considering most of them won't have that knowledge themselves.

World isn't a hugbox. When you present something of your own to to people, people will scrutinize it for value and you by extension, and challenge you to better yourself if they don't find it to their liking. You can either think about why you upset people and explain yourself or find people that would value what you did or change something about what you did; or you can hide behind the shield of "feelings" that should never be hurt for some reason.

Nobody considered the feelings of Microsoft engineers when they made a product people were iffy with.
People are shitting on that design because they are legitimately scared of a possibility that thing might end up being anywhere close to the finished product. Just so that her feelings don't get hurt.

I don't really like the female design. Just don't think it goes with the art style too well.

I also don't think one person is going to mess things up. Would be nice if they had at least played the games before but I'm not going to get bent out of shape about it like some.

"I'm sorry i have a vagina and am working on something you like"

or

"I'm sorry i drew fanart"

or

"I'm sorry I admitted I liked megaman x"

people are holding her to some pretty bizarre criteria. most of the things people are holding her to seem to have very little to do with her job. IT's her decision whether her twitter is private or not, there's no responsibility to anyone to have played prior megaman games before being on the team, etc.

I also think it's hillarious people think the community manager is going to over throw inafune and his collection of "veteren megaman developers" and ruin their game with a dastardly feminist agenda

This is exactly what I was talking about. No one's complaints are legitimate because some mean boys are saying offensive and stupid stuff. Nope, shes a feminist so everyone's problem has to be related to that.

I actually believe she should have some level of knowledge of Megaman. Not actually playing Megaman, you have probably some cursory knowledge equivalent to a wikipedia article. Being a community manager for something means you should know information that you can correctly evaluate which information is important, and without knowledge of the subject, the only way to evaluate that is a mix of personal interest and "well shit, this has a shitload of posts". The fans not knowing much isn't an excuse, you're supposed to be ahead of most of the fans. With this, odds are she's actually behind most of the fans.

Now that truly is disgraceful.

I can see about the complaints of the lying, and deleting of tweets, but there should be no complaint about her wanting a female character to play as. It's just another character to play as which wouldn't be a bad thing or affect the game in anyway. I don't know why she stated that though, I thought Call was already in the game and playable anyways? She is a female character after all.

Are people legitimately concerned that she'll ruin the game through terrible bot designs and turning the lead character into a girl? That's just crazy...they have enough faith in the designers to give 'em $4 million, but not enough faith that they'll throw out bad ideas that come from employees.

Or is this really all about a community manager lying and trying to cover up the lies?

The entire thing seems really stupid.

Wait, what's that got to do with anything?

It's called not being a jackass. You can be critical (highly critical) of someone's work without being demeaning or hateful. And the comment section I was referring to was exactly that -- can't speak for this thread, as I haven't read through it.

But my point is that it doesn't seem to be about her drawing abilities for a lot of people. They don't like her because of her feminism. Shitting on her bit of fan art is just a passive aggressive jab at her politics.

To be clear: many of the people complaining, not all. And I'm certainly not accusing you of that as I haven't read any of your posts in this thread.

She flat out has said that her friends/bf helped get her the job. I am not really sure that counts as nepotism.

World English Dictionary
nepotism (ˈnɛpəˌtɪzəm)

— n
favouritism shown to relatives or close friends by those with power or influence

Just asking but, some people are saying she got her positions through nepotism. Is that right?
Like 99% of jobs ever. Yeah. 'It's not what you know. It's who you know' is a really old phrase. Nearly everyone in the games industry got their start or their big break by being chummy with someone.

Also, it might be nice if something in this game didn't look like Megaman fanart for a change.

Now that truly is disgraceful.

I can see about the complaints of the lying, and deleting of tweets, but there should be no complaint about her wanting a female character to play as. She's talking about changing the main character, who is already established, to a female. She has much more of a voice and influence than anyone here and she is a character designer who designed and put a lot of effort into a pretty hideous looking female Beck. It's not even in the same ballpark when it comes to matching the style of the rest of the MN9 art.

These are the things that scare me.

This is exactly what I was talking about. No one's complaints are legitimate because some mean boys are saying offensive and stupid stuff. Nope, shes a feminist so everyone's problem has to be related to that.

I should have stuck a "to many" somewhere in there. To many people that seems to be the real issue. I stand by that.
