And yeah, I made the same mistake with Driftmoon as well. I only figured it out a few days ago while going through all my followed games (which is a list of all the greenlit games I currently own).

The more I play Samurai Gunn, the more I like it. Since everyone is equally matched, this is a game first and foremost about skill mastery and just becoming a better player, and very few games follow that kind of minimalist progression. It's so satisfying to go from dying constantly against a single foe to taking on two and not losing a life.
That's more rewarding IMO than any kind of upgrade or unlockable system; you really feel like you've become a better player thanks to your perseverance and not because you equipped Dragon Sword+1 and an extra health upgrade

If you end up getting let me warn you that the there's a steep learning curve but the game is quite nice. Lovely art, the Story is told in a comic book style and you may need to go back and repeat some missions so you can get some decent cards for your deck for later missions. There's also co-op which is fun.
I've been using it for half a year or so for idling and my VAC standing is ok, but to be 100% safe you could use the appid method that JaseC will point out to you in the next couple of posts.

I've been using it for a while and haven't had any issues. I haven't heard of anyone getting banned for it, but I can't promise anything.
You don't have to touch the achievements at all. Just double click the game and let it idle. If you don't have it downloaded, just add it by using the appid (found on the store or badge page).

It's not really that useful to be honest, as you don't get notified when the games come out and the Greenlight pages have no relation to the community pages, so you don't get notified of any announcements made after it comes out (like Steam keys being available), but I just use it to keep track of what I'm waiting on.

You won't get banned if you're just using it to idle, but if you want to be super-duper safe you can use the steam_appid.txt trick instead, which involves making said text file in the root directory of a game's executable, inputting your desired app id (easiest way of obtaining this is to just load up your badge page and copy/paste the URL, being sure to remove everything but the number) and saving the file, then running the executable from within the directory (this is particularly important as running the game through Steam itself will override the value in the text file). Here's an example image featuring Age 2 HD. The neat thing about using this track in lieu of SAM is that you can be idling in one game while in fact being in another and there'll be no drop time penalty because as far as Steam is concerned you're in just the one game.

It may seem so but I doubt this is actually the case. I used up my three Doorways drops in less than an hour, for example, despite idling.
How is Frozen Endzone? I really like Synapse even though I didn't put in nearly enough time with it.

SAM doesn't require downloading. It's great when a game gets cards after you've already beaten/deleted it. It's also really light, so I'll use it even if I have a game downloaded.

Ya, I'm not sure about this, but it does seems faster to me and I made my rule to play all games until I get all cards at least, so I haven't idled in some time, but it really seemed slower for some reason when I was idling for cards sometimes.
In that case it makes sense, still better than downloading a game you surely won't play.
Still, though, if you can make a habit of it early enough it's a good way to keep track. Similarly, I use my wishlist to keep tabs on the card-supporting games I've yet to buy.
I forgot to note that the steam_appid.txt trick needs to be used with a game that uses CEG ("Steam DRM"), but since that's just about every game available on Steam, the odds are in your favour.

As I understand you don't need to download anything with the appid trick either, you just need 1 game already installed.
That's the cleanest way IMO.

Don't get me wrong I usually play the games to get the cards drops but some games have huge download files like Brütal Legend and having to download it with my slow connection is a pain.
