But If then what was the point of the kick-starter then? couldn't they budget according to what they got, That's why I don't like kick-starter you have to pay more and more to get a finished product.

It's not a budgetary issue. There are two things to consider:

1) As I mentioned just before, pricing your game much higher during early build periods locks out a lot of the noise that would otherwise be generated by people who purchase the game without realising it's in an unfinished state, and
2) The beta access Kickstarter tier was $55 and while there's an argument to be made that the $5 Steam Tax shouldn't be in place, pricing the game lower than the aforementioned tier would be a great way to give the middle finger to your backers -- you'd quite literally be punishing them for getting you to this enviable point

Instead of them magically never happening at all? I agree, it is a terrible future we've found ourselves in.

"Marc Ecko's Getting Up Steam Store and Retail Key"

I wonder if this means that retail keys activate on Steam now?!

All new apps on Steam get three subs by default: one specifically for retail keys, one for the store that can double as one for retail keys, and one for beta testing. By default, they're respectively named:

- Steam Sub [sub id]
- [App id] Steam Store and Retail Key
- [App id] for Beta Testing

Edit: See KnightShift, for example.

Edit edit: To clarify, "retail key" is just a catch-all term to refer to keys purchased outside of Steam, be they tied to physical copies or from a digital retailer. Basically, I'm saying don't read too much into the "Steam Store and Retail Key" phrase because it's just how Valve has set up the registry API to handle new app listings and Devolver forgot to change the sub names.

I think the ugliest thing about the wl2 thing is the number

like $60 is call of duty

it just feels wrong

then again I don't really care since it's a beta and it's your choice to opt into it. if they go for a reasonable price later on no harm no foul

Hi excuse me my english

this is a advertsing no sense in my client. I PAY MY GAMES TO STEAM!!

Steam moderator closed all my thread http://bit.ly/a0OIs9 http://bit.ly/cyuZdN http://bit.ly/btyz1B

and this is a PM from moderator

You signed the Eula for Steam and that means you accept ANY changes done to it and ANY graphical changes being made.

You don't have any rights to a clean client without Apple Advertising.
This is epic FAIL

Putting the Apple logo in the Windows client is equivalent to putting the pictures of Buddha in the Vatican in Rome.
Even if you may seem a trivial thing, you must remove the Apple logo from the Windows client.
In every forum / blog / site
you create real religious war between Windows users and Apple users.

If you agree pls post here your opinion

My sides...

Oh come now, New Vegas was released three years ago.

FO 3 and New Vegas are really good games. But if you played 1 and 2 when they were released, you wouldn't call them fallout sequels. Sure they share the same "universe" but that's it. They are elder scrolls with guns, and they excel at doing that.

To those freaking out over the price for Wasteland 2 on Steam: The price on Kickstarter was $15. That high price is probably for early access (which people who bought it on the Kickstarter already get, to my knowledge). When it releases, it'll probably drop down to at most $30. Chill out, dawgz.

Fallout New Vegas is the proper Fallout 3 and the best that could have been expected given the industry we have now. But it was definitely a worthy successor from a gameplay and design standpoint.

Yup - anything at or above the $55 tier got beta access, so it's like Planetary Annihilation in that they don't want to poop directly on their high rolling backers by selling the same access to common people for a common people price. No Peasants Allowed. :)

Yeah, it's probably the same reason as Prison Artitecht and Planetary Annihilation.

At this price I pretty much have to buy it now.

No you don't*. And what's the bad news? Assuming that Tony didn't mean that more poor souls will own A:CM.

*Okay, if it gives you that 5$ voucher for next year then maaaybeeee it's somewhat reasonable.

Usually if you have to ask this then the answer is no. The game looks incredibly forgettable anyway.

I'd say no. I didn't enjoy it at all, but that's just me.

Yeah I think I have to draw the line somewhere. Plus seeing as how I'm more inclined to the rebooted XCOM this might have me in the mindset of wanting to hate it.

is the special edition of shadow warrior worth the extra $2?

Not really. I haven't noticed the extra weapons much (the default sword if waaaay too much fun) and the rest is just a digital artbook and the soundtrack. Though if you do change your mind there's an upgrade option in Steam anyway.

If you guys dont want to pay 60$ you dont have to. Theres very easy ways to get it for almost half the price. Im not gonna say how since we dont talk about it .

So, uh, apparently nobody bought Kingdoms of Amalur:

Those hoping for a Christmas Miracle discount on the Steam version are out of luck, I'm afraid.

That's odd. There's obviously a ton of lore and world/universe already built upon. Guess it must have been a cost issue.

His full comment:
Good news bad news!
Good News:
Aliens Colonial Marines was confirmed yesterday at $2.
Bad News:
Apparently we had the wrong list price in place for Dishonored so, while it will still be 75% off it will be $7.49 not $4.99. Sorry for the confusion.
Cheers, Tony

At least rise of nations was sold. Any neww who to?

No word yet. The article also notes that there are residual legacy issues that need to be reconciled: with Rise, that's the IP being part owned by Microsoft, while publishing duties for Amalur, outside of Steam, still fall under EA's pre-existing contract, so it could be some time before we see the Rise games hit Steam.
