Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | December 2013 |

Quoting myself from the Vita shouldn't get developed for thread. I think this is a pretty good solution.
I honestly think the solution here is very simple and it's what I hope Sony is doing. Every one of their biggest studios (thinking MM, ND, SSM, SP, GG, PD) should be making a Vita game in the same way MM did Tearaway. With a small team, 10-20 people, not as an alternative to a PS4 game. Allow some up and comers in a studio to really get their hands dirty directing a game with a smaller budget and less needed sales. I'm not talking tiny games here, but Tearaway-sized experiences. This will have all sorts of benefits for everyone.

1. Vita games made by the biggest studios. No reason ND themself couldn't create an experience crafted specifically for the Vita, but they could just do it on a smaller scale. You know that this would be big for sales, too.

2. Realistic necessary sales. Tearaway isn't doing well, but relative to the size of the team that made it - ~12 core people - it's probably doing well enough.

3. Groom potential future studio leaders. If you have a young dev on a team who has a lot of promise, you can give them their own game to create.

4. Risky concepts and IPs. Sony historically loves putting out stranger and more innovative titles, especially on handhelds. With the small teams and big names on these games, plus the starving Vita install base, Sony can offer a liberating creative outlet to their big, franchise teams and keep making the unusual games their hardcore fans (i.e. Vita owners) love, or to bring back old franchises.

I really can't see why Sony wouldn't do this. On the surface, it seems perfect to me. Good for devs and good for fans. Imagine an inFamous game made by Sucker Punch for the Vita. They could use a lot of their established tech and assets from the PS3 game, but make something specifically crafted for the Vita. (This is what I suspect it's happening, by the way). Or a handheld Jak game by ND, or a Motor Toon Grand Prix from PD. This is just such a perfect solution (as far as I can tell) that I will never understand why Sony doesn't do it.

I bought Tearaway on Amazon with a price match to gamestop. I wasn't in a rush to get it since I've got a huge backlog so I opted for the free shipping. I picked up Dragon's Crown before the sale ended since I still didn't get the game. I will be picking up Guacamole when it goes on sale today. I still wish to this day that KH 1.5 HD ReMiX was released on vita along side the ps3 version... Lol.

Just filled up 23 GB of my Vita and I've just started dling the Plus games I got. As I'm traveling abroad for a few days I won't be able to continue the downloads til I get back on Friday, but man I can't wait to see what my Vita's gonna be like with all them games on it X3

Wasn't Guacamele supposed to be on sale starting today on the US PSN?

Still showing 15$ for me.

Grace Chen hasn't updated the store yet.

Gaming on the ps3 and vita is really cheap thanks to ps+. Say if I had a 3ds instead, I am pretty sure I would have tripled the amount of money spent to match the quantity if gaming on the vita.

I beat Spelunky on the Daily Challenge and got a score of 260k. For some reason it didn't post on the leaderboards though. I was definitely online. Is it because I skipped the credits?

I am 5 chapters in Stick it to the Man (still at the beginning) and I am not sure if I would recommend it.
I dislike the character design but the overall world artstyle is nice. The humor is really hit and miss so far and the puzzles are easy.
The controls could have used some work. Switching between mindreading and sticking should have been on toggle and not hold. I often accidentially cleared the puzzle even though I wanted to hear the dialogue first, which goes against my OCD tendencies with games, because I just touched stuff. Grabbing stickers doesn't work well with the touchscreen. They could have just used the backtouch for the mindreading and fronttouch for sticking. The ability to fast forward dialogues is a great addition though.

The only element I really like so far is the music. Not a surprise after they have picked a great theme song.

I'm thinking of buying Jeanne D'Arc (PSP) to play on my Vita, as well as Killzone: Liberation (which is just too awesome). Any other great Strategy RPGs (like D'Arc) recommended (PSP or Vita)? Thanks!

Metal gear acid and acid 2. Absolutely awesome SRPG, even if you haven't played a single metal gear.

were you online the entire time?

happened to me with a 1.29 million score :(

It's a bug, I think.

Novacaine and I discussed this when we both did it a week or two ago. It counts it toward your stats and stuff (it's my highest score on record), but it doesn't put you in the daily leaderboard for some reason.

Are those on EU PSN? Cause they aren't on NA PSN, as far as I know.

The Amiga Brotherhood
Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse episode 1 is out tomorrow in EU

Awesome!

These stealth releases should stop though, the "vita haz no gaemz" meme is fueled even by the uncertainty of the release dates(or of the release itself).

I agree that at least a small group within sony studios should work on vita, but i'm not so sure that Tearaway will be fine.

Someone needs to force SCEA to believe on vita(firing some head if necessary) and give a good support, SCEE and SCEJ cannot do everything alone, it's not SCEE or SCEJ job to deal with American developers, publishers, retailers, promoters, users etc

Those development for third party games is a really good idea but the results need to show soon and being good.

Hey VitaGAF, been enjoying the hell out of Ys I and nearly finished Ys II. Think Oath is next on my list...

Quick question: I have a few spare mem cards for my Vita. Can I set one up on the US store? With a new account with a Us billing address... Would it be as simple as swapping cards and logging in with a different account?

I think deep down I know the answer to this, and the sad thing is I may actually get a second Vita in the January sales....

PS3 had that meme. And look how it turned out. Have faith... ;)

It's not quite that simple.
You still have to "format" the vita and go through the setup wizard, I believe.
Someone else can answer better probably, as I've never bothered to do it.

Any deals on Ys in the foreseeable future

my son loves YS 7

On the new game? Probably not, though stranger things have happened. As Tizoc says above, the PSP games were on sale @ 50% off recently.

The best way to get third parties is to sell Vitas, and the only way to sell Vitas is through games. Sony needs to seriously kickstart Vita development themselves and this seems like the best way to do that. People will buy Vitas if Naughty Dog is making games for it.

Still working my way through God Eater 2. Mission 42 (I think) was pretty tough. Three Aragami against three characters totally drained all of my healing items. Can't believe *major spoilers*
they'd actually kill off one of the main characters, especially one that shows up in the opening.

Naughty Dog will never make a Vita game. There's no way that Sony will ever let their most successful Western studio get anywhere near a Vita.

Wasn't Famous teasing an infamous vita title? Then again, such a project would probably be handled like God of War PSP was handled, not by the IP's Developer.

Infamous could be anything and I think it'll be a shitty port like the amazing Spiderman.

Batman is $20 for digital on Amazon.

Worth it or no?

NOOOO . it's a horrible game.

here is my other post on it"
Batman Blackgate is really short, it's a 4~5 hour game (I wasn't rushing it, it's just too easy and you waste your time scanning things) and I don't really want to replay it on new game+ mostly because how boring the exploration is.

and I hate to use this term but it feel like an android game but it does feel like one of the gameloft clones, it's really is there is just no depth here in the gameplay (combat) and everything lacking. this is something I should've got for my Nvidia Shield for $5.

I think the the problem is lack of vision as the game don't know what it want to be, 2.5 levels done badly most of the game, freeflow combat is a downgrade and feel flat, it's not a full or real Metroidvania game and it's not a full or real Arkham game.
