Space Battleship Yamato 7-12

I must commend this show, it does a good job of inducing the FEELS (episode 7 especially) without being hokey or overdramtic. It feels genuine. I also appreciate that the characters handle their beefs mostly (though not always I suppose :p) like the grown ass men and women they are. I'm still puzzled and put off by how the aliens are pretty much Blue humans and I still don't understand the source of the other non-Blue humans in the alien empire. However, it seems this will be a plot point they will actually cover so I'll be patient. I'm also curious as to what really happened to start the war. They've shown a "twist" so to speak but the "twist" is too cartoonish to be the whole truth for this show so I'm hoping they elaborate on it.

Good show is good :)

The Laws of the Sun

Okay, so I think I've mostly got what this Happy Science group teaches and...lol. First half of this movie was a laugh a minute, with teachings such as "All beings of Earth are descendants of advanced beings that lived on Venus" and "Reptile aliens invaded Earth pretending to spread the word of God in order to get sacrificial meals, including humans once in a while", and other such things. Second half was mostly just Buddha; kinda boring, considering how much the other HS movies focused on him. His showdown with the devil was pretty entertaining though.

And so the end of this movie states that the lights of the Eternal Buddha and of El Cantare (or whatever) will meet in Japan and Buddha will be reborn to teach the Laws of the Sun. Now, is this the Sorano guy from The Rebirth of Buddha? Is that guy real? This movie says the light of the Buddha has already fallen to Earth. So it claims that the rebirth of Buddha has already happened. So are they championing that guy as the reincarnation of Buddha, or are they still waiting for him to show up?

So it's finally my turn Happy new year 2014 to Animegaf

So to start the year i'll finish unbreakable machine doll , yushibu and copellion

Once this is done , it'll be YAMATO 2199 time ! congratulations everyone ! You all convinced me to start it !
I hope it's half as good as i hope it is.

The "light of Buddha currently on Earth" referred to is Ryuho Okawa, the founder of Happy Science. The entire religion is founded on his claim that he is the current reincarnation of Buddha and he produces media like the animated films as propaganda tools to bolster his claim to divinity. Sorano Taiyou in Rebirth of Buddha is just an extremely thin self-insert.

Ah okay, I don't know how I didn't determine this myself.

Hanamaru Kindergarten episode 9
This is honestly probably the most enjoyable episode yet, yamoto-sensei still hasent noticed shit tho which she should take a hint soon, but we got glimpses of the character designs of our 3 cute girls as adults, they're actually what I expeted, anzu gets big boobs, koume is smaller but she completely retains her cuteness, and hiichan continues to be the most based one.

Space Battleship Yamato 2199 24

So that "swimsuit episode" everyone was going crazy about ended up being just two minutes! Another case of anime fans being focused on the wrong things. The look at Iscander,
the "paradise" which had already torn itself apart and was now about as dead as Earth, just with a prettier death
, was touching.

Space Battleship Yamato 2199 25

"The Forever War" indeed.

Space Battleship Yamato 2199 26

An unexpected emotional roller coaster of a finale.
Normally I feel like resurrections in fiction cheapen a character's death, but I'll allow it in this case since it was foreshadowed, properly earned, and thematically appropriate. For this episode was mainly about the theme of the cycle of life. Life passing away in death and the departure of the souls of the dead, and life being renewed in marriage and birth. It summed up both the journey of the characters and the journey of humanity that the Yamato symbolized. Ending with Okita's death as he sees Earth one last time, Okita who in life was the soul of the Yamato, is the perfect note to go out on.

Fantastic show.

Thinking of getting on the Yamato 2199 bandwagon soon, but I don't know much about it. Not familiar with the original series.

You don't need to be familiar with the original series, which is not really watchable anymore anyway, or any of the rest of the franchise. Just jump straight into 2199.

It's the best space opera since Babylon 5. That's all you need to know about it. Start watching!

I don't think the last 15 years have been that bereft of sci-fi, like this would ignore Farscape, but Duckroll is correct that it has been a long time since we have seen a Space Opera of this high caliber, much less from anime. Sometimes throwbacks are a good thing.

You should watch Yamato 2199. Even you might enjoy it.
I'd actually slowly started watching it awhile ago, I'm up to episode 6 now.

I must admit, compared to the original series at the same point it blows it out of the water but I can't help but be weary having seen the original you know what I mean? So I'm going through it pretty slow.
Happy New Years

It's Winter season, they almost always look bad. Last Winter we had Minami-ke, Inferno Cop, and nothing else.
Haha, every season looks bad really. Hell, I didn't even think I'd like anything last season and yet I thoroughly enjoyed Kill la Kill.

I actually recently started rewatching Babylon 5, it, it didn't age well. And the CGI, it'd looks worse than the crap in Glass Fleet. The Gathering was also a steaming pile of shit, kinda lucky the show was still able to proceed past that because that was a terrible pilot.

I think for me my favourite was the vacation episode. But overall it was pretty cute fun...though bummed it ended where it did.

And Anzu's climbing animation..I never really tired of that.
