Dear VitaGAF, I have just finished my Atelier Totori Plus True Ending playthrough. 240 saves, 45 hours and I'm finally there with a platinum bonus (my one and only!). It's such a good game, however True Ending requirements are quite ridinculous. Ah well at least everything can be done in one playthrough. Part of the fun waa trying to follow the guide exactly.

Thank you Vita, I wouldn't have done it on the PS3.

Totori plus was so easy compared to Meruru plus, mostly because the bonus content was not required for the platinum like in Meruru (Stuck at around 50% completion :().

Does toukiden have a traditional story mode? U have a huge village map etc? Find new party members late into the game? or is it simply boss rush? Are the maps huge and varied or is it handful of 10-12 maps like MH and SS?

1. Yes
2. There is a village just like in MH
3. Not sure, only play the demo
4. From the official website, there are 6 huge map

The PS3 controls are kind of boring to play in single player, the levels are much more fun on the Vita.

Fun like sticking a needle in my eyeball.

I don't think I'm going to do that for Meruru, last game that I have completed 100% was FFIX...those chocobo maps...

Hey VitaGaf,

I have a question. I am really curious about Monter Hunter. I have heard some good things about it and the PSP one - Freedom Unite - is selling for cheap on psn.

My question is - how did it age? Is it a good idea for someone not familiar with MH to get into the series with this one? I am really curious about how the controls feel in a game like this with PSP having very limited number of buttons.

For the record - I love animation priority action games like Dark Souls.

PS. In addition to everything above - does it need MP to enjoy the game?

It has aged quite well. Animations are still great, although AI does get a bit wonky sometimes and some of the actions feel a tad too slow - gathering takes long, just as taking care of the farm, taking items from the box at the beginning of the missions, and the overall flow of SP.

But, if you are patient and really like striving for improvement and building up your character, it is AMAZING. Combat flows very well, and you can see how a monster is about to die through the animations. Getting some material for new weapons might make you have to fight some monsters over and over, which helps on improving as a hunter and checking how much you've grown.

That's where multiplayer comes in, some of the materials are quite rare, and battling online not only s more fun but the drops are rarer, which helps on material gathering. If you feel stuck and needs better equipment, you can hunt with friends and get it before moving on offline. Mind you, you have two sets of missions offline: some can be only played offline, which are the ones that move the "story" on, and another very different set which can be played online.

Regarding controls, you can map the digital pad on the right stick, which makes it play much more easily, without the need to use "the claw" (you index finger on the digital pad). Definitely the best way to do it. Graphics look better than on the PSP, with popping colours, although the jaggies get in the way (albeit rarely) and textures are not so hot. Still, one of PSP best looking games.

I could really use some company for online play too. We could hunt together, and I can help you with material gathering! As long as you have PS3, we can do it through the ad hoc app, found in the asian store.

It is a fantastic game with loads of content, as long as you have the patience and the will to learn, pretty much like the Souls series or the other good hunting games.

It's not replacing. These levels were designed to be played in multiplayer on the Wii U, where they're a blast, but they're still fun to play as Murphy if you're in single player. You just need to leave your preconceptions about touch screen gaming behind. ;)

The Murphy levels require quick thinking and the controls are precise and easy to use. My initial reaction was negative too, but I've really grown to appreciate them after playing them a lot in the daily challenges.

In the daily challenges it works better since the only thing the AI needs to do is run forward. But in some of the other levels, where that Globox guy has to do something aside running it's almost worthless. It must be awesome for playing co-op, I won't deny that.

It doesn't even work well there, sometimes, as there are things that almost require multitouch with the speeds it gets to as well as levels where nobody is able to complete it cause the AI is just stupid.

I was so determined to finish that one level nobody could, cause I thought it might be my only hope to get that accursed diamond cup.

That would be terrific, I have sent you PM, I would love me some coop

I hate to say it, guys, but I think Vita is falling out of favor with me. I have a couple things I want to play or finish, but there's just nothing on the horizon that's got me looking forward to it. :|

I go in and out of that sometimes. Not with the Vita itself, but the outlook of it. I guess I have just come to terms with it being pretty much dead in the west, both in sales and development. I just have to accept it as an indie machine, which is kind of depressing. But oh well.

I'm dealing with my huge Christmas backlog and desperately trying not to spend any money on the store. I'll get to what's coming in 2014 eventually...

You're not looking forward to Shinovi Versus 2?

A little, kinda.
I mean, what red blooded American male isn't, right?
But I'm a gameplay guy and it just looks like musou type combat which I find dull and boring...

I wish that app that was written in PS Suite had come to fruition... if I could use my Vita to remote play my Steam games... that'd be great. And I'm fine with it as an "indie" machine. Remember, I bought a Vita because I wanted Sound Shapes first and foremost. The indie ports we've gotten have been fantastic (though some are ridiculously sluggish in terms of releasing). My problem is there's nothing coming out... PERIOD. There's still no date on the few indie games that are known, is there? And I've abandoned the idea of some of them on Vita to begin with now that my gaming PC is finished and I've played them and don't necessarily need them on the go (Rogue Legacy).

I love not being an early adopter. I've been there on the Nintendo side of the pond, believe me.

Doesn't matter.
I wasn't an early adopter with 3DS and look how that's working out for me. I've now played the small queue of games (mostly) that I was very interested in and just don't care about anything coming out on that hardware either.

I gave my Vita to my brother that just moved to Japan. So..I of course, went and bought a new Vita lol. I haven't played my Vita in months. Last time I played was Persona 4 Golden (my favorite game). Right now I have a 32gb memory card with...

Tearaway (Oh my god, I'm in love with this game. So cute, but a ton of fun. Very creative).

Sonic Racing (nabbed it for free).

Zero Escape Virtue's Last Reward (Played this on my 3DS, but didn't beat it because I was busy with school. My brother took our copy, so I decided to just buy it again. I actually loved what I played).

Hotline Miami (this was a game I got on PC, absolutely loved it. But I bought an early copy, and it kept crashing on me due to problems with my Graphics card. This was a while back, never finished it). JUST beat the game in one day on Vita. Game looks gorgeous on the screen, and plays like a dream. So addicting.

Y's Memories of Celceta (have never played any of the games in this series. Haven't played this one yet, might sit down with it today. I've heard great things about it though).

What else should I get? Soul Sacrifice? Dead or Alive 5 + (Is it any good?). I'm really thinking of getting Terraria. Never played it before on PC. Looks fun.

You can't go wrong with Guacamelee. I'm also a huge fan of DJMAX Technika Tune, but it's kind of pricey.

This month is going be pretty barren but luckily were getting Dangan Ronpa and Toukiden. Also I think I still have the source code from the remote play with your PC if you want to try something out.

Personally I liked Soul Sacrifice a lot; enought to put over 150 hours into it. Check out the demo and definitely grab it if it's still free for PS+ in NA. DoA5+ is an acquired taste... great port, but make sure you like the fighting system for those games before you purchase if it's not on sale with a deep discount. Terraria is supposedly a good port that looks off graphically... I'm tempted to pick it up myself, but cannot stomach the ridiculous pricetag for a port that seemingly got put on hold so the devs could port it to iOS and Android first.

Listen to Tapejara and get Guacamelee. It's fantastic.

I'll definitely get Guacamelee then. That's a shame about Terraria. I'll look into that, I appreciate the heads up. Had no idea about that. Guess you have to really pay attention to the port quality. Thing is, I have a PC. So I guess id prob just get it on that if it's a better version.

EDIT: Damn, I don't think Soul is free anymore? I just checked on PSN, and it has full price tag. Was it a PS + title last month?

Double edit: Oh noooo. Looks like it was back in Nov-Dec. Just missed it. So sad.

Try Terraria's demo, great game! Also give Spelunky a shot (Also has a demo) if you enjoy platformers!

Isn't Soul Sacrifice free on PS Plus? If your from Europe I'm pretty sure it will be free right away and if not in NA i believe it's free atm.

I have high hopes for a true Soul Sacrifice 2. Some things I think they need to include are randomized arenas and bosses. Take some cues from Dragon's Crown's Chaos Labyrinth. They really need to add more variety in the normal enemies and perhaps have mini bosses of some kind. The combat itself is pretty solid, but I'd like to see sigils and arm lvl get expanded more with more depth.

Yeah, it rotated out pretty quickly, since SCEA refuses to change the evergreen titles (it should have replaced one of those, like Uncharted).

And the Terraria port is solid, it's just that it's late, it's expensive, and there are a few things that have been nit picked, like the splash screen and the color palette being muted.

I'd buy a SS2.

I'd want them to expand the melee to have some more depth in terms of combo ability so that, with specific sigils, you could play the game more like an action game with dodge rolls and such.

I haven't played Spelunky Yet. I hear a lot about it. I'm just going to DL the demo for that and Terraria now. That's a great idea. Just see how they look, and whether I like the gameplay.

BTW DJMAX Technika Tune looks interesting (kind of cool that it's a different genre the the other games I currently have).

DJMAX Technika Tune is incredible. It's my first DJMAX game and it's just so fun. But man is it expensive! I won it in a giveaway from Niche Gamer awhile back, so money wasn't a problem for me, but it is very expensive. Worth it, but only if you KNEW you liked the series or the style. It's too bad there isn't a demo.

Spelunky was my GOTY for Steam voting.
The game is everything awesome anyone ever says about it and more.

If I hated MHFU when I played it on the PSP is there any chance I'll enjoy any of God Eater Burst, Soul Sac, Toukiden or Freedom Wars?

I did not like MHFU at all and felt like I wasted my $10.
I put over 150 hours into Soul Sacrifice.
Try the demos for each game to see if you like the core combat mechanics; that's the best I can suggest.

Oh man you guys. I really want to thank you for being so cool and helpful. Makes me really excited to be a Vita owner. What a great community. I'll probably end up getting Spelunky for sure. And damnit..it's my birthday next week. I think I'll get DJ MAX despite the price. Been watching videos on Youtube and it looks like so much fun.

I bought the game just going on the fact that physical copies were hard to find. Didn't know anything about how it played or the tracklist aside from there being a couple of KARA songs. Put the cart in my Vita and just fell in love with it. It's really a shame about the series' future being in jeopardy.

Spelunky is a good choice too. Difficult, but addictive. Both it and DJMAX should keep you entertained for a while.

Yeah I just bought both. Letting them download now. I feel like those + all the other stuff I have, should keep me busy for months.

50h of Persona 4 already logged and if still feels a long way until it's over. I'm loving it so much more than P3. Teddie is quite the character!
