Downsampling for AMD cards is now possible

This is my beef using a lightboost monitor and don't know how to make it go to 120hz or 100hz.

jediyoshi big thanks for the guide and it took shorter than it did with my gtx 460. This 7950 is too awesome.

Can anyone help LCGeek and I with getting this to work with a 120hz (or 144hz) refresh rate? I would assume the refresh rate is one of the hex segments, just don't know which one.

Trying to go from 1080p to 1440p btw.

A quick question to people who use this: Can it also be used to upscale sub-native resolutions for games my computer can't handle at 1080p, thereby not having to rely on my monitor's shitty upscaling?

guys the box where says "hide modes this monitor can't display" is unticked but it's also greyed out, i have a ue55f7000 smart tv samsung, in my precedent hdtv from 2007 i used downsampling with my 5850 from 1360x768 to 2560x1440. I can do the same with that greyed out box or i need another driver or something for my tv ?

AMD DOWNSAMPLING LIVES
(testing on 13.11 beta1)

You want the zip from here and follow instructions until it talks about registry editing
http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=9957265#post9957265

When I ran list.bat, it gave me adapterindex 0 and displayindex 5, so in the next step when you edit the values in customresolution.txt, I made those 0 and 5.

After that, I backed up my registry (just in case) and searched for ModeTimingOverrides (which led to ModeTimingOverrides_DVI_Conn12802 for me) and opened up the modify window

Check here
http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=9959536#post9959536

Click on spoiler under the setup you have and want to check the values and just match them up (they're all in order)

Rebooted and it's golden

Searching don't find anything, with "ModeTimingOverrides" O__O

i don't understand, the values for 2560x1440 are already setted! I have 1920x1080 like native resolution! And the values are already correct for 2560x1440 if i'm not wrong! What's wrong O_O ?

ok now works, i have two edid folder in regedit..

2540x1440 work perfectly but if i want to try 3840x2160 i must change only the register values or i must do the whole procedure from the start ?

luca_29_bg

nothing! 3840x2160 simply doesn't work, the screen goes garbage, and the driver video is restarted or crash to blue screen...

Sounds like more than the display can handle?

i suppose yes but strange, a tv full hd can't handle 3840x2160 that is multiple of 1080p ? Someone with a pc connected to a smart tv samsung can confirm this ? My old hd ready 1360x768 from 2007 is capable to handle maximum 2560x1440 and a full hd tv from 2013 do the same? Damn :(

All of this seems too much hassle compared to simply uninstalling one's current drivers, installing 12.1 Beta drivers, running the original tool and setting up the desired resolutions, and then installing the current drivers.

Worked perfectly fine for me.

  1. Uninstall your current drivers with AMD uninstall tool.
  2. Reboot
  3. Install 12.1 Beta drivers
  4. Run the tool and create the desired resolutions
  5. Install the latest AMD drivers

Didn't work for me either (it actually just changed my resolution back during installation), at least not starting at beta 13.x drivers. Which did you test specifically?

• Import your modified 123.reg to registry.
• Reboot

What card do you have? It might be the GPU that can't handle anything over 1440p. I know both the 6xxx and 5xxx series can't do anything over that resolution regardless of memory.

Really? Hmm interesting, I might give it a shot, with the latest 13.11 betas?

I downgrade to the 12.11 beta drivers, use the tool, and then install the newest 13.9 drivers. Haven't tried the 13.11 beta drivers, but I suspect there won't be any hassle when I try it later today.

My 6950 does 1440p and 2160p perfectly fine.

2160p on a 6950? Hmm. I couldn't get anything higher than 1600p on that card. Upgraded to 7970 for the 4K resolution, but haven't tried this new way to Downsample yet. Couldn't get 4K to work with the Downsampling GUI. Don't think anyone knows the right values for the GUI.

Yeah I thought this ended with 13.8 or something? I'm still using 13.6 because of this so I can keep my resolutions made with the GUI.

Is there any reason why I can't find anywhere examples on how to downscale to lower resolutions like 900p? Technical limitation of the new drivers?

i have an 7950 and i suppose in my case is my display that can't display anything over 2560x1440 , but in my case driver crashed too...

I'll stand corrected in saying that it's actually 1600p and not 1440p (I'd forgotten that bit of info) but I'm sure I've never read anything on any AMD cards prior to the 7xxx series being able to do above that resolution (from one card).

I apologize that I wasn't clear - it is perfectly possible to play @ 2160p in windowed mode, but not in fullscreen.

1440p works perfectly fine in both windowed and fullscreen.

I got one one AMD 6950 2GB card (too), connected to my 1080p display via a DVI connector. Since I don't tick the 'GPU Scaling' option in the CC panel (for Downsampling to work), I think my display has issues with higher resolution?

Tried with 1920x1080@2720x1530 in Dota 2, It appeared to work (before I had other issues with my PC and had to terminate the executable file from the task manager).

Whenever I click on 2560x1440 in display properties my ASUS monitor shows Out of Range. Any help?

Edit: I'm using Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)

EDIT 2: Did the regedit way and it works like a charm :)

Okay, here's a question: How can I get this happening for portrait mode? I have no idea where to start, but I can tell that when I 'tate using the CCC, the custom resolutions completely disappear.

Edit: Never mind. Those options only disappear if I rotate using the CCC. If I do it using the Windows display control panel, it keeps them. Phew!

Thread Resurrection:

I'm having a problem with a squished vertical display (and letterbox) when I downsample from 1440 to 1080. I think the problem might be the hex (is it hex?) not including a change for the HDisplay value in the registry. When I run LIST.bat, it says I have an HDisplay value of 1680. I'm guessing I'd want that to say 1920. Does anyone know a fix for this?

EDIT: I actually found the solution on my own (always happens like that -- spend an hour on a problem; discover the solution minutes after posting). The HDisplay value was wrong in the spoiler section of that site. The correct value for the HDisplay section is "80 07" when downsampling from 2560 to 1080. Hopefully this post will help someone else in my predicament.

Passing along some troubleshooting I ended up doing.

Between either upgrading from win 8 -> 8.1 or updating my drivers, my extra resolutions disappeared. Using the last method, running Create_Custom_Resolution.bat just immediately created resolutions that didn't work. You can delete these using the program in the OP.

Before doing the next bits you probably want to back up your whole registry or at the very least make sure you have some way of getting windows to start in safe mode just in case. Nothing too bad can happen though since they're just registry edits that you can quickly reset in safe mode.

In your registry, find and delete all keys starting with ModeTimingOverrides_

Now redo the steps from the last method (running Create_Custom_Resolution.bat will create another key named ModeTimingOverrides_<something>) like usual.

I can't get downsampling to work for the life of me. I have tried everything except for installing the older drivers.

I just tried the regedit hack as well.

I cannot get any resolutions higher than 1080p to show up.

Can anyone who has gotten this to work say if they use multiple monitors? I have 3 monitors on my setup and curious if that is the problem.

I also use an LG hdtv for my computer monitor, could that be the problem?

Any tips on where to keep going from here? I'm on windows 8.1 with latest catalyst drivers. Just got an R9 290 so kind of want to keep the latest drivers.

Finally got around to setting this up. Works great. Pretty straight forward and easy to implement. Running 2560x1600 on Catalyst 13.12 drivers. On the list here there is no option for 2720x1700. Does anyone know these registry values? Reason I ask is because it was the highest I could achieve with my 7970/monitor using the GUI previously.

Also can you only create one custom resolution at a time using this method or can you create multiple?

Don't use AMD uninstall tool on Win 8. It will mess with your registry settings and you won't be able to do a factory reset unless you have a restore point.

Yeah, the AMD tool is widely known (at least on guru3d) to be quite shit and possibly dangerous. When I used to run it, it would remove all video drivers fine, but set the default display to the onboard one which obviously doesn't have a display connected to it.

The best uninstaller I've found is DDU, which can be found on Guru3D's website :)

Yeah found that out the hard way after upgrading to windows 8 a few months ago. Hosed the installation.. Thankfully my USB install of W8 pro fixed it and I didn't lose anything.
