Frankly I am not surprised, or even really shocked. There is obviously demand for both consoles, Xbox One hardly flopped out of the gate.

But Sony did throw together a machine of well-oiled hype going into launch. Fever pitch stuff at some points. For the moment they got that mindshare, and are being rewarded for it.

Execs go marching one by one hurrah?

Wait. The ps4 isnt out in japan? Okay im very intrigued to see how itll do there. If console gaming is dead anymore it is japan. Really want those quirky innovative japanese titles to come back, man.

Do i see 4.5M by end of 2013 ?

They forgot 3 days 100k per day that would be interesting.

I see them hitting 6M by the end of this month.

Xbox One - 3 Million for 2013
PS4 - 4.2 Million for 2013

Do you guys still think the Xbox One sales are impressive? I wouldn't say there were bad, but just "good enough". PS4's success is astronomical.

so does this number let us back into an NPD estimate yet?

That's 2.1 Million as of Dec 3. so, since then 2.1 more Million worldwide. Missing data for 3 days in December as well, so let's say ... 4.4 Million... At least half of that is North America I'd say, so PS4 would be near 1 Million if not more in the U.S.

So the PS4 has a 40% lead over Xbone out of the gate while being completely supply constrained. Is it time for MS to panic yet? The Xbone is going to get killed in 2014 at this rate.

I fully expect a $100 price cut announced before or at E3. They can't let this pace continue.

I'm assuming that they had no more shipments left for the year by Dec 28th, the reason for the arbitrary cut off day.

More JRPGs plz

OK, I LOL'd hard at this.

Remember we are going to see a revival of PS2 era jRPGs, right Sony....RIGHT?!

Great numbers, I'm really shocked they sold that many with such little supply in the US from what I've seen. That Amazon 24 hour spree must have been at least 500k systems, direct shipped...

Like "most" hardware launches, They are always front-loaded. E3 will be amazing to watch but the real battle is this year.

So, why did Sony only expect to sell 5m by March? Underestimated demand? Didn't think they could meet the demand?

Because the console market is dead. Didn't you hear?

I think they expected to sell well, but not this well. They probably thought their supply was going to meet demand

it make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside having both of these consoles sell well and congrats sony now give me some fucking games to play please

That's an impressive number. I'm somewhat glad the more consumer-friendly approach has been rewarded with higher sales.

Didn't know future speculating was a serious career.

I'm a wannabe game dev.

Consoles are where I love to game. I want to see that market grow every generation. This gen is projected to be the first contraction since the market crash in 1983. This contraction is projected to be on the order of 100 million units. This is bad thing.

For perspective, PS4's sold almost 40% more than Xbox One. If this continues this year, MS will definitely drop price sooner than later.

Edit: Damn my math.

That is like being second to Usain Bolt , no shame in it, not much you can do... just be glad to have him in your sights.

It depends on how the drought of games goes for the system and whether there is a big drop in sales but I don't see a dramatic drop to justify the price drop.

Plus, they sold Xbox One's realllly fast... at some point,

Yes they are still good. Throw in Wii U to put both numbers into perspective of BAD sales.

maybe, but things can change a lot in a year. the psp was outselling the ds in their first year too. it's definitely looking good for sony though.

That 5m by March ( 3m in 2013 ) statement as another hook to make the competition think they could only produce so many units lmao. Sony loves doing that kind of stuff.

Just so happens the original 2013 mark was 3m and that is exactly what MS hit too lol. But nope, Sony had a trick up their sleeves yet again and produced 1.2m more then expected.

The 5m by march number is completely out the window now. It could be 6m by the time the system launches in Japan.

There is only 1 site out there that had 4.2 million many days ago for the PS4 number ... cough .... lol

30%+
I know he meant graphics power there, but still funny to apply it to sales, don't you think?

The funny thing is that the numbers are almost really fitting with the power of each console.

PS4 have around 30% more sales than Xbox One. The Wii U has all around low sales.
