So what powers could the monster have?
- Optical camouflage
- Climb walls
- Stick to ceilings
- Teleportation
- Super-strength
- Tremendous HP
- Health regeneration
- Long-distance jump
- Limited hover/flight
- Area-of-effect attack
- Heat-seeking attack
- Set up traps (I.E. mines)
- See in the dark
- See through walls
- Access vents, etc
- Radar (Mario Chase-style)
That last idea would've made this great for WiiU, lol
The thing looks kind of like Doomsday, it would be awesome if it adapted like him too. So it would evolve powers specifically to resist whatever was attacking it.
The ability to spawn minions or decoys would be cool. And I'd think that the ability to incapacitate players for some amount of time would be quite useful. Or you could just throw them to the other side of the map while you're eating their friends.
I think it would be great if they took a cue from Team Fortress 2 and gave the four members of the team unique abilities. They could all have weapons for self-defense, but for example, if the monster has optical camouflage as one of its abilities, one member of the team might be tasked with brandishing a "de-cloaking device" that charges up and releases a pulse to disrupt the invisibility of the monster if it's nearby. The other players would then have to watch out for the player using the de-cloaking device, since he wouldn't be able to defend himself while using it.
That's just one example. There could be various tools at the players' disposal to help locate the monster or elude it. And then the monster would have to make clever use of its abilities to get to the players. One neat trick might be if the monster can create noises faraway, distracting the players and getting them to cautiously approach one corner, when unbeknownst to them the monster is actually behind them.
Or walk through walls, or just be able to bust through them like Nemesis, only not scripted.
Just wanted to carry over these ideas (from me and others) to the next page. I want to hear more ideas for monster powers! That would be amazing! Maybe the monster can have a "listen" mode like Joel in The Last of Us, where it can see the silhouettes of players on the other side of the wall... and maybe the monster can see cracks in the wall that indicate a breakthrough point for Nemesis-style ambushes (and the points could be randomized from one match to another, so as not to become predictable to players who memorize the map).
