So what powers could the monster have?

- Optical camouflage
- Climb walls
- Stick to ceilings
- Teleportation
- Super-strength
- Tremendous HP
- Health regeneration
- Long-distance jump
- Limited hover/flight
- Area-of-effect attack
- Heat-seeking attack
- Set up traps (I.E. mines)
- See in the dark
- See through walls
- Access vents, etc
- Radar (Mario Chase-style)

That last idea would've made this great for WiiU, lol

The thing looks kind of like Doomsday, it would be awesome if it adapted like him too. So it would evolve powers specifically to resist whatever was attacking it.

The ability to spawn minions or decoys would be cool. And I'd think that the ability to incapacitate players for some amount of time would be quite useful. Or you could just throw them to the other side of the map while you're eating their friends.

I think it would be great if they took a cue from Team Fortress 2 and gave the four members of the team unique abilities. They could all have weapons for self-defense, but for example, if the monster has optical camouflage as one of its abilities, one member of the team might be tasked with brandishing a "de-cloaking device" that charges up and releases a pulse to disrupt the invisibility of the monster if it's nearby. The other players would then have to watch out for the player using the de-cloaking device, since he wouldn't be able to defend himself while using it.

That's just one example. There could be various tools at the players' disposal to help locate the monster or elude it. And then the monster would have to make clever use of its abilities to get to the players. One neat trick might be if the monster can create noises faraway, distracting the players and getting them to cautiously approach one corner, when unbeknownst to them the monster is actually behind them.

Or walk through walls, or just be able to bust through them like Nemesis, only not scripted.

That would be amazing! Maybe the monster can have a "listen" mode like Joel in The Last of Us, where it can see the silhouettes of players on the other side of the wall... and maybe the monster can see cracks in the wall that indicate a breakthrough point for Nemesis-style ambushes (and the points could be randomized from one match to another, so as not to become predictable to players who memorize the map).
Just wanted to carry over these ideas (from me and others) to the next page. I want to hear more ideas for monster powers!

Rather than mowing down tons of cannon fodder, your primary (perhaps only) target is a player-controlled monster, .

I'd hold off on this.
I honestly don't see how they could make the game without other enemies.
I imagine the Evolved Alien will have cannon fodder he can control for diversions and such.

Hasn't something not too different from this been included in numerous other fps among various other multiplayer modes ?
Then again, I could never understand what ppl saw in l4d, I guess this is just not for me

I wonder how structured the missions will be. Will it just be "drop 4 dudes in the jungle, go kill a monster" or will it be something like "you need to access the silo that contains the weapon that can kill the monster for good so do objectives A, B and C with the monster harrying you the entire time."

The amount of frusturation over a video game being made that isn't what someone wanted is staggering. It's one thing if it's a franchise being milked for all it's worth, but this is a new IP with a still relatively underutilized gameplay formula. I just...

I just don't get it.

That's an interesting idea, actually. Kind of like the Cloverfield monster with its "body lice." Perhaps the monster, as it evolves, can generate smaller monsters that serve as cannon fodder for the players, flushing them out of hiding or distracting them while the monster plots its next move. Perhaps the monster allows the player to be the "AI director," in a sense.

It might be a combination of everything, actually. If it's campaign-based like L4D, the earlier stages might have an elusive, human-sized monster hiding from (and opportunistically picking off) the other players... then as it grows stronger, it goes on the offensive more often... and then it gains the ability to spawn enemy AI that serves as cannon fodder... and then it becomes Godzilla!

This is a good point. The monster might be able to keep respawning until the players fulfill certain conditions that defeat it for good.

Sounds really cool, would love to see the game in motion when it gets polished up a bit, not too fond of that boxart tho.

Some were right on the money about the game being Evolve. Sounds interesting. Can't wait for my GI and to see more about the game. PS4 players, prepare to be squished!

It looks boring, and probably washed out in a dark/overly brown environment. I also don't like these kinds of multiplayer shooters. They are never fun, and I've always had bad experiences with them.

There.

I do hope it's done well though. I know many friends who will be playing this, and I do want them to have fun with it.

I wonder if the evolution will work to that regard.
Like kill him with an assault rifle he comes back with skin armor etc.
Also they better have ways to separate the survivors, and attack them when grouped.
Survivors were Op as fuck in L4D when grouped. It almost needs cannon fodder to stop this e.g. Boomer. This game has a lot of possibility.

I think we now know why Take Two bid 11 million on it.

Agree 100%. It is rather strange how people are disappointed it's not the game they wanted, especially given how it is a new IP from a Dev whose previous game has similarish gameplay.

The people writing it off as "another generic fps" crack me up as well considering so little is known about the game.

Ehhh its cool but its not Fallout 4. This really isn't something that would make me run out and get a next gen console.

Eh, I think this is a lot more interesting. The many VS one concept hasn't really been explored much outside of some mods, and let's face it: Fallout 4 will be Fallout 3 with shinier graphics aka Skyrim with guns.

Oh, and both this and Fallout 4 will be on PC anyway, so no need to get that next-gen console for those.

I'm imagining each match starting off like Predator and ending like Godzilla. The idea makes me straight up giddy.

Your reply could be worthwhile if you wrote out WHY you disliked these kind of shooters or WHY you always had bad experiences with them, but as it stands you're just making empty complaints. Why even bother posting?

What exactly have you seen? "Probably washed out", how could you possible know that?

Sure, let's all judge a game we know nothing about!
I think some of us are just being hard because they were hyping this up as something that'd stir people into a frenzy, but I suspected even at best it'd not be anything I'd get TOO excited for. Was hoping it'd be a bit more interesting though, but I like the idea of it.

Same, would love to hear friends panic as they realize they weren't taking cover behind a really big rock, but rather that thing

Because I wanted to, that's why. I don't like shooters because I don't find them challenging. any kind of 4-player multiplayer, I always seemingly get coupled with people who only care about themselves and don't want to play with a team mentality, also on top of that, I get tired of hearing everyone else always complaining at each other about how terrible of a job others are doing, or people who drop out of games if they know they aren't going to win. I get tired of that shit.

Probably is a modifier for a it PROBABLY will, as in, as I have yet to see anything, knowing how these things so, these kinds of games usually have that kind of presentation. I don't possibly know, but I'm sure I have a pretty good idea.

GameInformer needs to stop. I have a feeling if they didn't hype it up and say people would flip out, the response would be much better.

It has the potential to be unique and fun from a proven developer. The response should be more than "meh"

but alas, GameInformer probably kills another game before it even had a chance just because they're attention whores

All I see is green, since you know the jungle and all.

What if killing a survivor turns them into a much weaker mini alien turning the final parts of the game into a 1 v 5 survivor horror showdown.

Wow
so excite
much speculation

Another online multiplayer only FPS? That market is going to be crowded this gen. The next MMO type of failures?

ANOTHER FIRST PERSON SHOOTER FOCUSING ON MULTIPLAYER PLEASE BE EXCITED.

Fuck this gens publishers. Fuck em all for never doing anything different or at least single player focused without a gun. Fuck folks for forgetting how great 3rd person hand to hand combat is in games.

Sick of all this shit. I never have anything to look forward to in games these days.

Check out Shadow Warrior, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, and Last Light. They all came out this year and are all fantastic, single player shooters.

Count the amount of games with either 3rd person or 1st person gun combat released in a year. Was this shit needed? Do we really need more? Seriously, sick of this shit. Stop paying attention to these things. Remember the old Devil May Cry games? Remember when 3rd person had a sword? Remember when games weren't put together mainly for multiplayer shlock with a gun and they focused on rewarding and LASTING EXPERIENCES in single player?

Yeah I cant either anymore. They've been shoveling this shit with both hands for so long I cant even see around it anymore to any games that might be different. From now on if they tease a cover or ANYTHING it should come with warnings about FPS or gunplay focused combat being involved. Bored to fucking tears these days.

At least the multiplayer I do use in Fighting games has some fucking depth to it thats deeper than run and shoot or hiding and even those games I go on record daily as saying they need to put FAR more single player content into them like MK9 did (which wasn't even that good combat wise).
