The amount of salt over this list from some is laughably pathetic.
Great job with this Shinobi, much appreciated.

If it's any consolation I doubt this will be a mirror of a "best of list" even when factoring out delays/surprise games: some of these games we're more excited to get, but may not ENJOY most and may even know this. I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up enjoying Bayonetta 2 more than half the games on my list, but it's not one I'm really chomping to play for whatever reason or have a particularly inclination to want to get sooner than later. Nevermind that some games just end up disappointing, I imagine Dragon Age Inquisition COULD have been way higher had it not been for DAII being such a massive disappointment, nevermind that even in a best case scenario I think some of us are just tired of or put off by Bioware and would rather go to something like the Witcher III for our story driven WRPG fix.
It's completely surreal that the 2nd most anticipated game looks like this.

All we know about Persona 5 is five chairs and some chains.
I just don't get the hype for Destiny at all. It looks boring.
Bungie has some of the best first person shooter heritage around. New IP they've been working on for 4+ years with customization, exploration, co-op, loot, PvP, etc? What's not to love?
^Well, I mean, you're certainly entitled to that opinion.
That's just because it's not perceived as a PC centric franchise anymore.GAF putting a PC centric franchise @ #1? Colour me surprised.
I would actually put Titanfall far more higher in that chart. Then again The Order & Titanfall being in the top 10 is more what I'd expect from here.
... that E3 playthrough looked like "every other pseudo-MMO ever made" to me, only prettier.
I had flashbacks from Borderlands, Tabula Rasa and similar stuff during the whole presentation... And consequently I was quite bored just watching at it, as those aren't games I ever liked.
Yup. Oh well, at least it's #2. ^^Expected Dark Souls II on 1st, GAF you disappoint me.
Some of us favour gameplay, atmosphere and art direction over shiny FX and astronomical pixel counts. *shrugs*It's completely surreal that the 2nd most anticipated game looks like this.

The Order, on the other hand... No idea of what's doing here.
:
Well, half of that may be the platforms of choice too: PS4 and XB1. It's in a position much like Oblivion on 360: a true nextgen game, no compromises to fit last gen, that will be out within the first year, even a similar time frame (spring/summer.) So PC gamers get a hot new WRPG from a developer that's been very good to them, and people on next-gen consoles either get a hot new RPG to flex next-gen or at least can wait out upgrading their computers awhile longer in favor of playing on consoles (depending on packages I do intend to initially get on PS4... then on PC whenever down the road.)That's just because it's not perceived as a PC centric franchise anymore.
Chances are that If it wasn't multiplatform you wouldn't see anywhere near the top.

The only thing I'm surprised by these lists is Destiny, it looks really boring and generic. No idea what people see in this game.
Maybe when they will show something about how it actually plays.A brand new Sony 3rd person action shooter IP set in a steampunk version of an alternate-history Victorian-era London being developed by two very reputable game studios seems like a pretty damn good reason for it to be on the list. .

Fingers crossed for competent dungeon crawling in Persona 5.
You know what's better than a Persona game with awesome social links? A Persona game that has awesome social links AND good dungeon crawling.

I have to admit of the top ten games that's probably the one I'm least interested in. That initial trailer sure looked nice, but it SOUNDS so far like it's going to be a more or less by the numbers "action adventure", and not how I want that term to actually be used (Zeldalikes.) I may still like it a lot, and maybe it'll even surprise me, but you make a novel setting like that and I want FREEDOM in it, not just for it to be the theme of the park ride as it were. From what I can gather thus far it looks to be like your typical third person action shooter with cover base mechanics with of course its own set of bells and whistles.
edit:
I'd also like to add the game seems to be aiming for a very dark and atmospheric setting in regards to locations, lighting etc.
Case in point:

I mean sure, we have yet to see a lot from the game, but when you take under consideration Sony' track record with their first party IP' in recent years, there's a good chance this game is going to live up to its hype.
Dude it's just an MP FPS with mechas thrown in and maybe some real objectives/story, and 4 out of 10 of those games are new IP anyway.Titanfall got robbed. Well, so much for original games.
Well, I was thinking more about the lower part of my list admittedly when I said that, though even the top part could shuffle some potentially (maybe I got too hyped up on SC, maybe Dark Souls II is too by the numbers, maybe Witcher 3 blows me away far more than I'm seriously expecting) but that's probably more set in stone and bound to be filling the top 5 on my 2014 list at worst pending something going terribly awry. The lower part of my list though I do feel is more just games I'd like to play most, or want most for whatever reason, but am expecting won't necessarily be the ones I enjoy most, either topped by thing I know I'd enjoy but just didn't get excited for, completely forgot (oh yeah, we'll probably see Persona Q!) or whatever.Guess I'm the opposite. I'm already preempting X, Bayo 2 or Persona Q to be my top 1, 2, and 3 for my GotY 2014 list. Don't know what order. It's hard for me to be hyped for anything if you fail to get me hyped the first time so in a flash, about 20 games in our top 30 are no good to me.
If I do end up with a PS4 and a good PC later this year, Order 1886 and Witcher 3 will probably be on my list.
I played The Witcher 2 and Dark Souls is what's so funny. The games are so far apart in quality they shouldn't be that close to eachother, let alone with Witcher on top. Maybe if Dark Souls 2 was PS4/XB1/PC.... goddamn you Japanese developers lagging behind on tech.
It's completely surreal that the 2nd most anticipated game looks like this.
Does it matter?
I'm just observing what a rare occurrence it is. How often do trend-bucking low budget titles beat AAA games in popularity contests?
Well, this probably is a more hardcore place than a general vote would be at a place like IGN or GameSpot (I typoed GameStop but if they held such a poll amongst shoppers it'd count too, nevermind GameInformer), plus I think at least as far as what "looks good" (seperate from what's impressive) we've probably reached the point of diminishing returns. It was easy to make a last gen game look like complete garbage visually immediately with a new generation, but this time I think the things that'll hold them back more are lower resolutions/frame rates on current consoles, and just being played on a good PC instantly puts them toe to toe with many of the next gen games we'll be seeing in the near future. But maybe I'm less discriminating, I know some people will nitpick the visuals like crazy whereas I tend not to care so long as it's reasonably smooth/sharp and not overtly hideous artistically or technically. Probably helps I do play a fair share of handhelds though.I'm just observing what a rare occurrence it is. How often do trend-bucking low budget titles beat AAA games in popularity contests?
Trails in the Sky SC didn't.Yes Wasteland 2 just makes it!
Knew my vote would count for something. Bravo Gaf!
One last shot, huh^
I don't think it was that heated accept for one person. Besides, isn't bitching about top ten lists a normal thing. But I agree it was moving in a bad direction and sorry for my part in it.
Now, down to business. The Witcher at #1, Blech! Two was such an overrated game. After all the the praising the combat received, I was shocked how janky it was. While I do welcome some fresh blood in the open world, I think I'd put Dragon Age above it.
Titanfall got robbed. Well, so much for original games.
Other than mechs, what else does it do that Unreal Tournament hasn't done before?
That's not meant as a derogative remark per se, as UT99+03 are one of my favorite games, but I just don't see what's supposed to be so original with Titanfall.
Great list, any of those games has GOTY potential* and we shouls be excited that so many amazing games werent included.
*Not Watch_dogs, that looks boring.
