This show is exactly how you'd imagine it to be, that is, if you've aware that Umetsu is the director and you're aware of his body of work. It features all his trademarks such as: patented Umetsu character designs including orange haired girl, fanservice/general pervyness and totally bonkers action scenes. In other words, it's all pretty anime.
As other's in the thread have said, it's really feels like a relic of the 90's action OVA boom rather than something from the present. It almost completely ignores current hot otaku bait such as little girls that need protecting and instead focuses on, erm, barristers? Or discrimination? Or something? Anyway, let's talk about what makes Umetsu action so recognisable.
Anime, being a medium unbound by physics, is generally a pretty cool place to have an action scene because of that freedom. Yet, anime action scenes have a tendency to err towards reality with flashes of exaggeration. Umetsu, on the other hand, has so qualms about going completely nuts. For example, he's partically found of people ragdolling out hilariously and flying a million miles like some kind of videogame. Also please note that Umestu is actually using the whole depth of the frame to bring action from the background into the foreground to ratchet up the intensity:
Speaking of which, Umetsu is also a fan of lots of collateral damage to structures and objects and so you tend to see debris go flying everywhere which is actually pretty expensive to do. Of course, we can't forget that Utemu also enjoys stuff exploding (and I mean really EXPLODING) and flying around in a completely over the top manner with tons of unnecessary details all over the place. It's really quite glorious:
Still, Umetsu doesn't like to skip on minor details and so he still remembers to make action scenes intense by focusing on characters faces/eyes for great reactions:
There really is no-one around who makes action scenes quite as silly or over the top as Umetsu so it's good to see him back in his groove. What I feel less comfortable with is the tone of the show.
Wizard Barristers would seem like the kind of show that would focus entirely on goofy and generally light-hearted material. Instead it's actually trying to be about weighty themes like justice and discrimination and stuff. None of that really seems to gel with the direction of the show or how crazy everything in the show is (did you guys see that Judges gavel?) and so it feels like this conflict between what the show is actually like and what the story is trying to be will cause problems further down the line.
Oh yeah, the effects animation is pretty legit too.

I think the plan must have been to try to get them to break the club by battling for positions, which it almost felt like, but it did go into an unexpected route
. Episodes like these really make school club anime entertaining and exciting and emotional.

thought we were going to get another girl power episode which would have been nice if it had been Oracle Think Tank, but instead just good understanding from everyone and Naoki really getting inspired and such to be asst capt

Umetsu animes are usually quite pretty and have a very distinct style.

Wizard Barristers - Liked this. My favourite new non seki-kun show. Did not expect to see police profiling and anti wizard discrimination in there. Nor the court to be so ominous in its death penalty no appeals stuff.nA really interesting setting based on one episode.
Seki-kun 2 - More awesome. Still my favourite new show. Also don't give that girl Game of Thrones. Her brain would xplode.

Agreed. We didn't wait this long just to watch more training episodes.
I would have forgiven this adaptation if it was 26 eps but i'm worried with only 13
Problems? Complete lack of self-awareness comes with the 90s package baby!
Besides the... eh... gimmicky nature of the entire show, if you can get behind it the only thing I see being a downer is if it eventually goes down into outsourcing hell.

This is so stupid. It's like a shitty mix of two different genres. The animation is extremely good at times.
It's like a tone deaf work that doesn't really know what it wants. Then you have the mismatched OST at times along with some weirdly directed scenes and it's just a mess.

Actually i read this part in the manga and since it wasn't that important and the focus would had been on the nationnals i kinda wanted them to jump into the heart of the matter.
At this rate we'regoing to have : Nationnals (13 eps ) + 1 or 2 speciials , Nationals final chapters oavs or another season.
They are like ...making me wait !
