NPD Sales Results for December 2013 [Up2: Xbox One/360 HW, 3DS top system of year]

Canada's NPD sales figures are usually about 1/10th of US figures, for what it's worth.

Tracked separately. The numbers in this thread don't include Canada.

Also, NPD Canada reports are completely separate. Subscribers to NPD's USA service doesn't necessarily mean they get Canada as well.

Considering Canada is a much smaller territory than the USA, much less emphasis is put on it because success in that market isn't nearly as critical.

The Sony brand is finally over! Maybe next deca.............ah fuck it. Still early days, but I predict both to be fairly even for the foreseeable future.

The XBOX brand has strong mindshare in NA. The brand has definitely weakened, but less so than the UK and Europe.

Considering that those other 11 countries are smaller than Spain and France sales wise, I'd say that it was pretty unbelievable.

Even if it adds up to only 600k (or an average of 50k), it would still be around 2.8 million. I wouldn't say that would be low enough to call Microsoft out on lying. Just that their estimates are slightly different than NPD's.

I think I'm most impressed with the 360 numbers. WTG Microsoft.

Yep. I don't think the Xbox One numbers are that good. 360 numbers though are great. MS will continue to own the US for quite awhile. Moreso if they'd drop the damn price already. 300 dollars MSRP for the 250 gig unit is nuts.

Based on the fact that xbox1 had a bigger Black Friday and a bigger Holiday, going by the numbers.

I'm really not interested in getting dragged into a console slapfight, so this is a one and doner.

We don't have Sony's PS4 numbers yet, but we can assume since they're still leading, it's around 800k. And that's supremely supply constrained.

Microsoft had a bigger BF and December because the supply met demand (and if you wanted to take into account anecdotal evidence, exceeded demand), while Sony had to divert stock to here.

Take into account that, while both consoles had gargantuan launches that the PS4 basically had an unprecedented demand should tell a whole different story than the one you're trying to paint.

tldr; I have no clue what on earth you're talking about because you're not coming in with a full deck

On a positive note, Nintendo will definitely drop the Wii U's price again.

Zing.

Jokes aside, Nintendo's misfortune makes me sad. The great and unexpected success of DS and Wii seemingly made them rest on their laurels. I hope they'll be find a workable strategy to recover some market share, soon.

I see that even if Wii U sales are around 500k (which I don't think it will happen) some people are preparing the backup story. Oh, forget December, let's talk about January!
I would say let see first if it still breathes before kicking it again.

It's funny how we have come to expect such poor numbers from the Wii U that some people are crossing their fingers for 500k. The PS3's second December was just shy of 800k in 2007, and many people on GAF were calling that a horrible performance.

Isn't it a bad sign that Xbone sales didn't increase over Nov, despite plenty of stock?

PS4's sales don't mean much since nobody can even buy the damn thing.

No, it's perfectly normal for a post-launch December to be low (vs. a normal Dec increase). 908k is a new record for 2nd month sales of a console.

Well when the Wii U was only pushing 50k a month.. 500k sounds quite good..

You have issues then hate/love relationship lol

Nah. I'm just a 32 yr old rational gamer that can separate my love for the hobby and fanboyism.

In all honesty, I'm not particularly fond of any of the major manufacturers except maybe Sony (who seem to be making stories towards legitimately improving the gaming experience in tangible ways).

I know, right? The only people who should breath a sigh of relief for 500K in December is Nintendo's PR team, so they can spin some silly statistics like "December was the best EVER sales performance for the Wii U! The momentum continues to grow for the console as we get it back on track to recovery!"

All while completely ignoring the upcoming January crash.

So the over 3.0 million Xbox One units sold to customers was a lie...?

Its hard to believe it sold more consoles outside the US than in.

"PlayStation 4 remains the cumulative leader for next gen console sales in the US since the launch on November 15"

Well, that's the bit of information Major Nelson doesn't post on twitter.

I find it worrying for MS that the XB1 sold roughly the same that it did in Nov despites all reports suggesting ample supply of the console in the US.

That, and the fact that they were not as boastful as I would have expected them to be considering they beat Sony.

January NPD cannot come soon enough for me...

See above.

not by as many people as you would think. just some people keep going and going.

How so? I might be biased but I'm having trouble finding any hate in this thread and definitely not "so much" of.

I was off for 360 by around 100k, near 200k for XO

Could be close for PS4 and 3DS

Off for WiiU

And God knows for PS3/Vita

A mixed bag for my guessing skills

:(
but I will win bragging rights next time!

I can't believe this "3 million is a lie" thing is still going around.

50k France
100k Germany
28k Spain
68k Australia
364k UK
1.817 US

Thats 2.427 with 7 more countries to sell the other 573k. Most people are saying Canada is over 200k so that leaves 373k for 6 countries if so.

Yeah still plenty life left in 360. Still has titanfall to come.
