It was looking pretty damn good in November too.

Sucks that it's going to be February in a few days and we still haven't seen dick.

Yeah, SHOW DICK NOW !!!

Has 4 player co-op been confirmed yet though?

I mean there's actually so much they have to show. We need a huge re-unveiling of DriveClub, for example. They need to show off more of what inFamous is doing if they expect the hype to build. They need to show off what the Order is really going to play like, if it's going to be released by the Fall. And that's just the major shit they have announced, I obviously don't expect to see Uncharted since it's not coming this year.

But all the unannounced shit they have that they were strategically withholding because they realized how much of an advantage they already have over Microsoft? Well, they gotta spread that shit out. I hope they are smart and don't just wait for the major trade shows, because the back up of announcements is real now.

Getting to the point where I almost wish demand would fall off a cliff New Zealand style just to pressure them to show some stuff. They seem way too comfortable atm.

Yeah but at least we've seen something about DriveClub and inFamous, despite being the same thing over and over again. But yeah, I agree with you.

I think they should just show something in the beggining of every year to "re-ignite" the hype. Something like gameplay, new trailers for the games they're releasing in that exact same year. It would keep people from forgeting about the game or of letting the hype die.

I like the art direction, but I think the characters don't look different enough from each other in that first screenshot posted here.

I agree 100%.

Three of the main characters look too similar. That needs to be fixed. All they did was take a face model and change it up slightly (facial hair and some differences in the jaw). But that's about it.

Sure. Using different voices helps. But still. Too similar.

Look. There's Father with his two twin sons…. :\

Think it's one player only isn't it? I've been saying for ages Sony need their own 4 player co-op game and I think they've missed a huge opportunity if this isn't it. They should have done it with SOCOM's campaign.

I haven't been following The Order too closely but is there anything more to it than a steampunk Gears of War clone? Granted they haven't revealed anything substantial to go on, but those screens look like pretty standard stuff with more mustaches.

I mean... I agree that their face structure and some traits are similar (specially the eyes's shape), but they're also quite different if you actually look at them side by side.

Admittedly, they shouldn't be seen side by side to be able to notice the differences, but each design feels unique IMO.

To me, the two in the middle (Sir Galahad and the older one) are the most similar.

Yeah I think so too. I don't find them similar at all, but that's me.

The screens look nice. Is that a Gears of War style roadie run in one of the pics? I really want to see footage of this damn game!

But I wonder, is it off the damn Chains of Olympus, Mr. Barlog?

It's kind of ridiculous that we won't be finding out about potential 2014 releases until maybe E3 this year, or maybe they'll only have The Order and maybe Uncharted as their big releases (as in games with discs) ready for this fall.

They should hold another Destination PlayStation at the year anniversary of PS4 reveal where they can show off The Order, re-reveal Drive Club and demo an almost complete Infamous.

They are holding a Destination Playstation in February but I don't see why we should anticipate anything when that event is not for us.

anything coming in the fall will probably wait until E3. But yes, they need to start cranking on Infamous and Driveclub at least. And presumably they'll be showing some gameplay (or teaser of) for Uncharted at E3.

Maybe this year we'll actually have an E3 full of great games that doesn't disappoint everyone.

I think we might have another case of unauthorized actor face in videogame with the guy on the left. He looks exactly like Alberto Ammann. Also why no blondes? Developers nowadays really must hate blondes.

There's a resemblance, but for some reason I always felt that he looked similar to Andre Keegan.

You guys need to get your eyes checked if you can't tell them apart.

At this point there is so much shit they gotta show at E3 I hope Sony realizes it's too much and finds a way to show some things off before then, at GDC and whatnot. I honestly can't believe how long they're willing to let the gap go between showing anything more about the games already announced or the games surely coming in the future. It's not really good strategy to wait eight months between such things, so I hope they continue to be as smart as they have been and start the trickle sooner rather than later.

I think they're waiting for one big event where they can bascially have an info dump of what will be released in 2014. So they can have a gameplay reveal trailer, and release date announcements for the things the studios have ready to be released

So hypothetically the next big event could have,

-"The Order 1886" gameplay reveal trailer with a release date attached
-"The Last Guardian" re-reveal with a release date attached
-"DriveClub" new trailer with release date

That way they have the attention of the gaming press all at once (at one big event) rather than sparsing out announcements (a la Nintendo Directs)

Not a good reason.

"In our latest film, we wanted to emulate the experience of reading a book. The film consists of a hand turning a page in a very authentic fashion, complete with errant pages being affected by small gusts of wind and coffee spillages staining your page to provide the authentic book-reading experience."

All this focus on the "cinematic" aspect ratio(which is daft since the director needs to actually control the camera to utilize the scope ratio properly) and lens effects is just another example of endlessly chasing after the dream of being an entirely different form of media for no reason other than 'it looks cool'. Seems stupid to me, frankly.

Who's to say there wont be developer controlled shots of the camera during gameplay. Hell, that's what these interactive cinematic moments sound like. And I personally cant wait to see them played out.

Film is a visual medium, "games" are a visual and interactive medium. Nothing is being given up for something to look like a film here.

It amazes me at how bad SCE marketing is at building steady Hype for their titles. We live in the Internet age, where news is consumed voraciously and the lack of news creates its own news. Ten years ago it was fine for SCE to show up at E3, Gamecom, and TGS, announce games and expect them to sell. You could build a marketing plan just around major industry events. Today the events are still important, but the spaces between the events are equally important. When you ignore the spaces, bad things happen.

SCE has gone far too long without updates on MLB 14: The Show, DriveClub and The Order:1886. It's gone from me wondering if they were planning surprises, to realizing the marketing team just doesn't get it.

Well the problem as I've mentioned is they have SO MUCH STUFF as yet unannounced that is still meant to be 2014 and early 2015 that they need to space these things out, else risk having some of the games drowned out for attention. The risk of showing too much at one event is people will often forget some of the titles being unveiled, because a few titles are likely to get much more hype than the rest. And even just the stuff we know about with MLB, inFamous, DriveClub and The Order is seriously needing some dire media dumps. I mean, it's insane how little we know about DriveClub considering it was originally meant to be a launch game. (And what about the other games which to me are just as important, since I give fuck all about "AAA": Rime, Everyone's Gone to the Rapture, Shadow of the Beast, etc)

I don't think I can emphasize enough how much shit Sony has yet to announce, to say nothing of what we know is coming that has been seriously information deprived for gamers. neoGAF is going to melt if they unveil too much of it at one time, because it's SO MUCH.

My concern is I don't think they should wait for E3 to have a re-unveiling of some of the 2014 stuff at least. There's too much to do, and gamers need to have confidence in the health of the future lineup. If they wait too long, they risk people starting to lose a bit of interest. Between November when we had that little lame event that showed an Uncharted teaser and E3 is far too long. GDC is in between, and I expect we'll get some real news there. But if we don't, I'm going to start questioning their unveiling strategy. They don't need to showcase things that won't come out for years, but they do need a healthy steady flow of information on things coming out in 2014 so that people can have time to digest it all. It's a lot. A fuckload.

Unless everyone is completely lying about the stuff Sony has to unveil that is being shown behind scenes, I can't imagine this E3 will be disappointing. Sony would have to be a bit daft off the success of PS4 to risk losing some of the momentum because they want to play their cards too close to the chest forever.

I thought they'd start showing a bit more with the Spike TV things, but they jumped that event entirely. So GDC in March 17-21 is the next event I'll be playing close attention to. I know the future of PS4 is extremely healthy from everything I've been hearing about what's coming, but it'd be nice to actually see it confirmed with hands-on impressions or video trailers.

I haven't even heard of these "interactive cinematic moments". They sound...screw it, I cuss too much on this forum to begin with :/
Film is a visual medium, "games" are a visual and interactive medium. Nothing is being given up for something to look like a film here.

Film and games are geared towards providing incredibly different experiences, though, and games like this where the developer explicitly says their intent is to emulate a different medium just makes me ask, "Well, why not just make it a film?" I don't see what there is to gain from the point of view of this being a game by just making it look like a film. "Looks like a film" doesn't suddenly make your game more demonstrative of artisitc merit(and I suspect that's where a lot of the motivation for stuff like this comes from). And yes, something is being given up to make it look like a film here; namely, one third of my screen. Don't get me wrong, the scope ratio is wonderful when used properly, and brings a great sense of scope and geography to images where directors know what they are doing. When you, the player, are controlling the camera, none of that gets translated across with the ratio, so it's pointless. A game's strength is in its ability to immerse the player. Swiping a chunk of their screen strikes me as a piss-poor way to go about that.

Is it crazy to believe Sony might have some kind of event to show off the next three immediate big PS4 games (Infamous, DriveClub, The Order) right around the time EA/MS are dropping Titanfall?
Titanfall is a roaring train of hype tearing down the tracks now, but it couldn't hurt putting a few rocks on the tracks to keep momentum swinging towards PS4 sales. I just can't imagine Sony would allow MS & Titanfall to completely dominate headlines around the time of release.

IMO something in early March would be a great strategic move.
You make a big push a few weeks prior to Infamous releasing to get PS4 owners to absolutely want to buy this game, blow people away with a final build of DriveClub & a solid April/May release date, stress the fact that the PS4 Watch_Dogs will be the definitive multi-plat version to purchase in June (?), get the internet talking with a mind-blowing gameplay reveal of The Order, and maybe an E3 tease trailer of something like Uncharted and/or TLG.
That way GDC can concentrate on tech and indie titles, while E3 pushes late 2014 and 2015 releases.

Sony's been playing it smart in the past 12 months, but I agree with Amir0x. They are walking a pretty damn thin line by playing 'strategically' coy.

Or maybe they just want to show up at E3 and just flatten everyone with multiple anticipated game announcements and details. That would be a good strategy. They are being suspiciously quiet...

Not disagreeing, but each of the characters is based 100% on the actor portraying them. Their faces are lifted using those 3D modeling cameras that are all the rage right now.

I think Galahaad and the young one could have had more distinct facial hair stylings (Galahaad's looks like a thicker version of the young guy's) but their faces are pretty dissimilar up close. Unfortunately, from a distance all you notice is their white faces, dark hair, identical outfit, and similar facial hair.

"Well, why not just make it a film?".
I have to be honest, I absolutely hate this mind frame. People were probably saying the same damn thing in the earlry 1900's when film makers started to implement story into a film.

"Well, why not just make it into a book."

The truth is, no medium began as it is now, they've all changed, adapted, and evolved. Often with the assistance of other techniques foreign to them.

Also, immersion is the ultimate goal for anything and everything that is trying to tell a story regardless of medium. By your logic no one could ever be immersed by film with widescreen being the format either.

I feel about this the same way i felt about Wind Waked and cel-shade a decade ago.
Miyamoto wanted it to simulate that sense of watching a cartoon. In hindsight I think he achieved what he intended and I think the experience is better for it.

They are trying to emulate the sense of watching a high budget film. I want to see it done because frankly, we have never seen anything like it done before on this level of dedication.

It would make everyone go 'damn' if they did that for E3, since they have a metric fuckton of shit yet to be announced, but I don't think that'd actually be smart. Some of those announcements would inevitably be drowned out, it's too much (especially when you start to add all the announcements other companies will be making as well).

Sony has so much shit in their arsenal to announce it's starting to be insane to me. I know they have a plan since they've executed so well on everything on PS4, I just hope they spread it out a bit.

If they're looking for that cinematic story driven feel, I highly doubt there will be 4 player co-op.

MP, however would be awesome. That setting, those soft body physics. 4v4 The Order vs Werewolves sounds like it could have potential.

SORT THIS OUT, RAD!

I really hope that this game embraces the dark, macabre writings of the period. Stuff like that could work so well in a game but it's rarely used.

Yes and in the past years Sony always spread their announcements on the way to E3, the times are already long gone when a shit ton of stuff was revealed for the very first time at E3.

Maybe we'll get a PS4 heaven or something like that, Feb 21st 2014 would be nice! What would be even better is, if they'd announce this massive event 1 week in advance, so that GAF could make some new GIFs ;)

This game gives me some Nightmare Creatures vibes, I like!
