Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

I get about 75% to 85% mainly. It's strage everyone kept going on about how Mario Galaxy with Dolphin works great, so I go and get a 4670k i5 which is overclocked to 4.4GHz, then now I find out Mario Galaxy works fullspeed with no music or 80% 75%-85% with music. I wish people were more clear, oh well hopefully other Wii games work good.
What Dolphin version are you using? Mario Galaxy should run fine on that rig.
In order for the audio to play correctly, the game must run at a 100% speed, otherwise you'll get crackles, etc.

I ran into similar problems:

If I disable some effects and run sound via HLE it runs at 100% for me (660Ti + AMD 6300), but the level music doesn't play. So you switch to LLE, level music plays but the framerate crawls. You enable all effects, it slows down more...

My CPU isn't running at the same clock speed (3.5 -> 4.1 depending on turbo), but OTOH the system is at like 120% CPU (out of 600%) while dolphin's running. Infuriating.

My solution was to give up and play Xenoblade instead. That runs fine.

I'm using 4.0.2 which is the latest version. I have a 7870 2GB GPU and 4670k OC@4.4 CPU. Can you let me know te exact setting for Mario Galaxy 2

This is what I am using
General
- Enable Dual Core
- Enable Idle Skipping
- Framelimit AUTO
- JIT Recompiler

Audio
-DSP LLE Recompiler
-OpenAL

Graphics
- Direct3D11 (also tried Direct3D9)
- Fullscreen 1080p, 2.5x Native Resolution

For what it's worth, I found that I had much better performance in the Galaxy games using the 3.5.xxx versions of Dolphin.

Perhaps try one of the older ones?

For Graphics I used DX9, Full screen 1080p and render at auto(window size).

I didn't get perfect performance, but my CPU isn't as good as yours either.

From playing with the settings, I felt like it should be fixable -- probably via a different dolphin build. The lack of system resources in use was too suspicious... but I couldn't find the fix.

Will circle back around to it sooner or later...

How do I change the full screen resolution of a single game in the ini settings?
I tried
[Display]
FullscreenResolution = "1280x720" but I don't think that's right.

Just chiming in to say I have a laptop with a i7 4700MQ and it can run Wii games like Smash Bros and Xenoblade perfectly fine at full speed. I haven't tried Super Mario Galaxy or Skyward Sword, but I think it's likely you could tweak the settings so they're playable.

The graphics settings are all down to the graphics card; with a 765M, I can play at 1080p without any problems.
It seems that the i7 4700 MQ is much better for emulation than the i7 36xx Q.

Ive run every game on GC perfectly (Resident Evil 4 is a solid 60), how much more demanding are Wii games?

Just tried to get this Dolphin thing working, but so far I'm failing to actually connect the Wiimote with my PC. I press 1+2, it gets recognized by my computer, I try to pair it (via BlueSoleil), than it asks for a PIN code..? Tried not inputting anything, 0, 1... didn't work.

going from memory here but you can and should select "pair without using a code" (or something like that)

Delroth has provided us a CPU benchmark for Dolphin that requires no games.
Follow the instructions in the thread and post your results on the Dolphin forums if you want to contribute. Make sure you post it in the format at the bottom of the post.

So Ikaruga for Gamecube supports vertical displays, but only in one orientation. Unfortunately my monitor only rotates the 90 degrees in one direction so the game is completely upside down when in vertical mode. Is there a way in Dolphin or in windows to just invert the image 180 degrees?

Did you check your GPU control panel?

Ha, I actually figured it out. In windows I need it set to landscape(flipped) which gives the right orientation in the game. Its just funny because it makes my computer impossible to navigate while setting it up. Looks great in vertical mode though, they should really get that Ikaruga HD port with the replays and stuff out of the XBLA ghetto.

That spreadsheet is pretty interesting. When Haswell came out I remember people were saying it was a disappointment performance-wise and that we should only expect a ~5% improvement as far as gaming goes. Now with Dolphin it is looking more like a ~35% increase from Ivy Bridge. Is this something very specific to emulation or has the Haswell architecture been seriously underrated?

Might want to point out the guy doesn't want oc'd cpus in his benchmark.

I guess he'd better ignore everything since sandybridge came out, and the fact some games you need to oc that sucker anyways on dolphin

My rig is as follows:

Intel Q9550 quad core 2.83
ATI 5770
4 gigs of ram

Can I run Dolphin decently or am I out of luck until I buy a PC?
Decently? Yeah. As I said a page ago, given the right amount of speed optimization hacks I played more than one game from start to finish using a far worse CPU (E6550, dual core 2,3 ghz).

Optimally? Not really.

I sucked six dicks to get this tag.

As long as you don't play at full 1080p you should be fine since even my work laptop runs Dolphin fine. Only game I ever had a problem with was Bloody Roar and melee which is weird since brawl ran fine on it. Probably best if you use Dolphin 3.0

Thanks. I typically game at 720p for performance if that makes a difference. I was planning on building a new rig in a few months so worse case scenario I wait a bit before diving in.

I want to use my Classic Controller to play some indie games on steam ...

I got a dongle and ... what do I do next ?

Can anyone give me some links to how to configure or make it work with somethng like xpadder ?

Man, Pikmin 2 looks soooooo goooood in dolphin at 1080p with some AA. Widescreen also looks almost perfect in game. Man, I'm impressed by how that game's art style holds up in high res. Makes me want to toy around with dolphin more just to see how SMG and Skyward Sword look (although the later is pretty much unplayable for me since I don't think there is a decent way to make a motion plus game work with a 360 controller?).

I mean, you could always just hook up an actual Wii Remote.

Also, SMG looks fab in Dolphin.

Just to throw in an update no one will care about: my new PC arrived Saturday, I'm playing some Dolphin stuff with it and it's just awesome.
Sorry to bother you guys for nothing, but I had happiness to spread around.

PCSX2 and Dolphin make me happy for a brighter video-game preservational future!

Super noob here. I have a legit copy of Xenoblade and I have the Skyward Sword Gold Wiimote plus with classic controller but I don't have a Wii nor the sensor.

How do I rip the Xenoblade game from my disc and play it on HD and flawlessly?

You probably can't. Last I checked there's only a handful of DVD drives that read Wii discs. Ripping is usually done on the Wii itself

I tried out Killer 7 in Dolphin today and HOLY SHIT DOES IT LOOK GOOD.

Dolphin surprised me with its performance too (on a standard 2011 iMac).

I overclocked my i7 from 3.4 to 4.0ghz today.

holy fuck, SMG runs like a dream. shame about the music. On the other hand, 1080p 60fps Donkey Kong Country Returns being played with a SNES pad via an adapter. OH MY GODDDDDDDD

also, F Zero GX is godly. Upon remembering it has a first person/cockpit view mode, I wonder - has anyone tried it in 3D with an oculus rift? it would blow minds. Actually on that note, has anyone gotten a rift to work with Dolphin at all?

The usual method to dumping Gamecube and Wii games is via a modded Wii, but there are a few DVD drives that you can use to rip your games. https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-howto-dump-wii-or-gamecube-games-with-pc-no-wii-needed You'll probably have to check on ebay.

As for the sensor bar, you can get one for very little money. Monoprice has replacement ones for $3: http://www.monoprice.com/Product/?c...a&gclid=CPuGzsm1sbwCFYVDMgodWF4A6Q#largeimage

the cheap way for a sensor bar is to just get the one you already have, strip the end of the wire, and hook it up to a USB cable. done.

Nice. One more question. Where do I get this 30 fps patch for Xenoblade?

You basically just patch your ntsc or pal iso to the jap version and it plays fine in dolphin. ntsc and usa use the same hz, so it's 25fps on pal because pal is 50hz.

It's like a one line change haha

So I need two isos? Japan and NTSC?

Is this normal for Super Mario Galaxy? I get 46-50 in the hub area,I remember a while ago it was running better, even with 2xaa.(Donkey Kong Country seems to run 60 but drops, again I remember it being steady 60)

These are my settings
iGyFZjG.jpg

I have a:

i72600K@4.6GHZ
8GB DDR3@1600MHZ
SLI GTX 670 4GB
Windows 7-64 Bit

I'm using Dolphin 4.0-786

Thanks.

HLE(Fast), Maybe its this new build that stuffed everything up, I need to revert back to the one I was using a few months ago.(Any recommendations for builds?)

Thanks.
Try the most recent official build, 4.0.2, and try using the DX9 backend. Newer revisions have dropped support for DX9 and DX11 is just D3D now.
