Game Informer played through MGS Ground Zeroes' main mission in [1.5hrs, not rushing]

Anyone who knows MGS (those already set on buying this game) understand the value of replayability.

Anyone overreacting about 4 hours most likely wasn't going to get the game anyway. It happens all the time here. Reacting for the sake of reacting.

I was definitely going to buy it until information started rolling in some months back, before a date and everything. Back when I thought it was going to be part of the main game.

Kotaku said:
Game Informer got their hands on a near-final build of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes for their March cover story, and they say they beat the game's main mission (not including side quests or special console-exclusive missions) in less than two hours. Less than two hours!

"Judged just by the core story mission, Ground Zeroes is short," Game Informer writes in the cover story (only available in the magazine, not online). "We completed it in just less than two hours."

As much as I love Metal Gear, I will wait for this to drop in price regardless of length. It's a glorified demo, and their asking price is just ridiculous. There's plenty of other games to enjoy in March folks; vote with your dollars!

you're kind of generalising there

i like mgs quite a lot but i'm worried that i'm getting too small a slice of the game to properly enjoy and appreciate the mechanics

it's not particularly an issue of time either, it feels like i'm buying a pool but i'm only allowed to swim in the shallow end, if that analogy makes any sense

i'm buying the last gen version at less than the rrp, but even then i'm still concerned that i might be wasting what little money i have.

2 hours without cutscenes, might still buy the digital version. Might.

2 hours with cutscenes, that's some sledgehammer ball breaking.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
They should have been evil and put a NDA on length of the game :p just like some other company did with their new products.

god DAMNIT.

This is a weird logic to justify the game length. So the game being 4 hours is okay because you're supposed to replay it several times, so the REAL game length is 12 to 16 hours and that's totally cool?
It's fair, especially at it's price point.

Not every game is meant to be ran through and tossed aside.

Just wanted to say that Gran Turismo did this "prologue" stuff twice now and no one complained this much at that time, saying things like "$40 for a demo?! hell no!"
The truth is Konami wants to milk this franchise until it dies, that doesn't mean the game is bad!
- 4 hours for just the main mission is way too much, this is a prologue! Not half a game! (full MGS playthrough is about 8-10 hours);
- Kojima has said in the past that he thinks games will be more social in the future, and that he'd like for game development to be like this : show early work > fans respond > developers tweak the game according to replies and publish the game.
So yeah people are complaining about the price of a prologue that is a moneygrabber for Konami and a way to improve The Phantom Pain for Kojima.

I would argue that, with Gran Turismo, there's no narrative that is being interupted and there is still a lot of content in Prologues, enough to warrant the highly reduced price.

Ground Zeroes will interupt narrative at a key point, has one map and, if this is all correct, is short. We know it has a few bonus missions, but they are not going to be longer than the main campaign part of the game. I question the price for the content, rather than the content. Still have a UK and Japanese version pre-ordered, doesn't mean I can't call it bullshit.

i don't think they have a PR dept

thread title is def shitpost material though, is this even confirmed yet?
You're right, I mislead people and made them think the game was twice as long as it actually was!

Konami should pay me for this shit.

hopefully the reviews reflect this, pretty unacceptable of konami to try and pass this off for the cost they're asking.

I don't see why people are getting so confused about this. Ground Zeroes is a prologue to the main game. The prologue shouldn't be of equal length to the main game otherwise it may as well be MGS5 and Phantom Pain be MGS6. I think anything around four hours is perfectly acceptable for a prologue. You have to factor in the 'extra modes' that Game Informer played, too, in total you're probably looking close to 8-9 hours for 100% completion.

Just you wait until in a few years time people are complaining that 2 hours is too long for a game and "they have no time for long games any more" whilst developers espouse the benefits of a "cinematic experience".

Knew the GI quote didn't leave any room for interpretation. The main game being under 2 hours and then having the audacity to charge 40$ for the disc version is disgusting. Hell at this amount of content I think even the digital price of last gen (20$) is a rip off.

Jesus!! Under 2?!

I was going to get this if I can find it for $20, but now I might as well wait if TPP packs it in as an extra.

So less than two hours for the main game? How much will be left if you skip the cutscenes? 30 minutes?

Makes sense. Left 4 Dead's campaign was short but I put countless hours into it, solo and co-op.

But how replayable is this stuff really?

Less than two hours? Yikes.
