Game Informer played through MGS Ground Zeroes' main mission in [1.5hrs, not rushing]

Only 4 hours? That's very short indeed especially for a £40 game.

Lucky it isn't £40 then, eh? £22 on Amazon for previous gen. £30 on Gamestop for current gen. That's £5.50 per hour of content. That's better value for money than New Super Mario Bros Wii.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
People do realize that they're releasing this to help fund the development of the main game, right? It's pretty obvious.

And there's no problem in that.
But there's a problem when such a game, which heavily relies on narrative, and less on gameplay, it's 2 hours long...and it's 29.99 digitally and 39.99 retail. It's insulting and sick. You want to give us an aperitive of the main thing, different from a demo? Something very little, but great to experience? Ok, no problem. But price it RATIONALLY. This should have been a 9.99 on PSN / Xbox Live and 19.99 in stores, if they really wanted to distribute it. Certainly not THIRTY-NINE NINETY-NINE FUC*ING DOLLARS IN THE STORES RIGHT BEHIND YOUR HOME.

The Angry Joe gif posted earlier...it's so perfect for this event.

I can't imagine hiring Sutherland is a cheap deal either.

But everybody loved that change so much, and all of the Metal Gear fans were so happy to see Hayter go. I can't imagine how this game could be made without Jack Bauer as the star!

Well fuck me, I preordered this for 33€ (40€ is the normal price here in Germany). I really really wanna play it, but 2 hours doesn't really warrant this price.

I hope there's a lot of optional content and stuff :(

Where's ToraShiro? What does he have to say about this? I hope he will pass these complaints to Konami.

I'm guessing he's smart enough to have foreseen a backlash, but he's PR and this decision was made far above his pay grade. Possibly even above Kojima's - MGSV has to be the most expensive project in Konami's history by a wide margin, and the GZ standalone undoubtedly exists primarily as a way to recoup part of its budget in the current fiscal year, given that the full game is highly unlikely to ship before FY 2015/2016.

.....? Did you miss the thread title and OP update that says it's actually under 2 hours for the game?

I just want the game to come out now so we can all move past this drama and look forward to Phantom Pain.

Man. I might not buy this after all. Well, until its price is slashed. Two hours or less? Holy crap. That's ugly.

Thanks for reminding me that renting is an option. I'll just do that

There's no guarantee that RedBox will carry Ground Zeroes. Usually they only have family-friendly games and major AAA releases. And even a lot of AAA releases don't get picked up (they never carried Arkham Origins or Battlefield 4). And I don't think Redbox rents PS4/Xbox One games at all (certainly not in my area).

I don't really know what I'll do if RedBox doesn't stock this game. I think this release is almost unconscionable, and don't want to see Kojima/Konami make a dime off of it. At the same time, I'd still like to play it close to the time it's being released :)

$40 for 2 hours?

Pfff. In Canada it's $45 for 2 hours. Thanks price hike.

inb4 an Australian comes in and tells me it's like $450 there.

Wow, that's...pretty damn short.

That's like Telltale charging $40 for an episode of the The Walking Dead or The Wolf Among Us.

Yikes.

Exactly, there's no defending this and yet people are trying to. Hell how much is a full Telltale season actually?

Read through it

The main campaign is 2 hours long, it could be speed run in 5 minutes.

GI says they tried some extra missions but not all, did not mention how many there are but said they all take place in the same base.

Gameplay sounds like a blast but you pretty much know all the info from watching the gameplay demonstrations. You have to find all hidden XOF patches to access the console exclusive mission. A little more on GZ, it uses an pad app where you can use a pad to be your classic radar. In the game you can access it through a menu but it is real time on the pad.

They spoiled the entire story, what little there is.

Now MGSV, it takes place 9 years after GZ while Boss was in a coma. It starts with the trailer we saw at the hospital when its attacked by “Those who dont exist” which includes a fire version of Volgin, Psycho Mantis and more. Ocelot saves him and the game takes off from there. Boss ditches the name Snake and finally likes to be called Big Boss. Kojima altered his look to signify Boss’ new attitude so he has a robotic arm and the shrapnel which becomes a horn sticking out of head.

For those wondering how Les Enfants Terribles fits in with the timeline he says it will all make sense at the end of the game. The game area is 200 times larger than the GZ base. Gigantic open areas to explore which with many small bases, houses, farms, etc to check out. Some spots are guarded some are not. You can choose to get into fights or avoid them. It wont be one giant open world but many different large maps because you travel around the world.

Kojima says the games will play alike but in TPP its not constant danger like in GZ, you can choose to escape a base if you are seen in TPP for instance. The base building from PW is back, now there is a new base (probably Outer Heaven) and you rescue people with the fulton recovery just like in PW.

The bases will be more interactive, everyone will have their own and you will be able to hop online and visit a friends base if you want. If you rescue more hostages in GZ they will be transferred to TPP. Says players who play TPP will be at a clear advantage for TPP than those who don’t.

Thanks! Great info!

Being as big of a Metal Gear fan as I am, bought a ps2 for it, bought a ps3 for it (go the mgs4 bundeled ps4 and the mgs4 collectors edition both because im stupid). Have rebought MSG2 and 3 each at least 3, no 4 times because I also got the collection on vita.

I will not be purchasing this demo for 40$. Only way I can see that being justifiable is that when Phantom Pain comes out they say "ok everyone who bought ground zeroes only has to pay 20$ for phantom pain".

Konami, why even bother at all? Why just not include this in the main game and release the whole thing when it's done?

Oh they'll do that they just won't announce it until it's close to PP release. They won't tell you now because GZ would sell like shit.

Can Batzi be unbanned now? There are new 'misunderstandings' that need 'clearing up'

Thanks for the write up, doesn't sound like much new TPP info to be honest. But visiting other player's villages bases sounds cool.

Man, on one hand, Im an MGS die hard who cant NOT buy MGS games at launch. On the other, buying this is showing support for a shitty pricing and release model. I take it Im the type of person KojiPro is targeting with this BS.

Ok i'm a bit drunk.. so 2 hours on "normal"? difficulty to complete ground zeroes...

Because if that is the case... Konami can go... and see if a ps4 gamecase can fit up their backside...

So I come back and see that it is 2 instead of 4 hours, fuck off Konami/Kojima. This went from a wait and see / price drop to just waiting until The Phantom Pain comes out to get the complete experience. What a fucking joke this is.
