Game Informer played through MGS Ground Zeroes' main mission in [1.5hrs, not rushing]

Crazy I bought a PS3 to play MGS4 but I'm passing on this. Can't support such a blatant cash grab, I will wait on the used market to plummet in price or just YouTube the whole thing

Here's another tidbit from the GI article: We've seen the "vast majority" of Ground Zeroes' content. Also, they totally just lay out the entire story in the article.

Big Boss rescues Chico and Paz.
They get on the helicopter, but there's a giant V-shaped scar on Paz's abdomen.
It's a bomb! But they pull it out and arrive at Motherbase...
Which has been mostly destroyed by Colonel Skullfuck's shitty voice acting.
They rescue Miller from Motherbase and get in the helicopter again.
But the Patriots anticipated that Big Boss would find the bomb and have a back up plan that somehow puts Big Boss in a coma. (This plan is not specified.)

Don't spend $40 on this.

Lol.

Yep, it was so damn obvious.

What's funny is this will probably still outsell the terrible Castlevania game that comes out later this month.

Very interesting Kojima interview in the issue. Basically talks about how he got into gaming and how he is stuck being the Metal Gear guy. He claims he does not want to be known as that man, he claims he doesnt have much time left cause he is 50 so he wants to write a list of all he wants to do before he dies and make sure he does it which includes writing a novel and making a movie.

Yeah, a Metal Gear Solid novel and a Metal Gear Solid movie.

Nah, just kidding. Did he sign some crazy contracts? Why can't he just quit? He has to have earned a few millions by now, so who is forcing him to stay?

Sure Konami will be dead right after he quits, but who cares. He should join some independant studio and work on what he actually wants. Let Konami ruin the rest of the Metal Gear franchise, just like they did with Silent Hill.

I figured that would've been exactly it. They're really selling the game's prologue, it's bullshit.

Man, how many nuclear fallouts and comas can Big Boss take? Dude survives the most ridiculous shit in this series.

He claims he likes simple stories, ironically. He said he always tries to make a simple story. He says he wont let series canon hinder him from telling the story he wants so if he has to contradict a few things he will.

There was a comparison of him and James Cameron with Aliens where that franchise was handed off after Alien and it was successful. Kojima said his situation is more like Terminator where if he left it would become a mess. He claims he has had no success in passing the torch which implies he has tried. There is a lot about Japanese culture and how he doesn't relate to any Japanese developers anymore except Platinum Games.

What I found most interesting is his talk about GTA and Konami. Remember that GTA tweet about how amazing an open world it was and how he was jealous. Well he says he is jealous of Rockstar that they are able to pump all their resources into making the game they desire. He says he can't do that, he still needs to work with Konami and partner on different projects and make sure things are balanced for Konami as a whole.

He says he just got into Breaking Bad and he is pissed cause he wasnt the one to come up with that story, he wants to tell that kind of story. He says if he pitched a story like that to Konami they would probably say no. He also loved Gravity, loved how simple it was and he says trying to create a game that simple would be hard with Konami. He says that movie really impacted him, making something out of the ordinary a big success and is jealous of it as a creator, says it stirred something in him.

He talks about how he is close friends with Guillermo Del Toro, says he would like to work with him one day.

I feel kinda bad for him. He actually wants to do something different but is stuck. If he left Konami, someone else would take over MGS and fuck it up yet if he stays, then he's stuck doing sequels. Really sad scenario.

He needs to check his ego. How could he ever expect a developer to make a game without him when they are called 'Kojima Productions'?

His team are perfectly capable of making great games, I am sure. They might not be Kojima games, but they don't need to be, and they never could be.

If he wants to make other games I'm Konami would allow for that. But he can't separate himself from Metal Gear, so that isn't happening.

Wow!! If you weren't on a complete GZ media blackout since its first unveiling, you already saw near everything.

The MGR fiasco disagrees. They couldn't do shit other than essentially twirl ribbons around for years.

Including cut scenes? Holy shit.

What's worse is that people openly admit they'll buy it regardless, and then go shit on Killer Instinct.

there is no confirmation for this. it's just my opinion it would be really bizarre for GI to skip all cut scenes and guesstimate hours of gameplay only, when the usual practice to report on first runthroughs is to include all cut scenes (end game clock).

If this game sells well and more publishers follow Konami's example then i really fear for the future of this industry.

This thread made me lol. Started at 4 hours, and people arguing about what GI meant by "play through" so maybe it WAS more than 4 hours.

Then it's 2 hours.

That fiasco, as I understand it, was a team trying a new game concept with Kojima looking over their shoulders.

Have you ever tried to do something creative with your parents watching? It's fucking difficult. I imagine it was much like that for Koji Pro while attempting to make Metal Gear Rising.

I'm sure they could have made a character action game if that was their intention. I'm sure they could make a stealth game is given the opportunity to do so. I don't believe that they are incompetent without Kojima.

Gosh, that must be the worst developer environment.

Not really though. He entrusted his team with Rising and they completely messed it up. He also tried to entrust them with the MGS series after 2 and 3 but they just couldn't pull it off. Or the concepts didn't live up to his standards.

Either way he was more or less forced to intervene while, especially with MGS4, it was painfully obvious that he didn't want to make the game.

I've played some actual demos for longer than 2 hours. You know, free ones.

I can only hope this experiment fails miserably.

I know it's hardly the same thing, and sorry if it's already been mentioned, but the speedrun record for MGS4 is well under two hours, and less than 90 minutes for MGS3. Gameplay sections of MG games have never been particularly beefy when you look at it. Just sayin'.

see that sort of attitude is just ludicrous
Not really. The thing can be utter shit and I'll be there day 1. Everyone has that one franchise that they'll get no matter what just to see the next entry. You may want to invoke the "vote with your dollar" policy when it comes to things like this but for me if it says Metal Gear I'll buy it without question.

This is 2 hours INCLUDING cut-scenes.

We're probably talking about an hour of gameplay, if that. Shamefur dispray.
