Media Create Sales: Week 5, 2014 (Jan 27 - Feb 02)

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Ground Zeroes is a paid demo. Why are people still confused? I thought folks in the Media Create thread are generally well informed!

It's pretty hard to tell how it will sell in Japan I think, because we know that the core fanbase for MGS is pretty consistent in Japan - about 700k strong at least. Will they spring for a paid demo? Maybe, maybe not. I think what's more interesting will be what the breakdown is between digital and retail sales, and PS3 and PS4 sales.

That's certainly interesting too, of course.

Especially considering the fact we'll have digital numbers, so it won't be talk based on literally nothing

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Not on 3DS it ain't. ;)

Famitsu: Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission 3DS = 282,561

Thats what I'm saying though, that was releasing in a period with the Bardock special stuff going on, the new movie teasing, and so on. Right now DBZ is like in nowheres-ville until they confirm another manga special, short TV series or whatever the fuck they have in mind after Unborn Baby Red Hair Power Up Chronicles.

From the other thread:

Iwata said this about Wii Fit U earlier last year:

Nintendo: Half a million Japanese people still play Wii Fit daily

Hope they finally realise that the casuals are long gone.

Is this a good result for Amagami (EBKore+)? I love the franchise and would love to see it continue. But I have no idea what is considered a success in this niche. Can anyone help before this turns into the regular "WiiU-PSV are dead" thread?

I think they made a mistake producing 150k copies of the game. The predecessor had some great sales due to the popularity of the anime. Let's see if it continues to chart next week before saying BOMBA.

What was the release week figures for Disgaea 3 PSV? I just hope there is no decline so we can get an English release as well as D2 on PSV

500K people refuse to admit they're off the wagon, 500K people are liars, or Nintendo have terrible survey methods?

Combination of all three really. Surveys show that people like Dark roast coffee, reality is that most people have tonnes of milk in it and only claim they like Dark roast because it sounds better.

Well, at least Wii U didn't plummet from last week. Still pitiful performance.

Full Boost reigning, should easily pass 400k like duckroll said. Can't wait to try it for myself.

The Play DaveStation Vita still holding on.

And for fucks sake, Nintendo, drop the 2DS on the land of the rising sun.

The lesson theyve learned instead is that casuals will want to buy a non-videogame box or piece of furniture from a videogame company to continue these sorts of experiences en masse.

I guess the real test would have been just releasing Wii Fit U as the board with a GameStick and seeing if that could do anything at all. I don't think it would have either, that craze has just passed over and gone to smartphones.

Or 500k people are still happily using Wii Fit and have no interest in buying a dead console to do the same thing they already do?
That option actually crossed my mind as well but I forgot to include it. :p

Certainly doesn't bode well for an entire platform dedicated to such software...

Yeah, I'm not sure who wants to spend $300 + the cost of Wii Fit U if they're been satisfied with Wii Fit for years.

It's not really "new content" in the same way as a more traditional game.

Yeah they really don't have the best timing with this one. That reminds me of something else. Ultimate Butoden came out for the DS back when Kai was close to ending in Japan, but never got a western release, where Kai was still going on. Total missed opportunity there.

Well, I guess there's technically still a chance if Buu episodes of Kai are actually coming this year....

Thank you very much for answering.

22k sold in the first week compared to 150k shipped copies looks rather bad. :(

Aostia

El Capitan Todd
Pokemon near to 4 millions, Kirby very strong, Zelda a little less strong than I expected
Yokai watch is the next big thing for L5, and aside Fantasy Life could be a very reliable francihse for a couple of years on
3D Mario near to 500k, the attach rate to the weekly Wii U sold is impressive (too bad that the console is keeping it back)

DragonBall Online never even got a release outside of Korea and Hong Kong despite having stuff penned directly by Toriyama (that gleefully wrote out GT entirely) in an age when MMO's still seemed like a hot thing. All servers now shut down, the end.

So 3DS hit saturation in Japan, wii u is still in ICU. Nintendo needs to wake up fast. Their do nothing plan isnt working.

I seriously hate that shit. Not having a concrete sense of global digital sales is really annoying.

But yeah, Wii Fit U. Maybe the people who would've bought it read their earnings Q&A and decided to wait for their new fitness device instead? :p

Otherwise, the numbers are pretty boring.

If the Wii U keeps selling like this Nintendo could even miss their revised forecast.

I have no doubt that the WiiU will miss the revised target. I wonder what Nintendo will do then?

Boribg week. 3DS still at 39k number, and that probably will become the base line with steady small decreases until Nintendo release 2DS or make a cut. Vita seems steady as well at 20k, though it's not great at least it've been confirmed that Vita have strong niche hold, but Sony could do better with price cut and take the momentum even further before Nintendo make any moves.

lol at Wii Fit U

They're still using Wii Fit meaning they see no need to get Wii Fit U. Simple logic as that :p

Which plenty said was the case. Whether it's wii fit, just dance, wii sports people are more than happy to use the wii for these.

I don't know how Nintendo were convinced otherwise.

I forgot all about that one. I don't know what they were thinking.

To be honest, I doubt the game would have done any better over here in the west. The game wasn't, shall we say, groundbreaking.

But yeah, their timing really sucked with Battle Of Z.

I live in Japan and bought a Wii U for Wii U... months ago. Meaningless "release date".

it wasn't the only reason

Let's see how the 3DS does next week before we start shaking. There is a pretty big game out tomorrow + xl bundle

I doubt that 3DS hit saturation, in fact, it's still selling over 30k. But I think they need new softwares and maybe a new model, maybe like 2DS or a new premium thing.

I'd say the OG model should get a pricecut, it's getting outsold by the PS3 lately.

Is there a way for the Wii Fit to phone home or people using Wii Fit upload their data to Nintendo? I'm just trying to understand if there is a reasonably accurate way for Nintendo to calculate the 500K figure.

Not even really considering the west as that was in a period of rights upheaval with Atari bombing out again, some odd stuff going on with Funi, and of course the full switch to Bandai Namco.

No, I don't think DragonBall Online even made it to Japan. I guess its so old now that its just a total rights mess (as evidenced by Funi supposedly not able to dub the new movie until Fox's ownership of DBZ movie rights passes it over).

What I love about the Vita situation is that it has so much room for growth, granted it will never get close to 3DS, but this thing will sell for a long time.

Probalby not.

A combination of this, and some of those people (a) already bought the Wii Fit U console bundle, or (b) are using the free eshop version.

How did they ship 150k if the game sold 26k and 60-80% FW? The math doesn't add up.

Without a steady flow of games the Wii U will continue to drop. It's why the Vita has stayed stable in recent weeks. Congrats to it. If this keeps up and more stuff is localized I might finally buy one. I just wish the situation with Phantasy Star wasn't the way it was. I just don't believe Nintendo can even address this at this point. Donkey Kong is not going to perform how they expect. It always comes back to games. Enough of them and the type of games people want to play and be willing to spend money on in the first place.

It's down about 250K from last year, I can't see how DQM2 and a bundle is going to make up that difference.

Yes, but most systems go into a natural decline at some point. And I don't know if what we see is anything more than that, is what I mean
