Wii U Games 2014

It will be interesting to see how the world is handled in X. We know it's huge, but how is it filled? If we can't use the mechs all the time, is there other forms of vehicles? Will we have all the standard biomes (desert, forest, swamp, plains, mountains, arctic, ect)?

So many questions. It's becoming infuriating. Across every platform, this is the single game that I want most. I haven't been like this since Golden Sun was announced years ago for the GBA. I would watch the same trailers and little gameplay snippets over and over, waiting for it to finally come out. Analyzing every little detail. Trying to figure everything out.
Me too. ^^

We should create a "Crazy X Analyzing Thread" in the gaming community. Anyone in? :p

If a 10 year old Zelda game in WWHD can sell over 1 mil in 3 months on WiiU, Hyrule Warriors can do very well.

As long as they go all out on it and load it with content like all the Dynasty Warriors games and it has reviews in the range of 80-90 it could be a hit.

That's a tall order, judging by the metacritic performance of just about every dynasty warriors game ever. They appear to be at home in the 50-70 area for the most part..

I've suggested it a few times, honestly. But, at this point, I think it would be best to wait for the next trailer. We've already talked about the two we have to death now.

Can't wait so long. :p

I think I'll create one, remember that we expect this game to release in summer or fall and we're in February.

This game is probably "just" 6 to 8 months away.

Xenoblade release date in Japan was June 10, 2010
August 2011 in Europe
and April 2012 in North America

And we already know they're localizing it (at least, they were, I'd assume they still are).
So I doubt we'll have very long to wait for a world wide release.
You can make it. God speed.

Just make sure the OP is amazing. :p

Probably this part:
X-Wii-U-600-X-300.png

Hmm, I'm not too sure. Those rings are huge and would be visible even flying from that height. We also have to look out for those overarching rock formations, which are also not present.

That means one of two things: either there are multiple points of access to the desert, or the area that is being flown over is not the desert, and in that case, four areas would have been presented in the second teaser.

Interesting project

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1672987132/space-pioneer

I LOVED the Xbox. It was my primary 6th gen console. Of course, power isn't the only important thing, which I why I really like my Wii U, as well.

You missunderstood me^^. Honestly, where have you guys been? Xbox was clearly superior, the likeliness that PS gets the broken version was well, omnipresent. .. but it seems that the free advertisement based on assumptions like 60 fps Zelda ;) really kicked in with Vita and PS4.

This was brought up a couple of pages back and in the Wii U eshop thread, but everytime I see it pop up, I feel compelled to repost my thoughts on it, as it looks like people are being suckered into putting money into this thing. Not that you're not at liberty to due so, but the entire thing reeks of shadiness. Here's my post below.

While the artwork they present is nice and the idea is great and all, the parameters of budget are totally unrealistic for a project of that size and scope, especially because no one on their "staff" has any proof that they can create any games. There's literally no one on that page that has any experience crafting a game.

All that they have are a few endorsements from astronauts, a person who claims to be "personally interested in video games", and a person who claims to have "tons of experience in all things CG."

I don't know about you, but I have personal doubts of any of the credentials listed above because they have failed to present any so far. What they have is a design document wishlist of what they would want in a game and some paintings, not credibility.

This kickstarter is an almost immediately no for me. Almost 6 pages of nothing but concept art, no visable assets, a team that's relatively new to the field, a bunch of scientist names who can't be on the payroll and a final asking rate that's far too low than the shear ambition that such a game would require.

It's going to be stormy seas for that group.

Is there a reason the "Lego Movie Videogame" isn't in the opening post's list? Just wondering.

Also Sega is denying the 2015 Sonic game and the other parts of that rumor in general FYI.

I suspect they're just befuddled because it messed up their PR plan and that everything on that pic is actually coming regardless of what they say.

I think it could be before DKCTF actually. A final look at it plus other news.

I agree. I am thinking they would do something BEFORE this game comes out and maybe throw some reviews of the game in the presentation as well (Game Informer just gave it a 9.25).

I really thought we were going to get one last month though so don't hold your breath.

Side note- How the heck do I become a "member" so I can post new threads?!

Awesome thanks guys!

Yeah I guess Game Informer really liked DKCTF.

DK Tropical Freeze: summary from mynintendonews:

Seems like generic worlds, ice, beach, jungle but “the variety is amazing”

Ride minecarts through saw mills, dash through a forest with a raging fire, etc.

Great difficulty balance, bonus stages are a bit ridiculous in difficulty though that is expected.

Water levels return, are very fun, better to control with analog stick than d-pad. For some reason you have to access the menu to pick one or the other.

Dixie and Cranky add new moves that work best to reach certain collectibles or specific platforming challenges. Rotating barrels allow you to select the best Kong for the job.
“Local Co-op is as much a mixed bag as the first installment.”

6 worlds instead of 8 in the last game. But each level is larger. Reviewer says it rather have a smaller collection of the best levels Retro can make than a more bloated game with less quality levels and that is exactly what this game does.

Have a gander at what Shin'en said about Wii U's power:

@ShinenGames based on what you know of the hardware what tech improvements could/should be made on U versions of PS3/360 games?

@VGpressfan The no brainers are much higher textures resolution & reduce loading times by caching.

https://twitter.com/ShinenGames/status/430741515158028288

We knew of the texture benefits thanks to the RAM, but the load times are interesting, the person noted Splinter Cell has longer load times and games like Lego City Undercover have really long load times.

Shin'en must know of a beautiful way to cache properly to get the shortest load times possible (Nano Assault Neo has like no load times at all).

I don't know about Splinter Cell, but a big reason why LCU had such large loading times was they loaded up giant, uncompressed, HD videos all the time. It was crazy.

Is that why? But it takes 1-2 minutes just to load the game when no cutscene plays. I thought it was due to the massive world.

Like I said, that was part of it (a lot of missions started with those videos). The other part of it was that every "mission" was its own world. They made some very odd choices with the game optimizations.

Blu said there was a technical reason, but I don´t think I can find that in the Latte thread, but I remember this same topic being discussed and Blu shared some info. Hopefully he checks this thread.

edit: Not against the Wii U but how the game is programmed, that is why Splinter Cell and LCU are bad but other games like AC 3 and 4, CoD and others don´t have issues at all.

Classic case of GAF -> internet -> GAF lol. That summary was actually from someone on GAF in that GI Review thread

It seems to me that this Q1 14 is worst than last year, up to now.
It must be said that the "draught" of last year was more perceived than real, to me (considering that if I remember correctly we had Lego City and MH3 Ultimate during the Q1 in 13, and maybe something else too, like Ninja Gaiden in PAL), while this year we are getting just DKTF.
Plus, last year in January they announced Project X, Yoshi, Zelda WWHD, Wii Party, SMT x FE, and they confirmed Kart, Smash and Mario3D for the next E3 (pre-announcements?).

This year, in January, we got nothing. No new announcement, no new pre-announcement.
Just vague (potentially even interesting, but still...) indications about future consoles (QOL, integrated portable-home technologies and accounts...)

I really think that Nintendo will support the Wii U 'till 2015 with just the already announced games

@VGpressfan You have to plan right from the beginning for quick load times, but with enough RAM you can at least cache files in advance.

Yes, I feared the same in the Kart thread:
Great boxart.

The way Nintendo spaces out their releases though, I'm starting to think all the games that have been announced are also all the games that will be released for the system period (and I'm not even sure about SMTxFE). I can't fault them either, releasing Zelda U would be madness with such a small install base. In between X, Bayo, Hyrule W, Smash, Sonic and Yoshi, if they space them all three months apart, we're talking end of 2015, beginning of 2016 here. And 2016 will bring the successor.

At least they aren't rushing the games. I have other systems to play so I can deal with droughts. What I can't deal with however is pushing shit out just to fill out that release schelude desperately.

I agree, but that's not enough.
They could do a lot of more different things to fill it up:

other HD ports? WWHD took 6 months and sold more than 1 million, I can imagine various GC games that would benefit from a enanchement approach (Fzero? Baten Kaitos [I know, not first party, but still...the developer is owned now, they could try to make that deal] and others)

Eshop releases? I mean, Dr. Luigi and Nes remix are good examples, imho. Is it possible that they released just three games on the eshop from the launch (counting Art academy)? C'mon...I'd like to see them proposing new characters/IP/genres through this channel, like they did with Pushmo, Dillon, Sakura Samurai...while insisting in good eshop fit (like picross-e for 3DS, they could exploit the "Remix" concept on the Wii U, with SNES remix and so on...)

Distribution deals? C'mon...that DQX Wii U edition is still shamelessy Japan only...and what about Puyo Puyo or Taiko? And don't forget the horrid Pokemon Rumble figures distribution in the West...

All these are very easily stuff that should be done to fill the lineup, imho.

I primarly use N consoles as exclusive contents boxes, and I'm not complaining about the quality of the exclusive games incoming, but I really thing that they should provide more contents, to vary the portfolio and increase the stream of games available

Maybe they are keeping everything until Mario Kart, then a game every month to keep a good momentum.
Iwata said MK 8 won't be a one time boost like the first party release of 2013. But then he did say that too early 2013 about the Q1 drought to get a momentum in H2.

Meh I would rather have them focusing their resources on new games. This does include eShop games but the way they announce them we wouldn't know about the incoming stuff. See how NES Remix was launched for example. Distribution deals are nice but let's be honest here: there's not any real classics just waiting to be brought over. Wii U's library in Japan isn't necessarily all that better.

I'm picking up my Wii U premium console next week (had it on laybuy)
Very excited! I'm a big fan of the Gamecube and the Wii U is more like that than the Wii.

I've already got 3 games + DK: Tropical Freeze on preorder

lzyf.jpg

There was a twist though, i opened ACIII and it seems the girl at the store accidentally put Black Flag in it :D I'm going to keep it though.
pzac.jpg

Just gotta get an empty Black Flag Case and buy ACIII again.

Also getting Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii) next week, that will tide me over until X

I don't know why you guys expected a Direct last month. Iwata informed us on some interesting info regarding the company's plans for the future with a better focus on the GamePad capabilities, more NFC- titles, Quality of Life service/platform , Wii U to get DS virtual console titles, no plans for a Wii U price cut, re-confirmed collaborations with third parties, and the release date for Mario Kart 8.On top of that, we've had a new trailer for Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors announced back in December, then there was the release of NES Remix and Dr. Luigi as well. Lastly, there's been a good amount of footage (perhaps too much) for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze released these past couple of weeks.

It is a shame that Nintendo doesn't seem to have anything big coming out for Wii U in the next two months, but we do know there's some new indie games planned for release later this quarter. Of course, Shovel Knight may end up getting delayed again for all we know, but delays are typical indie projects. Maybe Nintendo will finally start releasing more virtual console titles later this quarter after it said its improved the process. Even with the bi-monthly schedule, I'm not so sure we'll even get a Direct this month. On top of DK coming out later on, the 3DS has Bravely Default coming out very soon and Yoshi's New Island coming next month.
