Titanfall on 360 delayed to Mar 25th for "finishing touches"

It really doesn't make that much strategic sense if you think about it. Microsoft makes the same money whether you buy the 360 or XB1 versions. So we're supposed to believe people are going to be so excited for Titanfall, but they were originally buying it on 360, and because of a 2 week delay they're going to buy a $500 console to play it now? That's a real stretch of a theory.

If the PC version were delayed that would make for a far better conspiracy theory.

All it would take for the theory to hold was for MS to place more value on increasing XB1 install base then on garnering higher short-term revenue from game sales royalty fees. Doesn't sound unreasonable to me.

They have gone on the record specifically saying that it's not meant to be a competitor to CoD. Obviously EA wants it to be but Respawn knows it has to grow.

Anyways, even if this is a ploy to get more people to buy a Bone, it can only mean good things for the 360 version. I think people buying that version will have a game that's very comparable to the Bone's.

Of course they're going to go on record to say that, because a.) they know they can't compete with it in its current limited platform state and b.) it reduces expectations if it cannot reach those heights. It's smart to say that sort of thing on the record, it's like the way politicians always love to talk up their competitor's debating skills before presidential debates.

Respawn wants to recreate the success of CoD for this game and to do so it has used much of what its employees have learned in their experience developing a high profile competitive FPS to tweak what things people like in those sorts of games and develop a highly addicted fanbase who will follow them anywhere. I mean, I'd say it's clear their goal is to carve out yet another huge portion of the highly competitive FPS multiplayer arena as well as bring some of the allure of MOBA features that make other games such runaway successes.

the 360 is on it's way out. it far more important for MS to secure a userbase committed to XB1 now and establish it as the Titanfall console, even if a multiplatform sequel shows up two years later.

This seems scummy as fuck. The fact that we still haven't seen any X360 footage makes me lean towards the 360 version looking equal to the Xbone version.

I think its a deliberate delay to push Xbox one but the delay doesn't seem long enough to drive people to tack on a $500 increase to play the game a couple weeks early.

No X360 footage... and still hardly any news about maps, modes, things of that nature. They must really be crunching.

Where's Mort? He knew that they were developing the 360 port some time before they confirmed. Maybe he knows about the delay.

People who are going to buy this game likely already have their platform picked out, so the conspiracy theories are a bit ridiculous. Since the PC and xbone are more powerful, it's very likely it was easier to reach the intended performance on those platforms.

Sucks for those waiting to play on the 360.

Not if you can play the game 2 weeks earlier........

And how would go about playing the game 2 weeks earlier?

Well let me tell you.

There is this system, called the Xbox One. Titanfall comes out on March 11th on that platform. Don't you want to play the game 2 weeks earlier?

Considering the development team behind TitanFall 360 have done nothing but quality remasters, my guess is the 360 version is closer to the XB1 version than further away.

Guys, do you realize you're suggesting that Microsoft believes that people who were previously going to buy this game for their Xbox. 360, are now going to pony up $500 for a console they had previously not planned on buying, just so they can play this game two weeks early.

That is quite a stretch of a theory.

The mental gymnastics of this thread are amazing to watch. This game brings out the crazy like no other game in recent memory.

I really am beginning to wonder how much different the 360 version can really be.. I mean, even with different developers.

If the Xbox One version is 720p, 60fps, 6vs6...

What will the 360 version be?

Not like there is a ton of graphical features to tone down. I mean, the textures will obviously be worse, but what else?
Resolution most likely.

So not only have MS delayed the 360 version to prop up Xbox one sales but now it is believed that the 360 version is actually on par or better than the Xbox one version?

SMH seriously the people thinking this really need to talk to their therapist and show them on the doll where the Xbox one touched them to cause them such irrational thoughts.

I know everyone thinks the Xbox one is some weak ass console but in perspective when compared to the Xbox 360 it is a next gen console several times in magnitude more powerful.

The hate some of you have has caused your imaginations to go nuts, seriously.

EA doesn't own the ip.

It's not about the IP, it's about this game which they're funding. The ultimate authority to worry about how close versions look to each other resides with EA (and however much leeway EA grants Respawn [not like we will ever know the details]), not MS.

Lol. God forbid a development team wants to polish a game.

Edit: More super anti MS posts on NeoGAF. What else is new?

I love my Xbox One. Let go of the fanboyism and cruise to happiness.

What kind of polish can they do in only two weeks? I'm seriously asking because, touch ups sounds like something that could be released in a post release patch. Hell, wouldn't the disks be printing in factories for retail in that two weeks stretch?

Not better. No one is saying that. But if the X360 version looks great, it might make the X1 version less awesome.

Two weeks is a lot for game development. Have you programmed before?

Some gamers are really paranoid. Microsoft isn't out to get you. I promise.

If this was true, they would have just released it broken, then fixed it down the line. Thats how things get done now a days.

Developers don't normally say "the game is delayed two weeks because we found a major bug". They use words like "polish". Yes, discs would begin production right about now, so they likely found something with the 360 version at the last minute, and they missed their deadline.

Imagine it the other way around. Delaying the One version by two weeks for "finishing touches".

That would certainly be more surprising because the XB1 and PC versions are being done in house by Respawn. It doesn't strike me as strange the version that got farmed off to another developer ends up being the one that gets delayed.

Maybe there are known bugs that they want to fix before the game's release?

Like BruiserBear said, this is quite the stretch. Maybe it's because I'm not hyped about the game, but I don't see many people dropping $500+ to play one game 2 weeks early. It makes little sense to me when they likely had everything planned out already. I think friends would play a much bigger influence on consumers purchasing decision. Do you think many people are going to just cough up that kind of money and ditch their friends so easily?

Really all this will do is aggravate 360 owners which makes it a poor marketing move if your conspiracy theory were true.

Doom 1 doesn't look like Crysis 3 on a Core i7, Nvidia GTX Titan rig, you know, meaning:
Titanfall runs on the (modified) Source engine which just isn't cutting-edge tech today. No matter the performance of the hardware it just won't look spectacularly great which in turn would make it possible that the difference between XB1 and 360 isn't as big as the hardware power difference would suggest.

Because people love car comparisons so much, another example: If you put a 50 hp engine from a compact car into a Ferrari, it'd still be a 50 hp engine, with the added benefit the Ferrari might be a little faster due to its aerodynamical optimisations or whatever. Put them on a racetrack and they'd perform pretty comparable.

The comment about not competing with CoD directly was made in June. When PS4 was still an option for them. The scope of how big they could make this game has been limited from the get-go just by virtue of their size and the fact that it's a new IP. It's smart to say those things because it's an accurate representation of reality. "Competitive FPS multiplayer arena" is a large umbrella so obviously it will overlap some with CoD, but the bots and lack of singleplayer to me say they're carving out a different part of the pie. Of course they want the same success as CoD, who doesn't, but not necessarily the same market as CoD. EA has a title for that, and it is for better or worse called Battlefield.

Yep maybe. I'm not going to pretend like I have any real clue, it just seems off to me. Maybe they really just aren't done, or maybe they don't want to take the chance of too much server strain. Shrug.

Or maybe even that ↓

Tinfoil hat time!

Maybe they're hiding it because Bluepoint did too good of a job and the 360 version looks nearly as good as the XB1 one, making people not want to upgrade yet?

Oh gush, So I would play Infamous first then Titanfall.

If XBOne released in korea early... I could have played this first.

Microsoft knows what they are doing. I was going to wait to compare both the X1 and 360 version to determine whether I wanted a X1 now or later. This does make me want to buy the X1 version so it's working. However I might just get PvZ On 360 and that would give me more time to play it on 360.

Microsoft might think that, doesn't mean it's true.
It's not like there hasn't been any other disparities between what Microsoft thinks and what is actual reality within the past 12 months. :p

I bet like 90% of Xbone owners will be buying this game. Have fun fellas. I'll be enjoying some Dark Souls II on the same day. The 360 delay does seem strange, but I guess it makes as much a tactical reason as it does a technical one.

Definitely. Delaying it for polish and delaying it to boost Xbone interest aren't mutually exclusive.

What is the risk on MS to delay the 360 version if people will just wait and buy it?

It's really hard for me to believe that a game developed first on the 360, that's MP only, with a max of 12 player rooms, that's not that impressive graphically, that's on the older of the two consoles, needs to be delayed an extra two weeks for problems so bad they didn't want to ship it.

Finishing touches on what?

I can wait. Guess Microsoft is pretty happy about this.

People saying this won't change the consumers buying decision should consider that Titanfall was marketed as a Xbox One title all the time and the delay will only further this perception. Casuals aren't really informed.

It won't make a big dent in the sales but it helps pushing the XB1 no matter what.

I think some of you need to step back and actually read what your typing, the lack of objectivity shown in this thread is astounding, seriously take a step back and just honestly think about what you are typing and how it may look to a normal person.
