Titanfall on 360 delayed to Mar 25th for "finishing touches"

Funnily enough this might cause me to not buy an Xbox One.

I'm pretty hyped for Titanfall, it's damn well tempting me to get an Xbox One. However I wanted to see how the 360 version is first. Now I'm going to end up waiting the extra two weeks to see how that version is. If it's good I'll get it on 360. If it's bad I'll be past my biggest "hype" period for the game already (launch week) and might end up waiting on an Xbox One price drop or something to get one.

If they all came out at once and the 360 version was subpar I'd probably do something stupid and buy an Xbox One (especially if there's a bundle). Even if the 360 version was good, hype might have gotten me to take the plunge anyway because I had nothing to wait on.

Oh well!

yeah man it's like if there was a company who was doing nothing but lying and deceiving customers for the last eight months straight, was caught astroturfing on neoGAF like six thousand times, sent marketing peons to blatantly lie about competitors and their own products on forums and reputable websites, attempted a wholesale anti-consumer disruption of the market wherein they couldn't keep their story straight for more than a minute and was recently caught in a scandal wherein they and another company tried to buy youtube positivity whilst telling these same people to keep quiet about the arrangement

surely there is no reason at all to be skeptical about this upright company!
I like you

It's hard for some when EA makes decent games covered in shit. Some people casual and otherwise just can't fathom not buying something on principle when they can just have fun.

EA is a horrible company but no matter how shitty they get you'll still see people here or around the net who will curse them while telling you how Day One they'll be with whatever shlock they release next.

Smh its so sad how right u are. I used to not understand the vitriol EA received, but now... if any publisher bows out the game next I want it to be them.

Lol at people who think the delay is intentional. You might be able to build a case if the delay was a couple months... But 2 weeks!? Come on man.

One... It's not even published by MS. Two... Delays just piss people off.

I'm quite certain EA and MS would prefer that no delay was necessary.

The tin-foil hat guy in me this is just a ploy to encourage people to make the XB1 jump.

I'm sure the delay is legit.

The tinfoil hat part of me wants to say it's because Microsoft know that most people would buy it on 360, and want to drive Xbox One sales.

Both posts in the same minute. It's a tinfoil hat party!

While I too am of the opinion that this is probably at least partially motivated by trying to increase XB1 sales, I also think that there's a good chance they're having a tricky time optimizing it for 360, especially if they used a lot of resources trying to optimize it for the XB1's architecture.

Even if it's a cross-gen title, we've seen already that lack of optimization in cross-gen titles has affected how things pan out on the XB1 versions.

The best thing about this delay is that it'll just be used as an excuse for why the 360 version doesn't sell the best, even though I've expressed my doubts about that for some time.

So if the 360 version sells best it'll be "see, stupid Microsoft tried help the XB1 with this game and it didn't work".

If the XB1 version sells best, it'll be "guess that 360 delay worked. Microsoft is so sleazy!"

Either way it'll be spun as a negative by the usual suspects.

I wonder if pre-orders were trending much higher for the 360 version and they haven't been seeing interest in the xb1 ramp up before titanfall like they were expecting.

With Bluepoint handling the 360 port last-gen folks probably don't need to worry. Very competent studio when it comes to porting.

MS seems pretty desperate as of late. I'm sure they'll try anything they can, last thing they want is the PS4 getting farther ahead of them

Have we ever seen such a high profile title a little over a month from release with absolutely no screenshots or gameplay? It's just weird.

Two objectives achieved:

1- Force launch day / week buyers to go for the XBONE on console

2- keep 360 footage tucked under wraps to avoid the PR backfire from it looking worse for wear.

Peace child. We have sent you a free Xbox one in the mail. Delete your comment and you will never have to pay for gold ever again.

I seriously cant believe people are so biased against MS that they think MS would tell Respawn to delay the 360 release and then like about it.

You do realize that if that were the case a n employee would surely come out about it? Such news would be huge.

Quit being so emotional. Play your games and have fun.

You do realize it would be EA MS asks not respawn? Bluepoint is doing the port as well. Respawn has jack shit to do with the 360 version

An equivalent problem for #2 would be if the 360 version looks comparable resulting in even more backfire over the XBone version's visuals to say nothing of the console itself. I'm sure there is something going on behind the scenes that's holding it back, but Titanfall's visuals look like something that could have come out of last gen. I think the potential is definitely there for BluePoint to turn some heads. It seems like bit of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Perhaps it wasn't a good idea for Microsoft to money-hat a cross gen title as their first mega marketed "exclusive".

Both of Respawn's versions are going to launch on time, but the externally developed port is launching a week delayed.
Seems like the most likely scenario is that Bluepoint just fell behind schedule a bit...

It's 2 weeks late and it could possibly be due to development issues but that seems highly unlikely to me all things considered

this is a perfect post. well done.

Meh, I'm actually surprised it's launching this close to the actual version in the first place.

It must have been no small task to develop the port in parallel to the next gen version.
Impressive job, in my opinion.

Well 25th it is. I'm not dropping $500 just to play it 14 days early.

Come to think of it, I won't even get it for 360 now that its coming out after Second Son.

I'm surprised that it was originally to be released on the same day--though this is coming from an OS development background and not a game development background.

Wasn't there recently a story about the 360 version looking surprisingly great?

I don't think the delay is simply to push impatient people towards the XONE, it would only work on a tiny amount of customers. I bet MS is sick of negative technical comparisons and wants to delay the inevitable side-by-side 360 vs XONE articles.

Yup, was probably going to pick up the 360 version but now I'll be too busy with SS. If it's just that good I'll buy it in April or something

They'll still be made, especially if the 360 version ends up looking good. Now they can't compare the lesser version to make the One version to make it look good. Good luck with the PC comparisons

Just to manage expectations in here, the preview embargo from the event this week lifts on the 12th at 9am PT. Not the 10th.

Are those people who havent yet bought an xbone really gonna be driven to purchase one through titanfall marketing?

I really dont see the attraction unless you already own the console.

Depends what the marketing is going to be like. We do have a perfect storm approaching. Game press and Youtuber previews next week and then the beta, followed by a no doubt absolutely massive advertising campaign.

It's going to be a very interesting few weeks.

It'll definitely effect those on the fence (willing to purchase) for Titanfall but were probably trying to control themselves and purchase on Xbox360.

I also believe server load played a role here, both Xbox One and Xbox 360 maxing out XBL would be troublesome for a online only game. Smart move if this was deliberate, best Console experience on Xbox One and pushing all resources to make sure it's stable. With this being their first big "cloud" supported game

something ms and ea could have avoided by not letting this situation happen. People have negative reactions for a reason. MS gives off wrong vibes for people this year for a reason. .... its like saying oh you punched me three times and you put the gloves on and im supposed to think it wont happen again? .....

this is both the companies doing .... their pr departments are doing a horrible job so far

worst part is respawn is going to suffer for no reason ...

It's just two weeks not a big deal wit. Besides it is made by a completely different dev so I don't think it's far fetched they are a few weeks behind the more experienced and better infinity ward guys.

game release dates dont get normally pushed back by 1 two weeks. Either its too ambitions and its a couple of months delay or none at all ... and the port devs arent incompetent ... 2 weeks is a very strange number.
