SONY CES 2021 Conference | Release dates for Project Athia (January 2022), Ghostwire Tokyo & more

I pushed it back a hair only because March is MLB The Show month towards the end, and February is a hair too early for their heavy hitter with income taxes. But with that said, they seem to have no issue with any month they launch their games, really.
The Last of Us Part 2 was originally dated for February, and Horizon launched in February.

Old God of War games shipped in March, and God of War 2018 was originally dated internally for March then delayed last minute to April.

Who knows, I think everyone agrees its not gonna come out this fall.

It'll be interesting to see how they treat MLB now that it'll be multi-platform. And its sorta its own thing separate from most of Sony's exclusive releases.

Has ms got anything that's worth playing coming out 1st half of this year, seems like really bad planning. Xbox has been shit since late 360 days, i think they are beginning to realise they can't be the steam of console games. Lets hope they turn things around. We don't need a console monopoly.

not why I bought a ps5. I expect ratchet and clank to release around this time or I’m a bit disappointed. Am I missing something? Kena? Returnal? Disco Elysium? Are these really hard hitting games for people? I mean I hope they’re good but damn. Hitman’s lookin like the most interesting release to me for awhile
Returnal and Kena are on a lot of people's most anticipated lists

This is probably not the answer you’re looking for but I think
Cyberpunk, Doom Eternal and Control next gen upgrades
At least that’s all I’m waiting on right now.

April seems likely.

March is taken by Returnal and Kena. May is taken by Deathloop. April seems wide open and may also be a part of the "launch window" (6-month period since November).
Agreed. And recently, Sony has released a game in April almost every year.

April 2016 - Ratchet & Clank
April 2018 - Detroit Become Human God of War (my mistake)
April 2019 - Days Gone
April 2020 - Predator Hunting Grounds

Sony seem to like releasing their games from February through May. Obviously Ratchet will be in that window.

Yes, though one correction: April 2018 was God of War. DBH was released in May 2018.

I was very confident that R&C will be out in Feb 2021. But now it's not, and it kind of makes sense. It's a big franchise that requires a decent AAA budget (~5 years of development). Because it's a PS5 exclusive, it makes sense for Sony (financially) to delay the game until more PS5s are out in the market.

Oh right thanks lol my bad, I always think God of War was March and Detroit was next month after.

And I also think Sony are pushing some games back a bit while they try to get more PS5s out there.

What I'm reading from this is that GoW:R is gonna be a 2022 title still targeting the PS4.
You are reading what you want to be reading for a cheap shot or a laugh or both 🤷‍♂️.

"we believe in generations"

UDfbppb.gif

“Believe in generations” with several PS5 exclusives (that do take advantage/are designed around the PS5 HW) and some PS4 games that work on PS5 thanks to BC is not different from PS1 to PS2 transitions, PS2 to PS3, PSP to PSVita, PS3 to PS4 (well this required remasters, but TLoU came out pretty late for example)... and then we have the quote in context: https://www.gamesindustry.biz/artic...ing-that-can-only-be-enjoyed-on-playstation-5
"We have always felt that we had a responsibility to serve that [PS4] community for several years after the launch of PS5 and that it represented a huge business opportunity for us," Ryan says. "The numbers are quite straightforward. If you say in broad brush figures that we have a community of 100 million PS4 owners right now, and in the first couple of years... I don't know, somewhere between 15 and 25 million might migrate to PS5, that still leaves a huge number of people with PS4s. And that community is demonstrating an amazing stickiness, and willingness to stay engaged that, I think, the events of the past few months have just reinforced what we knew already.
"We have always said that we believe in generations. We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of those features.
"We do believe in generations, and whether it's the DualSense controller, whether it's the 3D audio, whether it's the multiple ways that the SSD can be used... we are thinking that it is time to give the PlayStation community something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5."

Those dates mean sweet fuck all, until we start to see more footage of the games (ie proof that they are actual done/close to done).

I don’t think so except multi platforms. I mean there’s the medium but who gives a fuck about that - honestly gamepass does keep me playing it far more than the ps5 tho currently just due to being able to try a bunch of shit I normally wouldn’t invest any money in. The Ps+ collection I’ve looked at just has a bunch of games I’ve already played and some games that just aren’t my taste. I hope kena and returnal are as good as people are thinking they are going to be - I’d like something new.

I have a feeling that it will not be 2021 game. At best November/December but probably next year. Same for Horizon which also don't have month set.
Come on now - not 2021? It’s a single player platformer that they were pretty confident could be ready for launch why push to 2022?

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
April/May for Ratchet & Clank makes sense as their bigger game for the first half of the year, with Horizon taking that slot around November. I could easily see that getting pushed to early 2022 though given that we've not even really seen any gameplay.

Once again you're mad if you think God of War is coming out this year, I don't have any experience with GT releases to put a prediction on that.

Rift Apart is obviously being pushed back, then. Kena looks good but not entirely sold on the minions concept yet.

For the rest its going to be a slow first few months for the PS5. Hitman 3 looks fun but not something I would desperately need a PS5 for. Thats why I kinda wanted Rift Apart earlier on, its a game that utilizes the PS5 hardware well.

The game was announced as coming out as part of the PlayStation 5 launch window, which means an April release at the latest. Even if it gets delayed, it would still definitely come out in 2021.

Project athia or whatever isnt coming out in 2022 and GoW is a late 2022 early 2023 title, leaning more to 23.

If they expect them to launch earlier then why no month in release date. That are only two games for this year without it.

Halo was announced as launch game. Cyberpunk was postponed multiple times and was released unfinished. How many other games were delayed? Especially now with covid everywhere.

You know the difference? That, unlike 343 and CDPR, Insomniac is one of the most efficient AAA studios in the industry. Have some faith, a new trailer with release date should be right around the corner.

I’m pretty sure they’re just announcing smaller games release dates

They weren't shown in the video, so they're not mentioned. Neither was FF16 and more.
I could understand FF16 not being shown but could potentially releasing this year (!?) probably because SE wants to do their own show, what stopping Sony from showing GoW though if it is ready?

My two cents....

I agree with the sentiment that GOW will
NOT launch this year. If those 2021 releases are true - plus other 3rd party, bigger ones too - Sony doesn’t need GOW to launch this year...the calendar is stacked for our first year if these all pan out as the slide suggests.

You lost me when you started believing bullshit like "3d audio" is what makes it next-gen. That's just nonsense.

Making the same unambitious games every generation is efficient indeed.

Ok, so you do not have a point and double down on being aggressive (it would be hilarious if you left any glowing reaction on Project Acoustics or expansions to Dolby Atmos in games ).

Accurate and immersive audio (checkout a normal 3D game and something on PSVR for example) is not bullshit and one of the several items PS5 exclusive games are expected to take advantage of without expensive peripherals (no need for PSVR to enjoy it on PS5). Not the only one.

Making the same unambitious games every generation is efficient indeed.
Low effort warring at this point.
